Maple Dill Carrots

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
Very good with the eception that the butter/brown sugar coating didn't coat very well. Might try with a thickening agent next time.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
Replaced ground beef with ground pork. The flavour of this dish was wonderful. Only hassle was in using Romaine lettuce (only one I could find other than Iceburg)- very difficult keeping the sauce mixture in the lettuce and not on the plate. Kind of labour-intensive given the results.

Stir-Fry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
Very, very nice salad! Followed recipe with exception that I threw in some sliced fresh shrooms, and julliened red pepper along with the green pepper. Noted that recipe called for addition of vinegar along with soy sauce but it's not in the ingredients list. Regardless, I just dribbled a bit into the sauce. Worried about cooking up rice or noodles until I realized that it would be served on a bed of raw spinach - EXCELLENT combination - no need for rice/noodles. Very nice surprise.

Best Mac & Cheese I've done off of this site. Came out less dry than other attempts. Tasty. I liked it!

Red River Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2010
Gave it a 3* mostly because the sirloin (cooked this method/time) turned out to be tougher than it could have been, (cooked as a steak). Otherwise, the rest of the recipe was a 4* , (didn't change it at all). Don't know how the toughness issue could be tackled, (less browning and more simmering?).

Asian Chicken Noodle Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
Wow!!!! what flavour with that dressing!!! Didn't change recipe except to add a little sesame oil to the dressing. First time I've used Bok Choy - interesting veggie... I think substituting bagged coleslaw is a disservice to this recipe.

Dad's Steak Rub

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2010
Very nice rub...No change made to recipe. Only thing, I didn't have access to a BBQ (-15C), so I used the oven. Came out perfectly - tender, med-rare. Heat oven to 350F. On stove, a cast iron frying pan heated on high. Steaks seared both sides for 1.5-2 min, (each side). Then pan and all into the oven for aprox 5 min.

Pork Chalupas

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2010
With the spices added, I thought that this would have much more flavour than it did. It was perfectly tender after sitting all day but the lack of flavour blew it for me. Would double the amount of spices next time. Update: had frozen the pulled pork. Pulled it out, defrosted it. Rolled it up in soft tortillas, poured salsa, shredded cheese on each. Popped into the oven at 350 F for 15 min or so. Served with sour cream, chopped up tomatos, more salsa - it was better than the first time!!!!

Red Skinned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2010
Only change - scallions (green onions) instead of onion & prepared nite before to get flavours well mixed. Brought it to a poker party - several compliments on a fantastic potato salad including from a self-professed Gourmet who said it was the best he'd ever eaten - and he meant it.

BBQ Chicken Pizza II

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2010
Girlfriend gave it a 6+* out of 5*. Only change was to use a rotisserie chicken chopped up from the grocery store, added sliced fresh shrooms. & broiled the pizza a few min to 'brown' the cheese. What an incredible pizza!!!!! 2nd time - only change was to use individua smalll pitas to make personal pizzas.

Chicken Florentine Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2010
EXCELLENT!!! Followed a Reviewer's suggestions in how to cook the chicken and it came out absolutely perfect! Made the sauce as per the recipe but I sauteed the (fresh) spinach and sliced mushrooms in a little butter. Placed them in a greased dish. Placed the uncooked breasts on top. Added the sauce, topped it off with the bacon bits - baked for 25 min at 350F. Removed from the oven, topped with shredded cheese and returned for 10 min at the same 350F. Moist, FLAVOURFUL, - could serve it up at a formal dinner and be very proud of the results.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
Do NOT like fish! - but know how healthy they are for me & my family. This recipe makes the best of fish as I found the sauce to be full of wonderful flavour! The fish was perfectly cooked and the taste made it well worth while! Would easily do it again - even though I DON'T like fish....did I say that??

Chili Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
Didn't have the luxury of a Grill as it was -10C outside. Used the oven method (350F - 40 min with tin foil. 30 min with foil off (basting every 10 min). Used boneless thighs and drumsticks - think I prefer the boneless thighs. As well, only marinated for 30 min as people were hungry for their supper. Very tasty - would definitely make it again.

Tex-Mex Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
Decided to do it all in the Crock Pot on low all day. Overall, it was good but somehow I still found it lacking a bit in flavour. I wonder if doing it the way the recipe states would have been more flavourful - I'll try it one day.

Orange and Maple Glazed Turkey

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
Everyone agrees that this was the best turkey they've ever had! Was given a 28 lb'er and although a little scary - using this recipe - essentially unchanged except for oven @ 350 F. - brought out a Turkey that was moist, flavorful and ever so good.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
GREAT pasta recipe. Only change was to use a little hot sauce instead of the pepper flakes. As well, I used dried parsley instead of fresh. Wonderful flavour - stick to bow-tie pasta- it somehow fits the sauce perfectly.

My Hoppin' John

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
This may have made the difference between a 3* and higher, but I was unable to get my hands on a ham bone. I followed the recipe exactly for the rest. It was hearty, filling, and great for a cold December night. It was suggested by my dinner mate that the addition of 'color' like red pepper and corn might increase the flavour. Recommended!

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
Minor changes based on earlier feedback. Added chopped garlic along with green onion. Added Worstershire along with beef broth. Cooked up canned, sliced mushrooms along with beef for 1hr. 1/3 C cream cheese & 1/3 C. sour cream added at the end. After browning the meat, removed it from the pan allowing the broth and disolved flour to soak up the pan juices - meat then returned for 1hr simmer.
