Sugar Cream Pie I

Ease of prep but you do have to watch closely in both stages---the thickening and the broiling. Tasted some of the filling and it tasted really good. Will update as it is cooling in fridge now. (:Update: I have to give a very, very, VERY good!!!! Really enjoyed, so good once it set up and was chilled in the frig. I think the hardest part was waiting for it to be chilled enough to eat. But one of those recipes that is to die for!

Damson Plum Cardamom Jam

I am trying this today with homegrown plums a friend gave us. Hope it works! Will try to update later. Update: Very good! I like that this recipe didn't use fruit pectin. I didn't have the cardamon pods so I used lemon rind and dried mint, which turned out to have a very nice flavor. I know, I know, I changed a major ingred. in the recipe...but it turned really nice! Thanks for submitting!

These were very sweet. I am undecided if I liked them or not. Also,they are a very delicate cookie and fall apart easily. I prefer a heartier cookie but thanks for letting me try something different.

French Breakfast Muffins

My boys loved these this morning! I have been meaning to make them for a few weeks, I don't know why I waited! They were excellent warm with a pat of butter. I tried them both ways---with and w/o the cinn./sugar topping and they were a bit bland w/o the topping but soooo good with! I think the topping makes them exceptional. Beautiful presentation, too, they rose really high. I did add more milk to the mix as it seemed dry and I also subbed the nutmeg for half tsp. vanilla as one reviewer suggested.

Raspberry Streusel Muffins

Made this several days ago to use up some raspberries. It was good but I think I didn't like them as much for the raspberries...personal like/dislike...blueberries are much better in muffins! (: Didn't make the streusel part. My boys wouldn't even try them so I couldn't get a second opinion.

Cabbage Beef Soup

I thought this soup was excellent! I love soup, though, and I occasionally like cabbage if it is spiced well (and I got it on sale---its a very cheap and filling food!). My family was not so pleased---it smelled up the house, LOL. So I am the sole reviewer here as no one else would even try it. I am giving it 4 stars not because of the smell (cabbage is a stinky vegetable, no one's fault there) but because of the sodium. I only put two beef cubes in and only 1 tsp of salt. I did add a couple of dashes of hot sauce for flavor. I also a used a jar of pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce because that is what I had on hand and I added more water.

Grilled Salmon I

This was 'ok', I want to try it again as I don't think the salmon we used was the best quality. Used Wild Caught Chum Salmon I got on sale. It was the first time grilling a plank of salmon like this so I will try again at some point. It was tasty but after awhile the after-taste got to you.

Fried Broccoli

This was basically a stir-fry method with olive oil instead of wok oil. But it was really good! Next time, I will play with the amount of red pepper spice as it was a tad too spicy for me. I also added chicken and baby carrots to the mix to take up some of the spice, so I really ended up with a stir-fry type meal! Will def. make again. My husband even liked it. Used fresh broccoli. Thanks!

Red River Beef Stroganoff

Made this for lunch today, thanks, it was very good. Cut the amount of butter way down (I think I ended up using 2 tsp. since I was using a fatty piece of meat). Also, only had about a lb. of meat. Didn't add the onions as I don't care for them.

Lemon Thyme Rice

Made this a couple of days ago to compliment baked fish. It was very good, thanks! I will make again. My SIL gave me some fresh thyme and I used that instead of the dried. Ease of preparation, had all the ingredients on hand. Might have needed a little salt included in the prep. Thanks for the recipe!

Cheesy Catfish Chowder

I didn't really like this. I guess I just don't like fish in soup, personal preference. Also, the milk I used separated and it sort of looked like gruel. I had some catfish to use up and didn't want to make fried catfish, but thanks for letting me try something different.

Sour Cream Blueberry Muffins

THese were sooooo good! I subbed buttermilk in place of the sour cream, and I halved the recipe just to try it...but I think they would be just as good w/ the sour cream. Excellent, my new blueberry muffin recipe!

Polish Egg Bread

I have been wanting to try this recipe for several years. Theother day someone gave us a dozen farm fresh eggs and I needed to use them. I gave it 4 stars because 1. the directions don't say when to add the sugar (I did in the first step when prepping the yeast) and 2. It is a LARGE recipe, and when I say large, I mean industrial sized. I halved the recipe and thought the dough was taking over. But it made a very nice and tasty bread. My advice would be to halve the recipe and to it in two stages as I did. I am giving away as Christmas gifts and I kept a loaf for myself...beautiful presentation (I braided the bread as suggested in the recipe) and tastes great.

Crusty Potato Bread

Very nice bread! Made by hand, shaped into two smaller loaves and baked on a baking stone at 350 for about 20 min., then I bumped temp up to 375 and baked for another 8-10 min. I think it was. Used for sandwiches today and it was perfect! Thanks!

Tarragon-Dill Grilled Chicken Salad

Made this to use up some grapes. Didn't make the dressing, use mayo instead and grilled chicken leftovers. Very good---loved the combo of apples, grapes, dill, and tarragon w/ the chicken, a winner for sure! Thanks!
