About this Cook
I'm 37, separated, and the mother of one 14yo. I homeschool my son and go to college myself. I'm poly and an activist in the queer community. I love my weekly yoga, step, cardio kickboxing, and belly dance classes. I'm the type of geek who still plays DnD and hosts a monthly spec-fic book group. I'm an unapologetic fat grrl with a shoe habit.
My favorite things to cook
Lately, a lot of Indian and Middle Eastern spices have been included in my cooking. I've found that a liberal amount of sweet curry powder will entice just about anyone into eating cooked cauliflower--even me! I sometimes braid a loaf of Challah...just so I can make French toast the next day *yum*
My favorite family cooking traditions
Camp cooking, over a fire, offers a level of challenge that I welcome. My son has always loved to cook and sometimes runs around in the kitchen with me.
My cooking triumphs
Bacon Salad. No, I didn't name it that--my friends did. It's a potato salad made with smoky bacon, green onions, roasted reds, mayo, and cajun spices. Cornbread stuffing. Cajun Alfredo. Lemon icing. Pulled pork. Fried chicken. Tofu lasagna. Clam chowder.Garlic vegetable soup. Cheesecake.
My cooking tragedies
Numerous stir-fry attempts. Pie crust. Biscuits. Okra. Naan. Pasta.

Stacey's Hamburger Seasoning
I rarely eat burgers but acquired some humane, grass-fed beef at a farmer's market a couple of days ago. Organic, non-lot beef is less fatty so can be less flavorful than the majority of the mass-produced beef out there. The addition of Stacey's seasoning, plus a bit of steak sauce, yielded the BEST burger in memory. My partner said so (with a mouth full of delicious beef) and I immediately agreed. Our 17mo is often suspicious of new foods so we fed him earlier and I offered him a bite of my burger - he ate 5 bites! Thank you, Stacey. We will be using this spice mix in the future :-)

Six Can Chicken Tortilla Soup
This is a good base recipe. Like others have said, it's a bit bland so I add a pack of taco seasoning. For meat, I use ground or shredded chicken/turkey...or even ground beef (the latter with beef broth). This soup - and its variations - is a favorite in my household. Some peeps add shredded cheese and/or sour cream, but it's tasty even without.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Delicious! We doubled the cinnamon, but followed Beth's recipe otherwise. This cookie was an instant favorite :-)
