Jules' Braised Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2012
I used far more bacon, but only because I started cooking without the recipe in front of me. I would not call that a mistake because it turned out delicious. Also, I did not use olive oil as I had plenty of fat to use with the rendering of the bacon. Beautiful balance of sweetness with the vinegar, but for my taste I might increase the vinegar-to-sugar ratio next time. All in all, a terrific variation on a delicious greens recipe. Next time, I will give it a go with collards! Thanks, Jules!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
Very, very good. I must admit to two errors: I left the house and thought I'd have time to stop back & turn it down to low. I didn't, so it cooked on High for about 7 hours. It was still moist and delicious. The meat was fall apart tender. The flavor was excellent. I think the wine and the butter are key.

Meat-Lover's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2010
What a great way to get the deep, rich flavor of all day sauce. For those of us who work and don't have all day to stand over the stove, this is a big win! Thanks, Ashley!

Bourbon Slush

Reviewed: May 3, 2010
HUGE HIT! And I came up with a way to solve the "too sweet for me/not sweet enough" dilemma, since I think that is something that comes up with most any cocktail from margaritas to highballs: in addition to offering with 7Up type beverage, I also had Club Soda next to it. Those who tend to like a less sweet drink (like me) used the soda to cut the sweetness without changing the flavor of the drink. Those who like a more "girly" sweet drink could add the 7Up in an amount pleasing to them. We entertain a great deal and this was the first pre-made drink that we've ever used that really did please everyone. One last tip: while we did use a "well" type bourbon to make the mix, we also had some "Top Shelf" Bourbon there if anyone wanted to go a little stronger. It was delicious as a small float on top of the frozen slush and really made it work beautifully. So no changes here to the actual recipe, but we did give guests the ability to customize it to their taste. 5 STARS FOR SURE!! (and I don't give 5 too often!) Happy Partying!

Tree-Shaped Crescent Veggie Appetizers

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
A hit on my holiday buffet! A great appetizer that is both visually terrific and yummy for everyone. It's easy to pick off anything you don't like (16 grandkids at my Christmas celebration) and comes together quickly. A tip: use pre-cut veggies from the supermarket salad bar to save money (buy only as much as you need!) and speed prep! Thanks for a great idea!

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
This was the best-reviewed cookout recipe I've ever made. The flavor is assertive, but not crazy-overpowering. I consider 30 minutes to be the MINIMUM time to marinate; going longer was a good thing to do.

Microwave Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: May 15, 2008
Amazing! While I was making it, the crowd in the kitchen said things like "I'm terrified of what you're doing to that popcorn!" They thought it would overcook due to being returned to the microwave . . . their concerns turned to cheers! Seriously: SO good, SO easy . . . and simple cleanup! I made this with 1 pan and 1 spatula. I added some toasted pecans, just 'cause I had them and they were a great addition. Paper bag worked great, not a single negative about this one! Great post!

Souvlaki

Reviewed: May 5, 2008
These were delicious. The fragrance was wonderful from the start. My guests were late arriving, so I marinated a little longer than the 2-3 hours recommended, and think that was a plus. The only suggestion I have is to remind users that salt will help this dish quite a lot: it makes the lemon just jump out and provide such a nice harmony to the oregano. Thanks, JANICER8 for such a simple, beautiful recipe!

San Antonio Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2008
Absolutely delicious! I used romaine so the slightly-tougher leaves stayed crisp up against the heat of the meat. Very easy to tailor to what you have on hand and get great results either way. Thanks for a terrific recipe. Also, I liked that this didn't use a "taco seasoning mix", making it simpler to keep the sodium content from being crazy.

My husband and child liked this, but I found it just a little too bland, even when I was looking for a "comfort" food.

Made it just as written. It wasn't the most amazing thing I've ever had, but it was easy and seems like a good recipe that's worth trying again.

Made exactly as written with perfect results! The "Bar" idea makes these even quicker than typical no-bakes and in my opinion, they taste identical! Thanks for the recipe!
