Spinach Lasagna III

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
UPDATE: During Lent 2011, I made this recipe for my boyfriend's Catholic family for dinner on a Friday, and while they were making fun of me for my "hippie lasagna" they liked it. I went to grab leftovers out of the fridge for lunch the next day, and they had already been consumed by people who made fun of me and my hippie lasagna. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This was amazing! My roommate is a vegetarian, so we decided to try this one night. I wasn't keen on the idea because I'd tried many terrible meatless lasagnas in the past. But, one bite and I was hooked. You barely even notice that it's lacking a meat flavor. I did make some changes...I used light cheese and had to use cooked frozen spinach because fresh was banned at the time. We used Prego sauce. I also forgot to add the egg. We had a lot of filling left, probably because we like thin layers. I'd recommend this recipe...even to people who love meaty lasagna!

Meaty Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
The beef flavor was overwhelming. My friends and roommates though it was good, but next time I'll omit the beef bouillon and broth and use Italian sauasge instead of regular american pork sausage. Then we're all sure it will be amazing!

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
This was a really good pizza dough recipe that can be made quickly. However, I had some problems cooking it, next time I'll probably put it in the oven to bake for 5 minutes before I put the toppings on. I'll definitely use this recipe again.

Easy Pizza Sauce I

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
I felt this sauce had too much flavor, I didn't realize that was possible. I would've given it 2 stars, but my friend liked it. I think I'll use this recipe again as a base for making a sauce that better suits my tastebuds.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
This rub was great! I made it for a holiday dinner and my best friend's husband is a very picky eater, but he liked this roast so much he asked me to make it for his birthday!

Chicken Gruyere with Sauteed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
This smelled terrible while it cooked, but tasted better than it smelled. I used Chukar (partridge) instead of chicken, but other than that I followed the recipe. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't gross. It's also very rich, so people don't eat much of it. I suggest pairing it with a side dish that's light. Probably won't make this again.

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
I made this recipe without alterations and the filling turned out a bit runny so it didn't really maintain shape. However, they tasted delicious! Hopefully, they'll turn out better next time I try to make them.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
Love this! My mom requests this whenever I go home to visit and my guy friends love it! Best of all, you can control how hot it is by using mild, medium, or hot taco sauce. I use 3 tortillas for each layer. It's never been runny, but I drain some of the liquid from the chiles and tomatoes. Also, you might want to gradually add the taco sauce if you're worried about it being runny. I serve this with lettuce, sour cream and cold beer. Delicious!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
Didn't like these at all. The sugar taste is overwhleming. The frosting was okay, but had a funny aftertaste. I may try them again to see if they turn out better, since these are so highly rated. But, as of now, I wouldn't recommend this recipe.

Brown Rice and Black Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
I thought this was just okay, but my brother thought it was great so I gave it 4 stars instead of three. I made more rice to serve on the side. Left out the carrots. Used a mexican blend cheese instead of swiss. My brother added hot sauce as a condiment. This would make a good dinner for a family because it's very filling.

Strawberry Colada

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
Made these today with strawberries I picked yesterday. Had to add more strawberries than the recipe called for. Overall, it was a good "girlie drink."

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
These were good. I used half the salt and let it marinade for an hour. I grilled them and the chicken was a little dry, but it had good flavor and was tender. This recipe is a keeper.

Four Cheese Macaroni

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
Perhaps my expectations were too high, but this was not very good. I thought it'd be great since it had a high-rating and good reviews. It wasn't very creamy and the texture was questionable. I won't use this recipe again.

Fast and Friendly Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2007
This is a good recipe to make with children. I made them with a 3-year-old and we just used our hands to mix the ingredients. I added some oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary and parmesan cheese. These were quick to make and everybody liked them.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I'm not very skilled when it comes to baked goods, I have egg issues, but these were amazing! Nobody could believe that I made them! I have a wood stove and placed the dough near it to rise. I baked them at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Also, I didn't make the icing because I don't like icing on cinnamon rolls. I highly recommend this recipe!

Mexican Pizza

This was okay. A nice change from veggie pizza. I omitted the meat because I didn't have any. Will probably make again for a summer picnic or family gathering.

Beef Barley Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I used a cheap, really cheap, cabernet sauvignon wine and it made the stew too bitter, but still edible. I'll make this again with a better wine and I'm sure it will be fabulous!

Delicious Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
This bread is so good! I made it to go with the Beef and Barley Stew recipe from this website. I set it next to the wood stove to let it rise. Turned out wonderful, with just enough flavor. Instead of Italian seasoning, I used about a teaspoon of thyme, but kept the rosemary amount the same. Also, I melted the butter instead of using soft butter, it mixes better. I will definitely make this again!

Cheeseburger Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
Instead of rolling this, I mixed everything together and put it in a bread pan. I used velveeta, which I diced into very small pieces, for half of the cheese. The 3-year-old who helped me make it said it was "the best meatloaf in town" and my 50-year-old mom liked it, but I prefer regular meatloaf. Will probably make again, though.

My Kid's Favorite Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
UPDATE: I've tried this recipe a few more times since my first review and I found a combo that makes this great! I use Sam Adams Cherry Wheat beer & Bulls-Eye Brown Sugar & Hickory bbq sauce. Even people who aren't big fans of pork liked them! I also turn the heat up a bit at the end of cooking and take the lid off so the sauce thickens and can be used to serve over the chops. ORIGINAL REVIEW 3/11/08: I didn't have high expectations for this dish because of the variance in taste depending on beer and sauce used, but it turned out well! I used Killian's and Open Pit Sweet BBQ sauce (which I'd never had before) and the meat was tender and flavorful. My only problem was the sauce was more like a broth because it barely thickened. I will make this again.
