I am a wife, mother, family therapist, business owner, graduate student (but almost done) who loves to cook but rarely has time. I love to eat new and different things, so I am always trying new things.
My favorite things to cook
I love to eat so much I used to weigh over 300 pounds, but after many years of recovery I have been maintaining a health weight for over 3 years. What I cook now is governed by health and flavor...LOTS of vegetables, and little or no sugar, flour or fat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Several years ago I asked my family members to share recipes with interesting family stories that relate to the stories. My favorite one was from my cousin who, as a poor college student, offered to weed the neighbors gardens so she could harvest their greens to eat. This was the most fun way to connect with my food loving family that I have ever experienced.
My cooking triumphs
I love to adapt or make up recipes that taste good. Since letting go of sugar and flour I have faced many challenges of learning to change recipes so they meet my nutritional needs, taste good and aren't excessive.
My cooking tragedies
Since I do a lot of experimenting, there are many of these. The biggest tragedy is to put in a lot of effort for something that just doesn't taste good. I like a lot more different things that my husband or son, so it is a challenge to find something new, that they will eat, too.
