Red Pepper Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2006
Bitter and sour. I decreased the amount of citrus as recommended by the second reviewer, but it didn't help. Would not make again.

Merenges

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
Wonderful! I had leftover egg whites from a recipe that only called for yolks so I decided to try these cookies. I never made meringues before, but these came out delicious! Instead of the lemon zest I subsituted a teaspoon of vanilla extract and they ended up tasting like marshmallows! Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Yummy -- and beautiful too!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
The Best! I made this exactly as written, and just added some chopped walnuts to the top. Everyone LOVED it. I even froze a loaf and thawed it out a month later -- still delicious!

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
Meh. I added garlic and cumin as others have suggested, as well as some chopped up red pepper, and it was overall "OK." Edible but nothing extraordinary. Spiciness was just right but flavor overall bland. It needs something -- fresh herbs maybe? Would not make again.

Zucchini Wrapped in Tortillas

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2008
Wonderful! The flavors remind me of indian food. I didn't have cumin seeds so I substituted cumin powder at the end, and added some fresh chopped cilantro since I had it handy. Delicious!

Slippery Shrimp

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
Love love love this recipe! It is dead-on exact to the Slippery Shrimp at Yang Chow's in L.A.'s Chinatown. One bite took me right back to the west coast! The second time I made it I doubled the sauce and that was nice as well.

Zucchini Corn Fritters

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2008
Really good! I had a couple zucchinis to use up so I thought I'd try this recipe. The only changes I made were I used frozen corn instead of fresh, reduced the sugar to 1 tbsp, increased the cumin to 1 tsp, and omitted the cheese. They came out wonderful! I served them with sour cream. Would definitely make again!

Pumpkin Cookies V

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
Wonderful cookies! I used butter instead of shortening and they came out just fine. I also found it was easier to just dunk the tops of the cookies into the icing. My only change in the future would be to double the amount of cinnamon, because I love cinnamon!

Lemon Drop

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
I'm not sure what went wrong here, but I followed the recipe exactly and this was SOUR! I mean, really, really, sour. I've had lemon drops before and they were nothing like this. I added an additional two teaspoons of sugar to make it drinkable, and eventually ended up filling the rest of the glass with cranberry juice because it was simply too lemony.

Baked Rigatoni with Italian Sausage and Fennel

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
Basic, but extremely tasty! The fennel flavor was not as prominent as I thought it would be. If I make this again, I will double all the veggies.

Vanilla - Chocolate Powdered Sugar Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
Followed recipe exactly... Perfect! Will use the recipe from now on. Comes out great even without the cocoa. I've also tried adding citrus zest, and that came out wonderfully as well.

Carrot Chile and Cilantro Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2010
Bland as is. Double the amount of chili paste, garlic, and cilantro. Stir in more fresh cilantro, the juice of one lime, and a good amount of kosher salt at the end... delicious!
