I am married - have been married for about 4 and a half years. No children, yet, but we are definately planning on having children in a few years. My husband is a grad student at University of Nevada Reno, and I work in the hospitality industry as a sales coordinator. Both my husband and I are involved in our church - he teaches sunday school, and I pretty much help wherever and whenever I can.
My favorite things to cook
Well, I've discovered I enjoy baking more than cooking. Especially breads, like banana bread or pumpkin bread. Cookies are fun, too. As for cooking, I like anything that doesn't take a lot of time or that doesn't have a laundry list of ingredients. I'm still really nervous about cooking for people other than my husband, though. For me, food is a pleasure, and I'm afraid that my guests won't take any pleasure from what I've served them. I know I shouldn't take it so personally...it's something I'm working on.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm not sure we have one. I remember waking up on Saturday mornings to a huge Mexican breakfast. My mom always made chorizo with egg, refried beans, homestyle fries ("papas"), and flour tortillas. I know it's not the healthiest thing in the world to eat, but I have great memories of those times. And, I used to love helping my mom make cookies...ok, mostly I would just sneak bites of raw cookie dough, but I still loved it!
My cooking triumphs
This past Christmas, I made Chocolate Zucchini Bread and Peanut Butter Fudge to take to my family's Christmas Eve dinner. Everyone gobbled up the Peanut Butter Fudge and they loved the bread. I was so happy everyone liked it.
My cooking tragedies
My boss is a vegetarian, and whenever we have employee celebrations, he can't eat the store-bought cake because of the eggs in the recipe. So, I attempted to make him an egg-less cake. It was the first time for me making a cake from scratch. It tasted fine, but looked horrible. He was gracious enough to take it home with him. He said his children ate it. So, I guess that's not so bad.
