About this Cook
My name is Lily and i'm an aspiring chef. I started learning to cook when as soon as i was big enough to reach the counter. I'm taking a year off right now, but I plan to attend culinary school. Some of my other interests include digital audio production, gaming, and learning stuff.
My favorite things to cook
I always make chicken soup for my close friends when they're home from school. I am particularly good at cooking without recipes (and i can hardly ever leave one alone), but i always use them to bake. I would like to specialize in soups and sauces.
My favorite family cooking traditions
*Athena's Swedish-Italian All American spaghetti sauce : ) There's always something cooking at my house...My mother and I spend a lot of our spare time in the kitchen. We don't really have any "traditions"...unless you count the all day labor christmas eve day in order to get ready for the party : )
My cooking triumphs
I taught a teenage boy to cook. I'm glad i could help someone discover a talent, he's really pretty good! (he also loves to chop veggies and makes a great assistant : p) My dad confessed to me that i was becoming a better cook than my mother, a few weeks ago. I sucessfully made candy for the first time (not the first attempt, haha) about a year ago.
My cooking tragedies
When I first started dating this guy, I was invited to dinner at his parent's house. I decided I would really impress them, and bring a cream pie. I only ever made one a few times, and much to my horror, we cut it open and the filling hadn't set. It was like pudding! I also once failed to put the lemon in a lemon meringue pie. (needless to say, my pies need a little work)

Vegetarian Tortilla Soup
Delicious! The only change I made was I used about 5 ears of leftover corn instead of the canned : )

Carib Black Bean Soup
Yum! This black bean soup was delicious! I made a few changes, though. I only pureed half of the beans, and it had a nice texture. I also cooked some salt-pork in with it for added flavor. Because of the added salt from the meat, I omitted the soy sauce. I served it with chopped onion and sour cream : )

Amish Meatloaf
This meatloaf was okay...I made mine with meatloaf mix (beef, veal, and pork), and it developed an unusual orange color. I liked the bacon, but the sauce was way too sweet, it ended up tasting like "meat candy". I might make this again with less sugar.
