Spinach Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
Ugh. I like Indian food in general and I like all the ingredients in this recipe individually, so I had high hopes for this. Visually, it was unappealing to look at on the plate and the texture of it was also unappealling. The taste was just sort of bland and unexciting, even using extra curry. I hate wasting food, but I just could not eat this.

Peanut Butter Noodles

Reviewed: May 3, 2007
I used Jif extra crunchy peanut butter, which made the noodles turn out slightly... glutenous, which definitely lowered the appeal. I think the recipe has potential though and want to try it again with some organic peanut butter from Whole Foods.

Yum! This was a huge hit when I made it for Xmas and it is likely to bewcome a standard for holiday meals.

Alison's Slow Cooker Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2007
I swapped out the water/boullion for 2 cups of beef broth and used fresh corn & green beans rather than frozen veggies, but I have to say I was really disappointed. After cooking on high for 4 hours (per one of the reviews about getting the potatoes done) I tasted this and the best word I can come up with is: BLAND! After adding a cup of red wine, 2 heaping tablespoons of minced garlic, 2 heaping tablespoons of basil, 3-4 bay leaves and a packet of lipton's dry vegetable soup mix and letting it cook another 3-4 hours it still lacked zing to me.

Busy Day Chicken Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2007
I doubled the soup and rice and water (I used chicken broth instead) in the recipe to stretch it into a second meal and had some problems with the rice being crunchy. Not sure if it was my quantity changes or the recipe itself. Over all it was tasty but not out of this world.

Chicken Stuffed with Spinach and Sweet Peppers

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2007
I had a hard time getting the cut for the pocket deep enough... so all my filling oozed out and baked onto the dish. Over all it was tasty, but not tasty enough for all the hassle involved. Doubt I'd make it again.

Grilled Jamaican Jerked Pork Loin Chops

Pleasant, but not really the taste I was expecting from a Jamaican jerk marinade.

Grilled Peanut Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2006
Tasty, but very thick sauce. I used Jif Extra Crunchy peanut butter because it was what I had on hand the first time I made this & I don't suggest using it to anyone else. I also made it on a George Foreman non-stick grill & it stuck thoroughly. Definitely spray with cooking spray if you're trying it on a George Foreman grill!

Great Garlic Beer Steaks

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2006
After all the rave reviews, I was disappointed in the end result of this recipe. I let it marinate in the fridge about 8 hours and the steaks were definitely lacking in something.

Black Bean Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2006
Its a good starting point for a salsa, and has a great texture to it, but I wasn't impressed with the flavor of the recipe as listed. I tried lime juice, cumin, chili powder, cayenne, garlic.. you name it.. every flavor I added seemed to disappear. My next attempt may be to roast the tomatoes and perhaps some chipotle peppers & try that...

Michelle's Coconut Chicken Curry

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2006
Added carrots & red peppers with the cauliflower for colour, 1/3 cup brown sugar & 1 tbsp lime as suggested and doubled the curry power since we're curry fanatics. It was amazingly creamy and as good as what we've ordered in restaurants before, but very mild even with double our brand of curry powder. If you want kick, I'd definitely take the suggestions of adding cayenne or something.

This was wonderful and so easy to make. The only problem I had was getting it to brown under my broiler. Definitely something to make again!

I was completely unimpressed with this recipe. I didn't care for the texture and the taste was bland. It was edible but not something I'd make again.

Pumpernickel Spinach Dip I

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2006
wow just wow. every time I've made it people rave about it! I usually use dry veggie soup mix rather than dill since its easier & cheaper to find. I've made it with both frozen thawed (and well drained) spinach and fresh... fresh is 1000x better.

Fruit Dip VI

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2006
Sheer bliss! Two notes though: "blend" means with a mixer. Even after leaving the cream cheese sit out to soften for several hours, it was still too thick to mix by hand. One minute with my electric mixer on low and it was blended to perfection and just the right consistancy for a dip. And it turns out brown sugar coloured (which shouldn't have been a surprise with the ingredients) but took me aback for a moment as I was expecting something the colour of cream cheese.

Garden Tomato Salsa

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2006
It seemed heavy on cilantro and light on tomatoes to me. I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy but the 5 jalapeno slices were completely eclipsed by the flavor of cilantro. People at the party I took it to ate it, but its not something I liked enough to make a second time.

Super Easy Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2006
It was ok, I liked the concept of adding the radishes, but its not something I'd make again. Way too much dressing and its an "eat it that day" recipe. The next day it was limp & soupy and on Day 2 (after making the recipe for dinner one evening) it was so unappealling looking I just tossed it.
