Slow Cooker Chicken and Sausage Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
Oh my goodness, if I could give more stars I would! This was spectacular!! I followed the recipe closely. I did omit the beans, my husband refuses to eat them. I used 2 sweet italian sausages and 2 hot italian sausages, I often mix them in recipes. Also I used 2 chicken breasts partially cooked then cut tiny. I had everything else in the slow cooker on high until I put the meat in. Then I put everything in at the same time and let it slow cook for 5hr - my whole place smelled so good all day and everyone was eager for supper that night!! This didn't disappoint anyone - we served over white rice cooked with beef broth. Loved it!!

Rita's Spinach Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2010
I made this a 2nd time last night (forgot to review after the first time) and it came out awesome. I modified it just a little - I browned onion & garlic with the ground beef. For seasoning I used 1tbsp Italian seasoning instead of the thyme. In addition to the sauce I added a can of diced tomato. I did use the sour cream. I used fresh spinach (matter of preference, shouldn't change the flavor) and I put that in with the beef & sauce before adding to the oven pan. I used a mix of mozzarella & cheddar to use up open packages of each. Used shells (can't find w.w.bow tie pasta). We loved it with these modifications, we found it dry & bland otherwise. Hope you like it :)

Slow Cooker Pierogie Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2011
This was surprisingly good! The ingredients sounded interesting so I had to try it but I cut the recipe in half. My husband said maybe I should try more cabbage & bacon next time - so basically I think 2 packages of pierogies & half the butter would work well with leaving the other quantities as written. We'll have this again!

Sausage and Zucchini Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2010
This was excellent! Will definitely make this again! I added onion and garlic (because I nearly always do) and I had a bunch of cherry tomatoes that really needed to be used up so I added them quartered, but they didn't alter the taste much. I used sweet italian sausage, removed the casings. It really tasted great, we all loved it. Thanks jennkl!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
Delicious! We took the advise of many and cut the salt to half but will need to reduce it more still - was very salty but the other seasonings made this very tasty - all we changed was the salt (oh and put some minced garlic in with the onion). I used bigger chickens and they didn't cook evenly in my pan because they were snug so we'll have to handle that differently next time if I decide to use bigger chickens again, but that has nothing to do with the recipe - the recipe is fantastic and we will make this again!

Garlic Chicken Sausage and Summer Vegetable Saute

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2010
This was amazing! I feel guilty to review it though because I know it was posted by the makers of that brand sausage but I didn't use that, I actually used kielbasa because it's what I had. I never had polenta so I made my own with sundried tomatoes and garlic added - then I broiled it brushed with olive oil to be crisp. Everything else was per the recipe and the flavors were amazing. My son didn't care for the polenta but my fussy husband didn't mind it because the flavor of the sausage & veggie part was so delicious. Oh ya, I did use a zucchini but I also added a summer squash as well. And I put the rest of the sundried tomatoes in with the sausage & vegetables. Definitely making this again!!

This soup has great flavor! I loved it. I followed the recipe plus I added a couple of chicken breasts diced & browned. My whole family really liked this, we especially liked the crunch of the water chestnuts. I will be making this regularly!

Koshary

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
I really enjoyed this, so did my son. My husband didn’t care for it but he really doesn’t like lentils. He did try it still, and he said he liked the top part – the pasta with the tomato & fried onion toppings. I’m glad I made it. There are a lot of steps to the recipe but I like making involved recipes from time to time. The only thing I made different was I use brown basmati rice and that cooks longer but we love that rice – and we use brown rice & whole wheat pasta only but the pasta doesn’t usually change the flavor very much. I was worried to fry the rice in butter, I thought it was going to burn but it worked out just fine. I’ve had koshary before, a Filipino coworker made it once for a potluck and I’ve been curious about the recipe ever since. This was different from hers, but not very different. The recipe makes a lot too. I especially liked the chickpea ‘condiment’ part of the recipe, that flavor was really good and had a nice little kick to it.

