French Baguettes

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2011
Excellent! I would have given this 5 stars but if DivineHealth7 didn't explain how to make this recipe without a bread machine, I wouldn't have known where to begin - a big thank thank you to DivineHealth7 as this was my first time making anything that contained yeast and it was a success! Otherwise it's a super easy and reliable recipe. Will definitely make again. :)

Beer Batter Fish Made Great

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2010
This is the first time in over 4 years since joining this site, that I've ever felt compelled to write a review immediately following a meal. I just finished eating fish tacos made with this beer batter, and believe you me, it is "made great"! It's superb! I used almost half the amount of seasoning suggested and sprinkled just a bit of salt on each piece after it was cooked and I thought it was just right. The cooking temperature suggested is perfect. Thank you SO much for sharing your lovely recipe with us, Linda!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2010
These recipes are so highly rated for good reason! This is without a doubt, my favorite pancake recipe on this site - even more so than pancakes that use real buttermilk. It was not necessary to change or substitute or add a single thing to this recipe. Thank you soooo much for sharing this amazing pancake recipe, Kris!

Mom's Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2010
Deeeelish! I followed the recipe exactly and these pancakes were super. This was the first time I ever used used buttermilk in pancakes and I will probably continue using it from now on! The ONLY reason I didn't give this recipe 5 stars is because I found that they were just a bit too salty, but other than that, 4.5 for sure!

D's Skillet Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2009
Absolutely awesome! This was my very first attempt to making home made gravy from pan drippings... and it was delicious! My hunny said it was better than his favorite gravy that his mom makes - that should be another rating in itself!!! Thanks, D! It's delish!

Maria's Portuguese Bacalau

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
OH MY GOSH! This was unreal! I followed the recipe exactly except I omitted the chopped eggs and olives for garnish. The real name for this recipe is actually 'Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá'. I am Portuguese (my entire family was born and raised in Portugal) and when I told my mom I was making this dish she got so excited! She told me she hadn't had it since she lived in Portugual over 42 years ago! This dish was soooo incredible and tasted so much like something that my Portuguese family would make. Thank you so so much for posting this delicious, authentic recipe, BINGADING!

Mushroom Spinach Omelet

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
Yummo! This is a super yummy recipe! I followed the recipe pretty much exactly except I replaced the mushrooms with red bell peppers (allergy), and used green onions instead of the regular onion. Also added some fresh parsley, and it turned out delish!

Apple Crumb Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2008
Yummers! The only changes I made was I omitted the nutmeg, nuts and raisins (didn't have any on hand) and I replaced the 3/4 cup of white sugar in the apple mixture with a 1/2 cup of brown sugar (highly recommended!). I used the 'Healthier Pie Crust' recipe found on this site for the base. Made this for my boyfriend and I as a treat one night and he begged that I make it for our dinner party the following weekend. It was devoured! I'm super picky and I would absolutely make this again. Thank you for the recipe!!!

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2008
Um... wow! These biscuits were awesome! I used half spelt flour and half kamut flour, replaced the milk with rice milk and omitted the sugar because of the rice milk's natural sweetness. Although I wasn't sure that these were going to work out because of my changes, I went for it anyways... and man-oh-man am I glad I did! These are delicious and went terrifically with our beef stew... deeee-lish!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
These were really really great. It wasn't the 'perfect' cookie that I was looking for, but they were still delish. I took them to a get-together and they disappeared within minutes. I followed the directions exactly and received a ton of compliments on them. YUM!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
These were pretty good. Followed the directions exactly. I'm going to try a different recipe next time I make pancakes, but I would probably make these again too.

Moroccan Salmon Cakes with Garlic Mayonnaise

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2008
These were pretty darn good! Personally, it was the garlic mayo that really did it for me - I don't know that I would have enjoyed these little cakes nearly as much without it. For the mayo, I minced the garlic then sprinkled a touch of salt on it and crushed it with the side of the knife to make a paste. Doing this adds an intense garlic flavour to the mayo without having actual pieces of raw garlic to bit into. I had leftover couscous so I didn't follow the cooking instructions that required orange juice, but I think I would have replaced the orange juice with stock anyway (personal preference). I used one cup of cooked couscous, a 213g can of salmon (all I had), one whole egg and about 2/3 of the recommended spinach and these cakes turned out great. If my boyfriend wasn't going to be eating these, I would have definitely added some chopped green onions which would have been delish (he hates onions). Great recipe. Enjoy!

Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2006
These were incredible!!! These are the best granola bars I've ever tried, literally. The version I made tasted almost identical to the Quaker chocolate chip granola bars that kids love. I made a few adjustments like using whole-wheat flour, omitting the sugar and creaming together 2/3 cup butter and 2/3 cup honey together instead and everything came together beautifully! I added shredded coconut, pecans and 1/2 of a bar of 70% chocolate that I chopped up. PERFECT! Thank you so much for the recipe Nancy!

Mediterranean Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
YUM! This was excellent. I used fresh tomatoes instead of the canned, used a 14 oz can of artichokes rather than the 6 oz suggested, and left out the olives because I didn't have any on hand. I also used 'bacon style' ham, which was awesome because it’s so low in fat and calories but still has a lot of flavour. I made this recipe late Monday night, ate half of it before bed, and finished it by Tuesday afternoon. Ridiculously easy, healthy and delicious! MMMM thank you Sara!

Greek Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
DELICIOUS! WOW, what a great tasting pasta dish. I added just a touch of butter with the olive oil to cook the onions (adds some great flavour), seasoned the chicken breasts with salt and pepper before cooking, used half of the oregano suggested (not a huge fan) and used whole wheat penne pasta. I used reduced fat feta cheese which melted right away and created this beautiful, light, creamy sauce. Everyone that tried it absolutely LOVED it. I'm so thrilled that I found this recipe. I will be using this for many years to come. DEVINE recipe Lalena... thank you so much for posting!

Health Nut Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
WOW! These are, without a doubt, the best tasting (healthy) muffins I've ever tasted! I'm a health nut myself so I switched a few of the ingredients. Seeing as the banana I used was quite large and very ripe, I omitted the sugar and added 1/4 cup of honey and the muffins were still perfectly sweet; I could have even left out the honey, but at the same time I'm glad I kept that little bit in. I used all whole wheat flour, used rice milk instead of the buttermilk, and added 1/3 of a cup of shredded coconut, which gave it some really great added texture. I will absolutely be making these again with my modifications. Thank you so much for the recipe! AMAZING!

Bran Flax Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2006
These were really good! I'm a health nut, so I made the following alterations: Used whole-wheat flour instead of all-purpose and 1 cup of honey to substitute the brown sugar. My arm was tired enough after grating the carrots, so I decided to chop up the apples and that worked out awesome. I loved having the little chunks of apple in the muffin; it added some extra texture. I also didn't feel like running out to the store to pick up some ground flax seed, so I used 3/4 cup of wheat bran instead and they turned out amazing. They are so moist, healthy and delicious. Thank you so much for the post Jane!

Whole Wheat Banana Nut Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
This banana bread was wonderful. It was so moist, even days after it was baked. I've tried a couple of banana bread recipes on this site and this was, without a doubt, the best one. A little more dense than the others, but SO delicious! I am shocked at some of the poor reviews this recipe got.
