Italian Dressing Mix

this was great. i didn't have celery salt so i omitted it, used half the regular salt, and used olive oil instead of canola. my garlic salt also had parsley in it (mccormick's) but i still added the parsley the recipe called for as well. it wasn't too much, tasted great.

Chocolate Chip Bars

these are very crumbly and cake-like. if you're expecting a granola-bar-type taste, this isn't it. however, it's a simple recipe and nice to not have to use the oven.

Honey Garlic Vinaigrette

yummy as written, just wish it could be slightly healthier. i might try others' suggestions of 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup oil next time. served it on a salad of mixed greens, craisins, almonds and mandarin oranges, and it went perfectly.

Asian Beef with Snow Peas

authentic tasting. i doubled the sauce and used dried ginger as someone else recommended. i used 2 tbsp ginger but found it a bit much (although my husband said it was perfect). also used different veggies--carrots, celery, onion and red pepper. a great base recipe and a wonderful sauce.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

when they said soft, they meant SOFT. i thought the taste was great, but note that these are not chewy (as i assumed) ... they're literally soft. i made half a batch (all on one cookie sheet) and they baked about 14 mins. i used double-strength vanilla from penzey's.

Balsamic Glazed Carrots

delicious, just gave it 4 stars because the cooking time was off. i'd say on the stovetop it could take between 15 and 25 minutes. might try steaming in the microwave first next time.

Easy Baked Tilapia

so easy and really tasty. i used frozen cauliflower/broccoli/carrots and made half of the servings the original recipe calls for, but it baked for about the same time as the full recipe. served with baked potatoes.

Awesome Bow Tie Pasta

I used a can of diced tomatoes (seasoned with oregano and basil), adding some salt. This was great, even better the next day (or 2 or 3). It makes more than 8 servings, I'd say. I added black olives the second day, as it needed a little ... something. I also doubled the green onions, as they disappear in this massive dish. *ETA Try using a smaller pasta shape; works best with the quantities of the other ingredients in the recipe

Lemon-Pepper Salmon

this was really good, and i'm not usually a salmon fan. i didn't have any cilantro so i substituted dried parsley. also, instead of the 2 tbsp of oil, i sprayed the pan with olive oil spray for a second or two. there's plenty of fat in this dish between the oil, salmon, and butter!

Chocolate Trifle

I used Kozy Shack chocolate pudding, negating the need for the condensed milk, some of the whipped topping and the pudding mix. An easy shortcut that helped cut the sweetness a tad. Also added strawberries and topped with Andes mint pieces.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

good, not very pumpkin-y. i used butterscotch chips instead of chocolate chips, which gave it a great taste. for me, this made two small loaves and 12 small muffins. the breads baked 45-50 mins and the muffins about 20 minutes (they were baked in a regular-size muffin tin but only filled the cups halfway).

Roasted Chicken Salad Bites

i too bought a pre-roasted whole chicken for this recipe, but the only choices were cranberry or apricot roasted chickens. this added a bit of an odd taste, so if you're making this with a store-bought roasted chicken, go for one without a fruit flavor. it wasn't bad, just conflicting tastes. otherwise, a good recipe.

Curried Coconut Chicken

this was pretty good, but i agree that it needed a little something. i made the curry the way cook stephanie suggested (6/11/07). i had 1.2 lbs of chicken to work with so i used less coconut milk and sugar, the full can of stewed tomatoes, and left out the tomato sauce. it was still plenty tomato-y. make sure you use a deep skillet, as this recipe has a ton of liquid.

Onion Salmon

note: this review reflects using a lot of the suggestions, not the basic recipe. i did this in the oven as suggested, and i also added olive oil and lemon juice. it came out pretty well! needed some salt though, and i'm guessing it would need it even when making the recipe exactly as the original.

Lemon Chicken Tenders

i cut down on the sugar, using about 1/4 of a cup, because i thought 1/2 a cup would be overpowering. turns out it could have used the full 1/2 cup the recipe called for. despite that, my husband said this was "a keeper," and he rarely likes chicken. ETA: for the sauce, i combined the ingredients and microwaved for 30 seconds rather than using the saucepan method. it worked pretty well.