Grandma's Butter Noodles

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2011
These were very good, I used half whole wheat flour and half all purpose but that's the only change. I thought when I was rolling out the dough that I had it really thin but when it came time too cook them it was clear that they could have been thinner - but it's well worth trying these again - practice makes perfect lol

Homestyle Beef, Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
We had this last night, it was pretty good, not great. I did take the advice of many of the reviews and added 1tbsp italian seasoning, it could have used more; also added garlic & onion. I forgot to buy tomato juice so I added a can of diced tomatoes - I really liked them in the meal. I used 2c cheddar cheese, would like to try with sharp cheddar next time. I also used a whole pound of macaroni, it wasn't too much pasta for the liquid in the recipe, it just needs flavor. I probably will make it again some night when we need a quick meal. **UPDATE** I made this again and still used a can of diced tomato, the soup, and a small 5.5oz can of V8 because my husband thought it was slightly dry the first time - he prefers pasta "saucy" - and I added a tablespoon of worchestershire sauce too along with the onion & garlic. I added 1-1/2 tablespoons of italian seasoning this time and all else the same (still using a pound of pasta - whole wheat elbows) and I did try the sharp cheddar that I've been wanting to try - we all really loved the changes. This made it VERY GOOD when before it was just 'pretty good' :)

Not Your Mama's Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
I really loved this, DH likes it and wouldn't mind having it again (he's fussy and wouldn't hesitate to say he didn't want it again if he didn't like it). It's different but so good - I made it just as it's written. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

Marinated Spicy Pork Chops

I've made this before but never rated it - we had it again last night and it's just great! No changes to the ingredients needed - however sometimes I just bake the chops and they're very good that way too.

Chicken Lasagna Alfredo

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
This is FANTASTIC! Everyone loved it!! I made "Easy Alfredo Sauce I" to go with this, it was out of this world - so easy too. I keep 1c measures of shredded cooked chicken in the freezer to make meals like this more convenient, and this is one meal they were perfect for. I doubled the spinach too, but we're all big fans of spinach - that's all I changed :) yum we'll have this regularly!

Pizza Soup II

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2010
This was very good. We did modify it based on some reviews. We added garlic & peppers, and used 1/2 the pepperoni which we cut into quarters. Next time we want to get stick pepperoni to have bigger bits in the soup. Another addition we tried was adding another cup of water and a cup of orzo, we liked the texture the pasta added. The flavor was pretty good, it does need a boost, maybe more italian seasoning next time too. We'll have it again though - it was easy & quick as well, that always helps on busy work nights :) **UPDATE** I made this again using 1tbsp italian seasoning and cutting up a 5oz stick of pepperoni into chuncks and it made the world of difference - we all really loved it - it disappeared this time lol :)

Ground Beef Lo Mein

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2010
Quick & delicious - just what I love! I made more than the recipe calls for to have leftovers and took some advise from other reviews. I used 1lb spaghetti and 1lb hamburger - we used whole wheat spaghetti. I did use one jar of gravy, but about 1/4c soy sauce. I browned onion & garlic with the hamburger. I added ginger & oyster sauce too along with the pepper and vegetables. This was perfect for needing a quick meal after a long work day - we'll definitely have this regularly!

Shrimp Asopao

Reviewed: May 3, 2010
Fantastic! I followed the recipe very closely - but I did take the advise from the reviews to use a couple of cans of diced tomato to make up some of the 7c of water. Also I used frozen broccoli (husband hates peas). I used brown basmati rice - love that! but it does take longer to cook. When it was nearly done I sampled it and it was a little bland so I added a couple of spoons of beef broth granules which added just what it needed. I will definitely be making this again, it was so good and a nice variety for cooking shrimp.

This was absolutely delicious, everyone loved it. I followed the recipe exactly with the exception of searing the meat first. I used my dutch oven to slow cook it at 325 for 2hr then added the zucchini (had to try my new dutch oven! :) We'll have this again!! I served this with Garlic Parmesan Orzo, so delicious!

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
These were good - I had a tough day getting dough to rise (made two dough recipes) but that isn't a fault of the recipe. I unfortunately cooked them a tad more than they needed, again not a fault of the recipe. My youngest son and I still really liked them, oldest son & DH thought they were so-so but I will try this again :) the frosting was quite good!
