Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2015
This was my first ever attempt at making a cheesecake and it turned out perfect! I followed the recipe as is, with only two slight changes (per other reviewers): 1) the crust: Be careful here. it calls for "15 Graham crackers" which I interpreted as 15 whole crackers or 1.5 packages! I realized this was way too much after crushing them all. Use the previously mentioned recipe for the crust ( 1.5 C crushed graham crackers etc). 2) I did follow others recommendation and baked in the water bath. I used 3 layers of foil someone suggested and had no problem with water getting into the pan. I baked it for 60 min at 325 degrees and then just shut the oven off and let it sit in the oven for 8 hours (over night, since I baked it in the evening)Then, in the morning, refrigerated until serving it that night. Perfect, perfect. perfect. So yummy. Thanks so much. This is a keeper!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
This was very good and really quite easy. One word of advice: DO NOT ADD the 1T salt, the recipe asks for! I just added 1t and it was still a little too salty, next time I will just add a pinch. I used the noodles you don't have to boil first. I only had shredded mozzerella instead of the slices it called for, and it worked great. Thanks!

French Spring Soup

Reviewed: May 1, 2011
I thought this was pretty good! A great way to get your veggies! I also added a can of garbonzo beans for some protien and used brown rice. I used all water, but then a couple cubes of chicken boullion and only needed to add 2t salt. Yummy.

Southwestern Quinoa Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2011
Exactly what I was looking for! All of my favorite flavors. I also added edamame and avacado. I made my own adobo from a recipe on this sight and the finished product was not too salty. just right. (I didn't use chicken broth, but water instead and rinsed the beans thoroughly..that helped reduce the salt) Thanks!!

Moroccan Tagine

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
This was very yummy and easy. a great way to use up some veggies. I did increase the spices, as many others suggested: tumeric, 3x corriander, cinnamon, cumin, ginger. I also loved someone suggestion of adding raisens (apricots would've been great, but didn't have any) The raisens were great. I only had ground chicken and that worked good, but I agree with others that you could omit the chicken and increase the garbonzo beans and it would be just as good. Thanks!!

Reviewed: May 2, 2010
I only made a few changes: used elk rump roast cut up into small pieces instead of beef. Added celery, onion, sweet corn. It was delicious! my picky husband even had a second bowl AND my 3 and 5 year olds both loved it!! yeah! it's a keeper.

After-Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
5 stars with the following small changes: reduce to 1/2 c flour and 1/4c butter. Used skim milk instead of cream or 1/2&1/2...and it came out just fine! I also used brown rice instead of white. Added more celery, carrots, mushrooms. Added extra turkey than what I took off the frame. I thought It turned out to be an excellent soup, and even low fat with the above changes. Yum.

Turkey-Lentil Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
This was very good and fast. I made it just as written with only one change: adding carrots. One piece of advice: next time I will brown the sausage by itself and drain it well, before adding onions and celery. I didn't get a chance to drain it and it was quite greasy around the edges. The flavor was great. Even my picky husband, 3 and 5 year old ate some. I will make this one again for sure.

Caramel Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
Using 3 bags of micro butter pop corn worked perfect. We couldn't find our candy thermometer, but just heated to soft ball stage (which you get to rather quickly) and that worked fine. Thanks!

Cheesy Vegetable Chowder

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
I loved this recipe for using the abundance of garden veggies in a way my picky kids might eat them (3 and 5years). I only made a few small changes: I sauted the onion, celery, carrot first, then added the water. I did use 1/2 chicken stock, 1/2 water with 3 bouillion cubes. I added extra veggies: broccoli, bell pepper, used fresh sweet corn, peas, beans and carrots. I used real cheddar cheese. It was a hit in my family! Thanks

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
These tasted really good. I made just like the recipe, but added dried cranberries and chocolate chips. I used butter flavored crisco, instead of butter. My only complaint was that the dough was really crumbly and hard to form into balls. The baked cookie stays together well though. The crumbliness might be my own fault for skipping the refrigeration time. Next time, I would put them in the fridge like the recipe and see if they are less crumbly. Thanks!

The Best Bean and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
Excellent! I've been making bean and ham soup for years, but wanted to try a different recipe. This recipe is truely "the best". I stuck to the recipe, except I didn't have veg. broth and used a combination of chicken broth and water. oh, and I added some barley and lentils too. The flavor and the consistency is perfect. Thank you!!

This was so easy and a great meal! I cheated and used left over cooked pork loin that I chopped and added to the sauce, but it turned out great. My 4 year old had 3rds! Thank you!

Herb, Garlic and Bacon Pork Loin

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
This was really good. I did briefly brine and then brown the pork loin. Every thing else unchanged. It was extremely moist and yummy. My kids age 2 and 4 asked for seconds. That says it all.

Mexican Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2009
This was just ok. Even after I added garlic, chili powder, onion powder, extra broth, cheese...it was just really bland, even though I love all the ingredients and usually love tortilla soup, this just didn't taste as good.

No Name Orange Roughy

This recipe gets points for being quick and easy. It was pretty good. I also reserved the liquid from the tomatoes so it wasn't so soupy. I would make it again for a quick, healthy dinner.

Macaroni and Cheese with Caramelized Onions and Bacon

This tasted pretty good, but was quite greasy. I loved the onions and bacon. It did take a long time to make, considering it is macaroni and cheese.

Lamb and Winter Vegetable Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
Excellent! Even my 2 year old ate an entire bowl. My anti-vegetable-husband would've liked it even more if he hadn't witnessed me cutting up the squash. I used venison and did double the broth. I also added a couple cubes of beef boullion. This is a keeper for sure!
