I grew up in a beautiful small town with a HUGE European family and now live in a huge city with just me and my hunny and our pup! I absolutely ADORE food - in every sense of the word. Eating it, cooking it, looking at it, reading about it, learning about it, researching things about it. I'm food-crazy!
My favorite things to cook
Pretty much anything! Although I've always enjoyed making healthy meals, and still cook healthy 90% of the time, I'm really starting to enjoy indulging in foods I've never even dreamed of making (or eating!) before. Maybe it's something that comes with age? Maybe I'm letting go a little of how my body ideally should look? Who knows what the reason is, but I like it! After being an avid cook for about 7 years, I only JUST deep fried my first thing ever and now I'm hooked! OMG I love food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with love and passion. I find that you can honestly taste the difference in something that is made with either one. I learned from the best - my mom, my grandma, my aunts. My favorite memories are of family gatherings, but especially Christmas & New Years dinners - just incredible, copious amounts of food... and you wouldn't believe how many Portuguese women you can fit in a kitchen!
My cooking triumphs
Anything that makes people go crazy and freak out about how good it tastes. My homemade ice cream, fruit crumbles, biscuits, roasts, insanely good mashed potatoes and a Portuguese codfish dish called "Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá". Anybody else getting hungry?
My cooking tragedies
I often try to make things that shouldn't be healthy, well... healthy! I once tried to make Yorkshire puddings with whole wheat flour and rice milk and it was an absolute disaster. My hunny is part English and he still wont let me live that escapade down.
