About this Cook
My Mom started me cooking as a young boy...maybe she thought I would be a bachler?? who knows...glad she did.
My favorite things to cook
I am a pepper head. I love the heat. I do cook everything though. I go on binges...sometimes I bake and bake...from cookies to cheesecakes.... I do all of the home cooking and cleanup... I do experiment well beyond the steriotype meat and potato "male" cooker. I love to use home-grown spices for flavor and decor. Mexican food, Polish food, German, Italian, American....I try it all ..sometimes I get the thumbs down, but for the most part its up.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving with all of the bells and whistles. LOVE IT! and that is stuffing in the bird and out.
My cooking triumphs
cheesecakes...all flavors..created my own recipes from the flops of printed ones...sorta took all the good ideas and got rid of the bad....make a pretty mean cheescake now! My pie crusts are almost as good as my wifes and Mom's...that is saying something!
My cooking tragedies
If I have'nt ruined everything at least once I was'nt trying hard enough. I don't follow directions well, or perhaps I don't measure well...I can eat about anything..pitty the wife and kids though.

Mom's Pie Crust
I made the recipe as listed minus some water. I did not use a mixer, but the manual blending and cutting of the flour. It is easy to make.....very flaky and buttery in texture. I put it on some chicken pot pies I had made and they turned out excellent. Will use again.

Marinated Flank Steak
I had not cooked a flank steak for years...and this spawned my desire to do it again. I followed the recipe pretty close (adding liquid smoke to the marinade from habit). I also always use a foil pouch with dampened hickory chips to enhance the smoked flavor on the grill. I use a similar marinade for cooking deer or other game..the red wine vinegar acts as a tenderizer along with the lemon juice and removes most of the 'game' taste from meat. I like to use a vacuum seal bag to force the mixture into all of the meat if only in the marinade for several hours. Anyway the recipe is great. Leftovers made for many delicious lunch combos that week.

Snickerdoodles I
Had never had snickerdoodles before..must be my sheltered boring life . Anyway someone brought some into work one day...not bad, but store bought. I made some that night followed this recipe (added a tsp. more cinnamon to dry ingredients and used butter flavored shortening). They were outstanding. Will definitely make again as they do not last long around the house. Thanks for this KEEPER recipe.
