No Bake Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2014
Made it with a gluten-free graham-cracker-and-butter crust, and it was raved about by children and adults alike. The top looks pretty plain; think of sprinkling chocolate curls or crumbled reeses on top.u

Chocolate Babka

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2014
Do it! Don't hesitate! For something so impressive, it's really not that much work, no fancy ingredients required. The sweet bread is wonderful, not too sweet, and biting into the chocolate filling is a transformative experience :) I did add a little more chocolate, which was fine; but I think doubling it, as someone suggested, would really overwhelm the bread.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2007
Just like it says in the introduction, after trying this, my non-sweet-potato-loving husband said, "this is way better than with marshmallows!" A two-step process, but really not complicated. And I didn't have pecans, so I skipped them. I'm sure it would be better with them in, but everyone loved it anyway.

Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2008
Great! Really appreciated how quick it was. And as others have said, adaptable. I cooked it right away at 350 for 1 hour, and that worked well. I used colby-jack to suit family's preferences, and still tasted great. using milk instead of cream works wonderful and reduces a lot of fat. I will say that I put it in a 10" pie plate, and that was too big--the quiche was thin and didn't fill all the crust.

Fresh Pear Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2014
Really nice; don't hesitate. I mixed the pears with the sugar, following regeland's recommendation and adding about a tablespoon or so of fresh grated ginger to the mix; it was subtle, but added a zip. It didn't really taste like apple pie, but like something a little different. And I was worried the pears would turn to mush, but they held up, sliced about 1/4" thick.

Crispy Fish Fillets

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2009
Wow, this was great. I used cornflakes, but I think panko would have been even better if I'd had any on hand. We used 4 oz. flounder fillets, not great in themselves, but tasted terrific with this simple coating. I did find that this wasn't enough mustard coating for my fish, so I would make more next time.

Baked Denver Omelet

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2013
This was just great. Needed to use eggs, needed a quick dinner, bored of omelets and frittatta. this was a little different, I threw in the cheese and ingredients we had on hand, and it came out great.

Quinoa Side Dish

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
Wow! I've always liked quinoa for the health benefits, but thought the taste was strong and slightly bitter. But the broth (I used chicken stock) and the herbs seemed to mellow it. We'll be having a lot more quinoa!

Round Steak Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2013
I especially commend the balsamic vinegar and ginger. Made it a little more complex and interesting. We had it with mashed potatoes.

Pumpkin Cranberry Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
Awesome. Very moist, just the right amount of cranberries and pumpkin and nuts; for me, anyway. And it looks pretty just as it is. Would make a nice gift.

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2009
Well, my young boys didn't eat it (no surprise) but my husband and I and teen daughter thought it was terrific. No bitterness from the quinoa after a brief soak (10 minutes), very easy to make and to personalize with different spices or even add other vegetables. we'll certainly make it again.

Zucchini-Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2015
Very, very good. My kids didn't even notice the zucchini, which is a plus. Next time I'd probably put in even more.

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
Great base recipe to vamp off of. In addition to the vanilla, I added a little orange extract, plus about a tsp. of cinnamon to put on spice cake. Just right with some extra appeal.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
Very easy & quick, so great for weeknight suppers. Couldn't believe it, but my school-age children really loved it, and they are NOT adventurous eaters. I did lighten up on the spice, but it's easy to adjust something like that to taste.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
Really good. I tripled the sauce as other reviewers suggested, but that's not really needed, unless you know your family wants to eat a lot of apples. Please make sure the chops are almost fully cooked before removing them to the oven to warm.

Creamed Chipped Beef On Toast

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
This is your basic, old fashioned recipe for SOS. And you know what? It's still easy, and it's still pretty well received. My non-meat-loving kids really like it, and it is sooooo fast to make.

Tomato Curry Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2010
Very nice! Easy, but tasted like it came from a restaurant. Kind of an introduction-to-curry recipe. Was good with rice, and I recommend serving sauce separately for picky children and dieters.

Grilled Pork Chops with Fresh Nectarine Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2010
I substituted peaches, but everything else was the same. It went over extremely well--very nice balance of flavors in the salsa, the chops were flavorful but not spicy...if you're nervous about trying it on your kids, go for it!
