Fry Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2011
I really can't compare this to authentic fry bread (as I'm sure there are different home bases varieties), however, it seemed much like hard tack. I think you have to be really careful not to overknead, I would guess. Hmmmm. Not quite convinced about this recipe.

Original Chex® Party Mix

I put this in my warming drawer in my stove for 1 hour on medium. It infuses the flavor much better than the microwave.

Cheater Pancake Syrup

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2010
I have trouble digesting corn syrup, and I wanted to try this out. I used only brown sugar and vanilla extract only. As I cooled it and bottled it, I put it in a Mom's Syrup used pancake syrup bottle. The kids of course had to try it, and wouldn't go back to the other regular syrup! I gave it 4 stars as I think you don't need the maple flavor, but who knows - I'm thrifty...

Buttermilk Pralines

Good, but very sweet like a pecan pie! Needs strong coffee, tea, or lots of milk when eating, whew!

Firefighter's Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie

I would cut down the baking soda a tich as it has that excessive soda flavor. Otherwise a good cookie.

Spicy Shrimp and Grits

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2010
I used less broth as advised in other reviews, used butter, and 1/2 can chiles as I didn't have the tomato mix as stated (I used petite diced toms instead). This was even better on the second day for breakfast with toast. A good way to use the cheaper smaller shrimp always on sale.

Meatball Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2010
I made this with the addition of V-8 instead of condensed tomato soup and a carton of beef stock instead of beef granules. Everyone liked it. I brought it into work and a co-worker wanted the recipe! I had to explain my penchant for using V-8 (I think it boosts the flavor for soups and meatloaf). Try it this way! The gravy is a must for the thickner...I used powdered. Oh, and by the way - I added no salt other than what was in the ingredients, which turned out on the light side of saltiness, which was perfect.

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2009
For all the reviews, I thought this would be ambrosia, but only 1 out of 4 thought it was good and that was the "carb kid." The rest of us thought it was a strange mix of flavors, not quite melding: a bit "sour," sweet and bland. It was easy to make and I followed the recipe to the tee. I don't even think it would have been improved with dried fruit.

Torsk

This was OK. The kids ate it, but for the amount of sugar it would be better for you and better tasting to use Mrs. Dash....

Texas Lizzies

This was disgusting. A waste of expensive ingredients. I followed it to a tee and really wanted it to work because it sounded good and I actually like these flavors. But they were akward and seemed to need more of a foundation for all the "heavy" ingredients.

Pina Colada Cake III

The cake was OK. It had a good smell, but the coconut flavor seemed flat. There are much better cake recipes out there.

Harira

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2008
As good as this smelled, it was bland! I added extra salt at the beginning as suggested in other reviews, but it still tasted like it needed salt (or something). The only change I made was ground lamb. I was excited to try something different and its palletable, tasted healthy, *but* for all of the trouble it was, wouldn't make it again. I really don't know what would fix it 'cause adding anything else probably wouldn't be authentic.
