Baked Denver Omelet

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2013
This was just great. Needed to use eggs, needed a quick dinner, bored of omelets and frittatta. this was a little different, I threw in the cheese and ingredients we had on hand, and it came out great.

Tender and Easy Buttermilk Waffles

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2013
Very nice. I used half whole wheat flour, and still came out great.

Potato Latkes I

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2013
I just wanted a quick recipe to remember the ingredients. These are all great, and the shredding/grating debate is totally up to individual taste. The only problem was waaaay too much egg. I wonder if her potatoes are really dry, or her eggs really small. One would be sufficient.

Round Steak Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2013
I especially commend the balsamic vinegar and ginger. Made it a little more complex and interesting. We had it with mashed potatoes.

Sirloin Tips and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2013
The sauce was great (I did use fresh mushrooms and eliminated the tomato sauce for dietary reasons), but I didn't find 30 minutes to be enough simmering time for this cut of beef. I don't cook with sirloin tips often, so I was looking for a quickish (less than a few hours) recipe that would serve up some nice beef. Even the kids liked this, but the meat itself was lacking.

Pumpkin Cake with Orange Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2012
I'd give this 3 1/2 if I could. The cake was nice, but not special. It did look lovely come out of the bundt pan cleanly. I didn't like the raisins either; they seemed to me to interrupt the texture. The glaze didn't give me that zing of orange flavor I'd hoped for; I think I'd try o.j. concentrate next time, or maybe a little extract.

Lemon Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2012
Pretty easy. I was skeptical, but everybody liked it fine. That said, it wasn't anything especially creative or surprising. Just a basic, easy, go-to recipe that will please most people (butter is like that).

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2012
Good, basic recipe. Easy. A classic coffeecake. Buttermilk can be subbed for the sour cream, with slight adjustment to the liquid/dry proportions.

Chicken Chorizo on Quinoa with Peppers

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2012
Thank you! I was in a hurry for dinner, and thought, "Quinoa and sausage?", found your recipe, used italian bulk sausage from the freezer, modified the spices accordingly, added a tomato (just because the freeze is coming soon) and we were all so happy. The proportion of quinoa is high for the amount of sauce, but since it tastes so good prepared this way, no one will mind having leftovers for lunch.

Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2012
Well, it was more work than I usually put into dinner. And I should have remembered what the other reviewer said who cut the number of panko crumbs in half; 4 cups was too many and I hate to waste them. I added garlic powder and a little sage to the breading; everything tasted great, it was just all more work and more fat than I'm usually looking for in a recipe.

Spaghetti Pie II

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2012
For parents tired of spaghetti and looking for a kid-friendly alternative, this is a good one. I did think the spices were a little boring; I'd consider amping it up with crushed red pepper, basil, more salt and pepper.

Fish Fillets with Stuffing

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2012
I'm thinking that Donna mentioned "crunch" b/c of the carrots, and mine WERE crunchy still. I cooked it in the oven on the recommendation of others. Really liked having something "dressy" to do with pollock, and it wasn't complicated. I should say that I wanted it drier, so I left out the broth and the egg and used only lemon juice and butter (and the veggies) to moisten the filling. That seemed to work well. I'd make it again.

Round Steak and Gravy II

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2012
I started with really nice round steaks, about 1/2" thick. Although the gravy turned out plentiful, easy, and good, the steaks were ruined. Dry, even with gravy. Disappointing. I notice that others cooked it much longer, in a crockpot, and maaaaybe I'll try that when I have time; but I needed it done in a couple hours and was glad to find this recipe, but it just didn't work for the beef.

Beer Braised Irish Stew and Colcannon

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2011
The beef was fantastic this way. Cutting up the meat was the biggest chore, and all the work is on the front end. The only change I made from the recipe was to saute the cabbage in a bit of the bacon grease instead of microwaving it.

Baked Salmon with Tropical Rice

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
I made it as directed (with brown rice). The coriander was mild and the flavor nice, but we didn't really like the texture--too crunchy. But the bigger issue was the rice. If I did it again, we'd cut the mango up very small and mix it with more rice. Instead of the tastes blending, it was just like chunks of mango mixed with rice.
