About this Cook
Retired engineering secretary and ESL teacher. Two daughters, five grandchildren (1girl 4 boys) ranging from 24 to 16. Cooking is not my favourite occupation.
My favorite things to cook
Ontario-style meatloaf; my-style chili con carne; an adulterated pasta dish of eldest daughter's.
My favorite family cooking traditions
probably that meatloaf
My cooking triumphs
2 pies per year, Thanksgiving pumpkin is much appreciated, and Christmas mince is ok - very ordinary - but liked.
My cooking tragedies
I don't seem to have had any - if something is turning out weird, I fiddle with it till it's edible!

Pork Tenderloin with Mustard Sauce
I found that soy and wine do very little in the way of flavour despite long marinade. And mustard certainly needs to be reduced else it crowds out whatever flavour was left in the pork. I shall not use this again - soy and brandy is much better, the less soy the better, too. I never tweak recipes the first time I use them - otherwise how would one know what the recipe actually tasted like.

Roast Leg of Lamb
They do not say what the temperature should be using a meat thermometer, nor does the recipe say how many minutes per pound. This recipe is far too vague for a beginner.
