Blackberry Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2011
Followed the recipe exactly except I used a strawberry/peach combo. My dough fell apart when I tried to roll it so I just kinda squished it together and then sliced it--doesn't seem to matter anyway. I was very skeptical after pouring the sugar water over, it looked a waterlogged mess, but it turned out wonderfully, and the water really does get completely absorbed! This is my first time making cobbler like this, and I'm very happy with it. I'll be making this again for sure.

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2011
So good and easy! I've never sautéed rice prior to cooking before, and I'm glad I tried this. I thought I had tomato sauce before I started cooking but had to substitute at the last minute. I tried a salsa/ketchup blend as it's all I had--it's still really good. The ketchup makes it a bit sweet. I also added some chili flakes with the cumin and garlic salt and the flavour is wonderful. Over all this is a fantastic recipe and method for cooking rice.

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
I thought I had black beans in the house but all I had was black eyed! This recipe is quick and delicious. I'd like to try other beans in this too.

Basil and Sun-dried Tomato Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2008
This recipe worked for me because I tinkered with it. I prepped and baked it manually. I dissolved the yeast with 2 tbsp of sugar, then added 2 tbsp of olive oil to that, then added all the dry ingredients and extras. I also added 4 or 5 cloves of garlic. I added gluten by substituting a cup of whole wheat flour for a cup of bread flour. It's a little heavier than I usually like, but it's awesome bread. It smelled amazing in the oven.

Buttermilk Pie IV

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
This was okay. It was really sweet even for me and I love sweets. It was bland too so I don't think cutting down on sugar would be worth it. I won't make it again.

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2007
This is the best bread of any kind that I've ever had. I'm ditching my old Soda Bread recipe for this one. I followed the recipe exactly but I reduced the baking time. I think my oven just runs hot.

Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
This recipe turned out perfectly. I added a quarter cup of sugar with the buttermilk and tripled the cinnamon, based on other revews. The only thing I had trouble with was the baking time. I baked them at 350 for ten minutes. I didn't feel like making icing but I did add some leftover butterscotch chips. Very nice! I'm making more this weekend and I'm adding currants this time. Once again, awesome recipe!

Buttermilk Scones

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2007
I just wanted to use up my extra buttermilk and I'm so glad I chose this recipe. Anyone who says these are bland: it says in the description this is a basic recipe-I took this to mean I get to choose my own flavour. I added mozza, oregano, and a touch of basil. I decreased the temp and increased the cooking time because my first batch was raw inside, but otherwise these were awesome.

Red Velvet Cake IV

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2007
My friend and I found the cake to be bland, but w/ this frosting that's ok because otherwise they would have been fighting w/ each other. I also had to bake it an extra 20-25 minutes. I chilled the frosting about twenty minutes in the fridge before spreading it since it was so runny, but once I did that it was fine. I'm not sure I'll make the cake again but I will probably use the frosting again w/ my chocolate cake.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2006
These turned out cakier than I like, but they're the first chocolate chip cookies I ever made that stayed soft. I quartered the recipe and got a dozen HUGE cookies. I'm going to tinker w/ the recipe to make them less cakey, but otherwise they were great.

Quinoa Tabbouleh

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2006
I seeded the cucumber and tomatoes, and I halved the oil and lemon juice, so I didn't find this watery @ all. I did substitute cilantro for parsley based on other reviews, but next time I'll stick w/ parsley. This recipe is really good and makes a lot more food than I thought it would. It does get better the longer it sits. I'll make this again.

The glaze was perfect, but I'm going to use it w/ my own meatloaf recipe.

Aunt Hazel's Apple Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2006
I doubled the cinnamon and added nutmeg. This is a very soft and cakey cookie. Not bad, but not great. I think this is too bland, but my mum likes them. They really do need the glaze.

Chicken Breasts with Lime Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2006
This is a great recipe. It was flavourful AND easy. I served mine w/ quinoa on the side and they went together nicely. I'm reducing the butter next time but only so I can look my weight loss coach in the eye. Thank you.

Rhubarb Bread I

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2006
Really good! This is perfect except I used two cups of rhubarb and baked it an hour. Until now the only rhubarb recipe I had was a cobbler, so thanks!
