Ham Bone and Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2014
Pretty good! I had a ham bone and needed to use it, so I did this recipe with what I had on hand. I cooked it on the stove on high for 2 hours and it came out great. My only alterations were to use 6 medium potatos and I mashed some of them to give a creamier texture to the soup, just a preference. I did not have corn so I omitted that. Pretty good. I only gave it 4 stars because it was saltier than I would have liked, which I did notice the ham itself was saltier than others I have purchased so that could be at fault, but the next time I make this I will use less bouillon. I will will definitely make this again.

Slow Cooker Roast Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2013
The meat was SO tender!!! I made a few changes based off of what I had. I had a 3.5lb roast, I used the recipe on this site for and Alternative to Dry Onion Soup Mix, (instead of using dried onions I finely chopped 1 large onion). I did brown the meat first and then put it on the slow cooker on high for 5 hours. sooo tender. the flavor was so so, hence the 4 stars.

Snickerdoodles I

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2012
I made 2 batches for a fundraiser. The first was done with older flour and it turned out flat. The second was done with fresh flour and the results were flufflier. Either way it tasted great, my husband wasnt complaining.

Sloppy Joes II

Very good. Also a great base recipe to make your personal changes to. I used fresh garlic minced instead of garlic powder, cut out the green pepper and used 1/2 ketchup and 1/2 bbq sauce. cant wait to try other reviewers alterations. mostly this recipe is great because it is simple and good.

Juicy Chicken

Reviewed: May 16, 2012
The marinade was pretty good and basic. I broiled the chicken in a pan so the marinade could really get in there. I would do this again

Mushroom and Artichoke Soup

Reviewed: May 9, 2012
I made it exactly as the recipe stated and then tasted it, it was good but I decided to add a touch of freshly grated ginger and some Korean Hot pepper paste for spice. Delicious! I will make this again.

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2012
I made this recipe in the Rice Cooker, just dumped all of the ingredients into the slow cooker adjusting the Chicken Broth to be 1.5 cups. I omitted the vegetable oil, save myself a few calories. I thought it was pretty good. I would definitely make this again, adding in a bit more onion I think, personal taste and maybe some minced garlic. There is room to play around.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2011
This is the second time I have made this. The first time I followed the recipe almost exactly, except I did salt and pepper to taste. Delicious. This time I played around with it. I added a bit of soy sauce and some Sirachi (my husbands favorite) and it added a lot of flavor and spice which is popular in my house. I like it both ways and cant wait to experiment more. Yum!

Drop Biscuits and Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2011
I found the biscuits to be tasteless but I suppose that is what the gravy is for. I didn't want to go to the store so I used canadian bacon (1 package) and added enough beef bouillon to mix with the 1 3/4 cup milk, adding it into the gravy mixture when it was sufficiently hot. the bouillon added flavor but I am sure cooking with the sausage would have been more flavorful. I think the canadian bacon was healthier and tasty so I would continue to make this with my substitutions but I am intrigued to try it with sausage. I would use a different biscuit recipe though.

Glazed Meatloaf II

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
The sauce is very good but my husband and I found the meat a bit bland. I gave it 5 stars because the meat is tender and overall it is very tasty but I think we like something a bit more savory. I will keep the sauce and use it on a more savory version of the meat. Something with garlic, Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce. One reviewers tip to use bread in the bottom of the pan was GENIUS. I did meatloaf muffins and cut little circles out of sliced bread using the 1/3 cup measuring cup as a cookie cutter, just remove from the bottom before serving, it soaks up all the grease. Such a helpful tip

My Korean husband loooved this. We moved to a small town which has no korean restaurants and this was my first attempt at a korean dish. The grocery store only had a korean sweet and spicy paste but it still came out delish, and I was told to make this more often. YUm Yum Yum

1-Pot, 3-Bean Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2011
I thought this was decent, Healthy, filling, my husband throws hot sauce on it and eats it up. But I didn't think it was anything special. That may have been because I used dried herbs instead of fresh ... I will try again with fresh to see if it makes a difference. To make the broth a bit thicker I added some cornstarch in.

Octoberfest Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
I was very disappointed with this, in terms of flavor. I made this with Sam Adams Oktoberfest, one of my favorite beers but I gave 3 stars allowing for different beers giving different flavors. Mostly I think I didnt like the brown sugar which gives it a sweetened taste whereas I was looking for something more savory. I cooked the roast in my slow cooker high for 3 hours cooks it perfectly. remember it keeps cooking after you take it out so maybe take it out a bit sooner if you light it on the rare side. Meat was tender, I just didnt like the lightly sweet flavor

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2011
I followed the notes of BETHANYWEATHERSBY who submitted the recipe and made it all in the pan used to melt the butter and then transfered it to the baking dish. I substituted the buttermilk by putting 1 tablespoon in my one cup measuring cug and then poured in milk. Wait 5 minutes, good to go. It should be noted that when you eat it straight out of the oven it tastes a lot sweeter than when you let it cool off. For the people who thought it was too sweet I wonder if they tried it the next day. Either way it is delicious, and I felt no need to put butter on it. I will try this again with some lighter substitutions next to make it a bit healthier. will report on my findings

Turkey Maple Breakfast Sausage

Reviewed: May 31, 2011
This is just ok until you add 2 tbsp of maple syrup like one reviewer said. I made it as written but after cooking 6 small patties and tasting it I could tell it needed the maple syrup. Its subtle but adds a juiciness and flavor that is otherwise lacking. Will make again and again. Does not taste like turkey, my non dieters were surprised!

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
Ok after reading a bunch of reviews I did the following: I sprayed my slow cooker and then lined it with two criss crossing sheets of foil, which made for a very easy clean up. I chopped up a bunch of carrots and placed them on the bottom of the slow cooker. Then I took a 7.8 lb spiral ham and glazed it with a mixture of 1/4 tsp ground cloves, 1 cup honey, 1/3 cup butter, 1/4 cup brown sugar (as per a reviewers suggestion) then I placed the ham inside the slow cooker, set on low for 5 hours. I started off turning it every time I glazed (every half hour) but slacked off towards the end. THe end result was the bottom had a bit more flavor than the top. It was still really juicy and had good flavor but next time I think I would glaze every 30 minutes and flip it half way through. I would also put more carrots in as they were devoured. Oh it is delicious to keep the juice in the bottom of the slow cooker to pour on mashed potatoes or other veggies. Yum! UPDATE: Made this again for easter, made an non spiraled ham cut the carrots thin and put it on high this time. While the ham stayed juicy the carrots got soggy. The unspiraled ham was more moist but didnt have the same flavor throughout. Less sweet is better for sandwiches though. In future will still to low on slow cooker for 5 hours, medium cut carrots, probably not spiraled.

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Delicious. I accidently doubled the pineapple and it made it taste like bread pudding! Still tastey, but next time I will try it with the proper amount of ingredients. Great with the cream cheese frosting II on this site
