Streusel Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
This was a dense cake. I kinda figured with all the flour. Not sweet enough and you really should double the streusel. Not nearly enough. I added milk to help thin it out, but I guess not enough. I like when I find a good recipe and have to make modifications for my own preference. This one needs modifications just to good. Didn't care for this and I know I won't be making this again.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
It was of biscuit consistency, but it lacked a lot of flavor for me. Not what I was looking for. No one gave these a thumbs up. I have made better. I will continue with my search in hopes of finding the perfect biscuit.

The Best Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
This was okay to me but my DH who doesn't like meatloaf loved this one. He even had it for breakfast the next day. Kids were half & half on it also. Would make again if DH requests it, but didn't like it enough personally to add it to my collection.

I am so peed off about this recipe that I am going to leave it at that.

Chicken Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
I served these for a Mexican themed potluck I was having and everyone loved them. I on the other hand felt it was missing something. I did however use cream of chicken instead of mushroom as others suggested. But it was well received by by guests so it did the trick.

Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2008
The smell of beer threw me off but it was pretty good. I thought it was a bit spicy until I found out it had been spiked with lots of cayenne pepper behind my back. Thanks DH for the surprise.:) Overall I liked but would use maybe a little less beer. I added rice to thicken it up which made a perfect consistency. Thanks and will try again when hubby isn't home to assist.

Praline Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
Whomever posted this must have missed something, because this doesn't even come close to a praline sauce. I don't mind experimenting, but I want my money back on this one. Don't bother wasting your time, which isn't much or money, which you can't get back on this. 5 minutes of my life I can't get back. This doesn't come close. I was skeptical to even taste this but went ahead and then proceeded to throw this out. A Taste of Home Disaster

Praline Sundae Topping

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
Letting this cool for 5 minutes before adding milk is a mistake in my opinion. It got kinda stiff for me and when adding the milk later it turns into a soupy mess meaning you have to add more marshmallows. I thought hey I can do this, maybe others just did something wrong. Nah. To be such a simple recipe, it doesn't come together correctly. I have never rated anything low as fare as preparing anything goes but I have to rate it a 1. But the taste is alright, I expected more from the reviews which is why I chose to try this. So I give it a 2 for taste. Not as rich as I was hoping for. Just not what I was looking for so I will look for a different recipe that meets my expectations.

Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2008
I have to agree with Caroline C. I use this method every year for Caramel Apples on Halloween. The kids love it and I nor have they ever gotten sick from this. I grew up with my mother doing the same thing and I am still living.

Peach Pie the Old Fashioned Two Crust Way

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2008
I have made this pie twice now. Once with canned peaches and the other with fresh. I preferred the canned peach version over fresh. Same with the kids. They don't like peach cobbler but gobbled this pie up. So from here on out, I will use the canned peaches and add vanilla with a little more sugar. The sugar and vanilla thing is just my personal preference, as I like things sweet and love the vanilla flavoring.

Jewish Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2008
I skipped the powdered sugar and did the brown sugar/ cinnamon mix because that's what I know. Didn't use any nuts because I didn't have any. My daughter did the mixing and when I checked it seemed a bit to thick in consistency to me so I added extra vanilla and some milk until I thought it was okay. Other than that, it came out fine. I have had better but I will try again.

Jamaican Jerked Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
It smelled great when I mixed everything together and I even let it marinate. I am only giving 2 stars because I did the prep and hubby put it on the grill. Maybe there was a mistake there, but I highly doubt it because he is an expert on the grill in my opinion. He is always asked to grill at functions.

Texas Pork Ribs

Didn't change a thing. Came out wonderful and will for sure be making these again. Very tender. Can't rate the sauce because we never use any. Good BBQ never needs sauce.

Absolute Best Liver and Onions

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2008
I didn't find anything special about this recipe. I did think the milk gave it a slightly different flavor but not by much. I'll stick to my regular method though. I like the flavor of liver just fine.

Scrambled Eggs Done Right

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2008
3 stars because they were light and fluffy but lacked flavor for me. My 4 year old who loves eggs in any form walked away from these. Didn't finish them and wasn't interested in more.

Strawberry Spinach Salad II

Reviewed: May 20, 2008
My kids and hubby made this salad at my request for mothers day and I did like the spinach and dressing. I think a substitute for the strawberries are maybe sometimes called for. I will try with mandarin oranges next time as another review suggested. But the dressing was a big hit with me. I say sub on the strawberries because I like mine sweet and sometimes with those it's hit or miss. But good salad overall.

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: May 20, 2008
I did not find this particular sauce to be that great. I would only try again if adding additional flavors. I didn't get any complaints from the kids so maybe it is just personal taste. It was not terrible though.
