Bahama-Mama Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2010
Very, very nice change to regular pork chops - served up with white rice and corn niblets. Only change was to add diced red pepper, onion and minced garlic during simmer.

Orange and Maple Glazed Turkey

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
Everyone agrees that this was the best turkey they've ever had! Was given a 28 lb'er and although a little scary - using this recipe - essentially unchanged except for oven @ 350 F. - brought out a Turkey that was moist, flavorful and ever so good.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
GREAT pasta recipe. Only change was to use a little hot sauce instead of the pepper flakes. As well, I used dried parsley instead of fresh. Wonderful flavour - stick to bow-tie pasta- it somehow fits the sauce perfectly.

Good, hearty, healthy meal. Only thing lacking is flavor.

My Hoppin' John

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
This may have made the difference between a 3* and higher, but I was unable to get my hands on a ham bone. I followed the recipe exactly for the rest. It was hearty, filling, and great for a cold December night. It was suggested by my dinner mate that the addition of 'color' like red pepper and corn might increase the flavour. Recommended!

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
Minor changes based on earlier feedback. Added chopped garlic along with green onion. Added Worstershire along with beef broth. Cooked up canned, sliced mushrooms along with beef for 1hr. 1/3 C cream cheese & 1/3 C. sour cream added at the end. After browning the meat, removed it from the pan allowing the broth and disolved flour to soak up the pan juices - meat then returned for 1hr simmer.

Original Irish Cream

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
used Canadian whisky...Used blender to mix. At the end there was a cheese-like curd at the top. Thought the Carnation or cream had 'turned' but the "best before" on both was fine??? Had to pull it out leaving the drink lacking in creaminess. Also, following the recipe - it's extremely strong? Tried it a 2nd time - without using a high speed blender - that was the cause of the cream 'curd'. Used less whiskey - much better and closer to Bailey's - without the 'curd'.

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
We have what we call "Steamies" in Quebec all the time. This , however is MUCH better. I use Angus Beef franks and load it up with the condiments in the order stated - I bet it DOES affect the taste...

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
The sauce made this a 5*!! Minor changes based on others' feedback.... Only cooked it up in the oven 35 min (more than enough time). Sauteed fresh, sliced mushrooms in the skillet the chops came out of and added them to the sauce. Did the (doubled) sauce in a sauce pan on the stove and served it up at the table. Deeeelicious!!

Chili Rubbed Pork Tenderloin With Apricot Ginger Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Only changes were in using real ginger and less of the hot stuff. I couldn't do the Tenderloins on the grill cause it was 0 degrees outside. Sauced them and did them in a pan in the oven at 425 F for 10 min, then flipped em' and added more of the sauce. Made the mistake of just using the olive oil spray - should have used foil on the pan - the sauce that slipped off the tenderloins really burned to the pan. Had to cook a little longer to get them medium (another 5-8 min).

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Followed the recipe to a 'T' with the exception of using less Portobello mushroom, (about 1/4 less). A little labor-intensive with the adding of the broth (in 1/4 C. increments) to the rice but in the end well worth it. It was absolutely fabulous - thick and tasty!.

Double Decker Tacos

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
Probably the best Taco I've ever had...My son & I always differed on the choice of hard Tacos (him), vs soft Tacos (me) - this recipe takes care of both. Couldn't find a ripe fruit for the guacamole so I cut it into tiny pieces & mixed with sour cream and lime juice. Very, very tasty and without the mess!

Cheater Pot Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
Followed recipe with the exception, (based on others' input) of broiling chicken breasts for 8-10 min each side - then cubing. As well, I used low fat cream of celery soup along with low fat cream of chicken. Finally, I placed the flaky biscuits on the bottom as well as the top of the pie.

Didn't change anything in the recipe. Marinated for 48 hrs in the fridge. Was very good. Even better tasting as leftovers the next day.
