Homemade Ice Cream Cones

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2014
taste was GREAT, but end up a bit thick for a cone and softer than would be ideal . . .

Crispy Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2012
Great crispy recipe. A good basic recipe you can add spices to for a bit of variety. So easy, too. I did thin strips and cooked them for 8-9 minutes at 350 or so in the fryer. Yum.

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
This was good. I did add a bit of sour cream to it at the end to give the sauce creaminess (it felt watery, even after a long simmer) and I added golden raisins and cauliflower. I would have liked a more complex flavor, but it was a good basic dish.

Easy Sugar Cookies

As advertised. Good! Needed to get the butter to room temp to get them to flatten out much, but delish!

Blueberry Cornmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2012
The time is way off on this, which made it a very frustrating recipe. I'm not sure how long I cooked them in the end, but it was far longer than the time in the recipe...

Cocoa Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2012
I love cocoa and I love oatmeal, and these were a good, not-very-sweet cookie (the taste was a bit more like a biscotti, according to my husband). I'll enjoy them with coffee in the late morning or afternoon, but when I want something sweet or buttery, I won't reach for this recipe.

These were ok. They were sortof dry, though. I prefer "Chewy Chocolate Cookies"...

Sour Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
I altered this recipe, following the guidance of other reviewers (reduced the sugar, added vanilla, soda and powder, and reduced cooking temp of 350 for 1 hour). I only added on t. vanilla and next time I'll double that... I think it would be VERY dull with the vanilla.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
I was hesitant to let them brown, but the browned part was the best part (sweet, crunchy, and delish). I'm afraid we are still searching for our regular Brussels Spouts dish, as we all tried to like this one but didn't.

Lacy Oatmeal Cookies

This recipe is taken directly from the Mrs. Field's Best Cookie Book Ever. Good cookies, but that's where the recipe comes from!

Pancakes I

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2010
These were ok (I added vanilla), but I could taste the baking soda, and I'm not sure why pancakes would need baking powder AND baking soda (isn't baking powder essentially baking soda with other ingredients to temper its bitterness?). Next time I'll look for a recipe without baking soda.

Mom's Buttermilk Pancakes

Wow. I know people try to be positive in here, but this is ridiculous. These were SO salty! And I generally like salty food.

Garlic and Dill Salmon

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2007
I love garlic, but this pushed it too far for me. My husband enjoyed it, and I also think it tasted sortof great, but I wondered what a more subtle version of it would be (this one seems designed for people who don't want to taste anything other than garlic). I'm going to hold on to the recipe, but put 1-2 cloves of garlic on each piece of fish, with maybe a tablespoon of dill. Then I'll see if it is quite as drowning in garlic flavor.

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2006
I wouldn't serve this to company, although I'd make it for my toddlers again, substituting a pasta kids can eat with less mess. It is a VERY basic, rather bland, chicken with soup-sauce recipe. Easy & comforting, but certainly not a 5 star recipe (which I'd save for special recipes that are unique and, well, really great!).

Port And Mushroom Sauce Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2004
I loved this combination of flavors --tarragon and mushroom, I guess. I added LOTS of tarragon, and used a variety of mushrooms. And I used more wine and broth than called for -- and added a bit of sherry instead of port. Buono!

The Old Boy's Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: May 28, 2004
This is the only pie I've ever made that was a disaster! The berries I used were fresh and firm, but their liquid turned the filling and crumb topping to a pasty mush.

Best Tuna Casserole

YUMMY! Comfort food for sure. I made it with salteens on top, with the cheddar cheese. This recipe makes a huge amount, so I've got it stored up in the freezer for the winter weeks ahead.
