Beans, Beans, and Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2011
OK, I know I'm not supposed to review if I changed the recipe, but these were THE MOST amazing beans I have had outside of an authentic BBQ restaurant. First of all, the only things that I changed were 1) I omitted the meat because I wanted a vegetarian-friendly side dish, and 2) I just dumped everything in the slow cooker and let it cook on low for a few hours. AMAZING!!! I will be making these beans often because EVERYONE raved about them. Thanks for the fabulous recipe!

Perfect buttercream. Very stable and easy to frost cakes and cupcakes. Tastes just like what you find in store bakeries.

Sour Cream Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2011
First of all, these were very tasty, but very wet. I could see that the mixture was wet, so I decided to make this as meatballs instead of patties, hoping they would have a better chance of staying together. Even as meatballs, they completely fell apart. So I added them into a marinara sauce, and they completely enhanced the flavor of the sauce, so it was still quite good. Finally, I will admit that I added in a packet of ranch dressing (something I had seen in a previous recipe), and I think that really made this recipe. If I make this again, I think I will use oatmeal instead of bread crumbs (may help to keep their shape), or more meat, or both.

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
I made this in the slow cooker so that I could come home to it tonight. OMG, it was wonderful. The kitchen smelled great, and the soup was delicious. I used a goat cheese and sun-dried tomato ravioli in lieu of tortellini. The thing I like about this is that you can play around with different tortellini flavors and different sausage flavors. Thanks for a great recipe!

Chicken Hurry

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
Soooo good! And so easy! I just put the sauce together, let the chicken sit in it for 8 hours, and threw the whole thing in the oven for 45 min. Delicious! The sauce is mouth-watering. I will make this often.

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
I thought these were fairly tasty and very filling, but I was the only one who really enjoyed them. My family thought it was O.K. for a new, unique meal, but I was not asked to make them again.

Secret Burger Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2010
Just like McD's secret sauce. Made this for a grilling party, and it was devoured! My bf even asked me why I had not made this before, and requested it for EVERY time we have burgers. Will definitely be making this often!

Chicken Puffs

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
These were great - filling little appetizers that everyone enjoyed! I did make a few changes (I just can't help myself!), and, maybe I overstuffed my crescent rolls, but I only used 2 8oz cans. A bit time consuming, but I will probably be making this again when we have a cocktail party.

Beer Cheese Pretzel Dip

I will be honest; I did not have high expectations for this one. But what a hit! This was THE hit of my Beer Fest party - people could not believe it was made with beer. This is so awesome with crunchy veggies; I will be making this for all of my summer time parties.

Brownie Frosting

Awesome frosting for brownies. Yes, it is super sweet, but isn't frosting supposed to be like that? Looked gorgeous (smooth and shiny) on my brownies.

These were quite good. Tasted like banana cake. Very easy to make, and a great way to use up too-ripe bananas.

Favorite Barbecue Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
This makes an excellent sauce for chicken. It's almost like a cross between sticky and BBQ chicken. Very easy, and had all of the ingredients on hand; this will become a staple in my house.

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2011
Simple, yet delicious. This gravy brought back memories from childhood. And it's so versatile! I have even used just plain ground turkey, added in my own spices, and then continued with the recipe as written. I do not double the sauce because I like to have lots of chunks of meat in my gravy.

Cabbage Beef Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
I really enjoyed this! I replaced the beef with MS veggie crumbles, and replaced the beef bouillon with chicken bouillon (what I had available), but I don't think those changes were very drastic from the original recipe. Hearty, yet not heavy, filling, and you can feel good about it. I'm sure I will be making this often!

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
This tasted exactly like the buttercream you taste on cakes from stores. Followed this recipe to a T, and it came out great. I personally don't care for plain vanilla buttercream, so I think needs better flavoring, but this is the best base recipe I have found so far.

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2014
This is very close to Paula Deen's baked French toast recipe, and, as written, is only OK. There was way too much liquid and it just didn't cook through well (results were mushy, although very sugary which enticed kids to eat it). BUT if you follow the suggestions by most of the reviewers, this can be amazing. You MUST cut down liquid to 6 eggs and 1.5 C half-and-half/milk. You will very likely need more than one loaf of bread, and slices should be 1.5-2" thick. Cut the bread and let it dry out overnight before soaking it in the egg/milk mixture. Other great suggestions (and I think they are essential to this turning out well) are (1) to cover the dish for the first 30 min (ensures even baking), then uncovered for another 20-30 min; (2) flip the pieces when you go from covered to uncovered; and (3) put on the sauce after you flip the pieces, just before you put back in oven to bake uncovered. Other more minor things that I followed was to replace the corn syrup in the sauce with maple syrup (I did not have corn syrup), add nuts to the sauce (pecans or walnuts are lovely), and I didn't bother with pre-heating the sauce, I just used the heat from the toast to get warm and spreadable. Following the major tips from the reviewers will result in a 6 star dish. My dp does not like sweets, but he LOVED this. Ate almost half the pan himself! And he's already requesting it again! Can't say I don't mind...this was delicious.

Cheesy Baked Eggs

This was really good! Very creamy and great flavor. I did add in some extra spices, and veggies, but the base recipe is great as a starter. Super easy weeknight meal!

Coconut Macaroons III

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2012
Super easy. Word of caution: 5.5 cups of coconut = 2 14 oz bags, NOT 64 ounces (which is what I originally thought since I converted cups to ounces). They were quite good, but super sweet. However, since they are so easy, I will use this as my go-to. Thanks for a great recipe!
