Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2010
I used a pork shoulder and 1 can of root beer, cooking on low in the slow cooker for 7 hours and then attempting to shred, but I think that it could have cooked a lot longer (we were pressed for time so we couldn't wait). I had to slice the meat as it didn't come out too tender, then put it in a casserole dish with the bbq sauce and cooked on 350° for 30 minutes or so. The flavour was great but the tenderness wasn't quite there. Next time I will take the advice of others here and cover the meat with root beer, cooking for about 10 hours on low, and then try the shredding. Easy recipe, just needed longer with a shoulder!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

This was just perfect. I did increase the milk as others suggested, then found I almost couldn't fit all the sauce. I added salt. Great flavour.

The Best Bean and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
This was awesome! Some changes I made: A sprinkle of Chili powder was enough for us, I didn't have a ham bone but the ham and vegetables made a nice stock by themselves, my bf picked up the regular V8 so I halved the salt in the recipe, and used homemade chicken broth with no salt. Also, completely forgot the worchestershire! I used 2 cups of dried navy beans and boiled them for an hour in 7 cups of water before starting the rest of the soup. I really enjoyed this!

Apple Scones

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
I loved these! Also added some cinnamon to the recipe. They are best when fresh as they are so nice and crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. I had many leftovers so I've been microwaving them when I want a piece. Great stuff!

Vegetable Whip

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
It was a little bland, and I agree that the turnip had a lot of water so it was more watery than regular mashed potatoes (I thought my bf didn't drain the pot properly!) Next time I would experiment with adding other spices, but the mixture was very nice together.

Baked Onion Dip II

I used half sour cream and half mayo, and this was delicious. I think next time I might add garlic powder or salt just to give it a little more zing. :)

I added in 1tsp each of a cinnamon and ground ginger, and used dark chocolate chips, and these turned out great! Nice and crispy on top. I gave one batch away and I'm getting requests for the recipe.

Great recipe! I burnt the first batch...keep an eye on them! I'm not sure they need that long in the oven. But the taste was fantastic.

Yakisoba Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2008
I brought this to a potluck but the noodles ended up being too mushy. For a dinner item it's great when eaten right away, but don't let it sit too long.

Bacon Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2008
I usually brine my chickens first (leave it sitting in salt water for 1-6 hours. Doing this recipe on top of it made the chicken actually seem a little undercooked because it was SO juicy! The temperature was right, supposedly it was fully cooked, but it was abnormally juicy. And the salt from the bacon added some nice flavour. I will try this again.

Catherine's Spicy Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2008
I halved the recipe and turned this into a slow cooker soup. I roasted a chicken the night before so I just used all the meat from that, I made the Salsa as suggested by another user, put everything in the pot using 5 cups of my homemade chicken broth instead of the boullion cubes and water. I also cut the spice to 1/2 tsp and it still had a slight kick to it. Cooked on high for 5 hours. I loved this, even a half recipe made so much that we gave away some to family members. I will make this again.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs I

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
I used regular ground beef, and followed the directions to a tee except for a squirt of ketchup to make up for having a bit less chili sauce. 4 hours in the slow cooker (we couldn't wait any longer) They tasted great! The sauce looked very watery, but what was coated the meatballs was just awesome.
