Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks

Reviewed: May 21, 2015
this was great. Never sauteed peppercorns before, but it was really good! Simple and guest-worthy. Great recipe.

Grilled Chicken with Spicy Mango Glaze

Reviewed: May 5, 2015
I made this with bone-in breasts. Spicy, but good. I couldn't grill, so we cooked it in the oven the whole time, adding the glaze toward the end. Grilling would have been better, but it was still good.

Brownie Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2015
Too rich for us, even over lackluster box brownies. I really liked the way it poured liquidly over the pan of brownies and then hardened up though.

Light and Fluffy Coconut Macaroons

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2015
Easy, fast. I made them just as directed, but they were too sweet for me. If I make them again I'll cut that way down.

Zucchini-Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2015
Very, very good. My kids didn't even notice the zucchini, which is a plus. Next time I'd probably put in even more.

Hearty Ham Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2015
Made this with turnips mixed with the potatoes, and added more herbs than called for in the recipe. Family devoured it.

No-Fuss Turkey Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2014
I did actually boil the carcass, and served it with dumplings, but what I liked about this recipe was the chipotle and the sherry. Thought the addition of those kicked it up a notch and my family went crazy for it.

Moist Chocolate Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2014
Made it as directed except buttermilk in place of half the yogurt (what I had on hand). Very good. Two helpful notes: I could tell there was no salt, and I'd add a little next time. Also, I got more than the dozen out of this; filling the muffin cups 2/3 full meant a LOT of leftover batter. Be forewarned.

Corn and Potato Chowder with Mild Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2014
Easy to make, and my moderately picky family mostly loved it (one teenage son abstained on principle). But this compliment from my husband made it worthy of 5 stars: "Honey, you should open a restaurant." Bam. There ya go.

Roasted Beets with Goat Cheese and Walnuts

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2014
This was a very nice, updated way to prepare beets. The flavor combination works great. I would have given it 5 stars if it had somehow made beet-eaters out of my boys and husband, but alas, this recipe does not work miracles.

Maple-Soy Glazed Salmon

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2014
Guys, this was great! And tbh, I skipped the plank and even the grill, one hectic rainy day. The flavors are interesting and tasty and enhance the fish rather than detracting from it. I love the idea of trying it on pork or veggies, too

Chocolate Dipped Brown Sugar Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2014
I made this as directed, or tried to. The second step is a mess, b/c it has you taking 8 strips, cutting them each into 6 pieces, and only getting 24. Also, baking the shortbread as directed made the pieces ooze together, and when I tried to separate them after baking, they broke. The taste is nice, but bland. It definitely needs some kind of spices, and I think I would add more salt, too. That said, people ate them, and it was a simple enough recipe and looks lovely.

Rock's T-Bone Steaks

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2014
Fantastic! Great rub, complex. People seem to object to different spices used here; that's one nice thing about a homemade mixture, is you can leave out or adjust the amounts of ANYTHING to personal taste. I only used 1/3 as much cayenne as called for and it was still a little spicy for my boys. I used the full amount of salt, but it was large-grain. I agree with others that was a little too salty.

Wow. Soft, slightly sweet, very versatile--could be served for literally any meal. And looks absolutely lovely, so it makes a great gift.

Matzah

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2014
The ingredients work fine, but what puts this recipe over the top is the explicit instructions. I've baked a lot, but matzoh is thin and has these very specific parameters--you did a great job walking me through the process until I got a feel for how to do it. Thanks!!

Chocolate Babka

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2014
Do it! Don't hesitate! For something so impressive, it's really not that much work, no fancy ingredients required. The sweet bread is wonderful, not too sweet, and biting into the chocolate filling is a transformative experience :) I did add a little more chocolate, which was fine; but I think doubling it, as someone suggested, would really overwhelm the bread.

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2014
Made it with a gluten-free graham-cracker-and-butter crust, and it was raved about by children and adults alike. The top looks pretty plain; think of sprinkling chocolate curls or crumbled reeses on top.u

Fresh Pear Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2014
Really nice; don't hesitate. I mixed the pears with the sugar, following regeland's recommendation and adding about a tablespoon or so of fresh grated ginger to the mix; it was subtle, but added a zip. It didn't really taste like apple pie, but like something a little different. And I was worried the pears would turn to mush, but they held up, sliced about 1/4" thick.
