Peanut Butter Bars I

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
Fantastic! Took the advice of one of the reviews and reduced the butter by 1/2 stick. I chilled the PB bottom for about 20 minutes to make spreading the chocolate easier. HUGE hit at our Superbowl Party and could not be easier!

Chocolate Babka

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
So.Good! I used Nutella in addition to the chocolate mixture just because I wanted more chocolate. I also skipped the streusel topping, egg washed the top and sprinkled cinnamon/sugar on before baking. The dough was so easy to make and handle-I didn't need any additional flour at all. It was definitely one of the best doughs I've worked with in awhile! I took both "loaves" to a Bible study group of 12 people and both were gone in less than 10 minutes. Next time I may opt for the more traditional twisted loaf, but these were just fine too! I made my cuts with scissors towards the top and didn't have any issues with leaking filling. My husband, who's Polish, didn't remember having this with chocolate, but with a nut filling instead. I may have to figure out what he's talking about and give it a try as well!

Jam Filled Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2011
These were great! Quick and easy. I adapted this to be sugar free by subbing Splenda for sugar and Sugar-free preserves for regular. Worked perfectly :-) I did add some vanilla and lemon juice to the dough as Splenda tends to make the dough drier. Cooked for about 14 minutes because when I tested one of the larger cookies it was still a big doughy on the inside.

Rebekka's Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
So good! I made my own stew by stewing chicken thighs with herbs & spices in water, adding store bought stock and some heavy cream at the end. Followed the recipe for the dumplings exactly, but doubled it. Delicious!

Japanese Ginger Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
I used my own measurements (to taste) and used another reviewers idea of using mayo in place of the olive oil, used all the other ingredients as listed. It worked really well! We prefer the creaminess and taste (really can't taste the mayo at all) to the strong flavor of the olive oil. The soy gives it a pretty ugly color (if you use mayo), so I added 2 drops of red and 3 drops of yellow coloring to get an orange color close to Thousand Island dressing!

Pumpkin Spice Cookie

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2008
When I mixed the pumpkin and cake mix together, it was really dry and all the mix wouldn't mix in. So, I added 1 egg, about 1/8-1/4 C orange juice and a teaspoon of vanilla. That consistency was a lot better! I also added some extra cinnamon and a lot of fresh grated ginger. Baked for 10-11 minutes. So easy and really good!

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2008
My brother and husband thought these were great! I thought they were a bit too sweet, but I like dark chocolate more than sweet. I used 1c flour like others and upped the cocoa powder to about 3/4c. Ended up using a 10x7 pan because I couldn't find an 8x8. Baked for about 40 minutes and they were dense and moist and fudgy!

Fudge Brownies I

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2008
I changed a couple of things--2 eggs, used salted butter and omit the 1/2 teaspoon, 1 1/4 cup sugar and used semisweet chocolate squares. Texture was still a little cakey and crumbly for my liking. Taste was ok, but too sweet. I'll blame part of it on the chocolate (although semisweet baking squares are still pretty bitter). I'll cut sugar down to 1 cup if I make them again. The hubby like them, though!

Spiced Tea Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2007
Worked out great for my gift baskets! I ended up having to make so many batches that I just stopped measuring stuff and did it to taste. For my own use, I've found that making the tea in the Crockpot and then putting in a pitcher in the fridge is really easy! Just pour a mug full and microwave for about a minute and a half! Easier than measuring mix and boiling water every time you want a cup.

Easy Herb Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2007
Followed this recipe pretty closely. I used butter in place of olive oil and chicken stock in place of water. Also added quartered onion and rough chopped celery and carrot to cavity and bottom of roaster. Had to double it as I had a 26 lb bird. Was easy and tasted great too!

Vickie's Beer Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2007
Used Sam Adams Winter Lager. Came out really dense and bitter, even after adding extra baking powder. Going to play with it as my husband and his friends liked the flavor...

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2007
Worked great! Didn't rise as much as I would have liked (only let it proof about 15 minutes). Next time I'll let it go a little longer. Otherwise, it's easy and the flavor is there!

Hot Cocoa Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
I had to make quite a few changes with this. I added a lot more cocoa and a lot more sugar and a little more powdered milk. It's a decent start, but you have to play with it if you want something more than brown water.

Cappuccino Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
I am personally not a fan of cappuccino, however, my friend is and she LOVED it! I did add a little extra coffee to the mix because she said the original was a bit "weak".

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
Yummy! Didn't use tomato soup because I didn't have any...just used homemade canned tomato juice mixed with a small can of tomato paste. And I forgot the egg...other than that it was all the same and it was good!
