Almond Cupcake with Salted Caramel Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2014
Other than doubling the almond extract I followed the recipe. The cake was tasty, but not a light-fluffy crumb; the frosting turned out fine with just a bit extra powdered sugar to help consistency, but I just felt it was vet, very sweet. Recipe for frosting was easily twice as much as needed. I'm still undecided whether or not I will make this recipe again.

Key Lime Pie VII

OMG!! This was wonderful! Followed recipe exactly as written and topped with whipped cream dollops sprinkled with additional lime zest. Delicious beyond belief, not too tart, so refreshing!!

Chicken In Sour Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
Followed recipe exactly but without the salt (per other reviews). We were simply not impressed and will definitely NOT make this recipe again. Gravy was way to thick and salty and overpowering taste of onion soup...not in a pleasant way.

Grandma's Iron Skillet Apple Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
YUMMY! YUMMY! Since I don't have a cast iron skillet I made this in stoneware csserole dish, which worked just fine. Other changes I made was to use Honey Crisp apples and homemade pie crust from scratch. Topped with vanilla ice cream and this proved to be a perfect recipe!!

Strawberry Satin Pie

Reviewed: May 2, 2010
OK I had to wait until we tasted this to rate it, and since my pie was probably the ugliest Strawberry Satin Pie ever (operator error surely) my 5-star rating is based on taste alone! Before tasting we were definitely skeptical but turned into real fans. My pie was a runny, sloppy mess, but it was truly delish!! The only change I'd made to the recipe was to slice open a real vanilla bean and add it to the cream while cooking, removing the bean before cooling. I will definitely make this recipe again, although I am contemplating the revisions I'll make to prevent another ugly mess. My plan is to make the pastry-cream as then pour it into a bowl and press plastic wrap onto the surface of the cream to prevent forming a skin and chill. If I pre-bake mini pie crusts and glaze, we can then assemble these tart/shortcake style just before serving. Not sure my messy, ugly pie was worth all the work...but the resulting taste was!

Irish Cream Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
Although I used a butter pecan cake mix (it's what I had in the pantry) this cake was a definite do-over! Delicious, just sweet enough. We even enjoyed some of this as a breakfast cake.

Grilled Lamb with Brown Sugar Glaze

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this recipe!! Easy, quick, & delicious. Tastes somewhat similar to a terriyaki, nicely spiced, and very complementary to lamb! I'd recently bought a boneless leg of lamb from Costco (for less than $14) and I wasn't sure what to do with it. I found this recipe on AR based on previous ratings and reviews and decided to give a try... I trimmed and cut meat into approx 2" chunks then covered with the rub and let meat sit on counter for about 30 minutes. Simply cooked (sauted) in hot skillet with olive oil. We're looking forward to trying this recipe many times again...with chicken, on a steak, and of course to repeat lamb. Also plan on using this throughout summer on the BBQ!! Definitely a keeper!!

Ken's Perfect Hard Boiled Egg (And I Mean Perfect)

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2010
Although I consider myself an above-average cook, hard boiled eggs had never turned out correctly. Until now! Thanks to Ken's recipe I finally had a hard boiled egg turn out perfect! They peeled cleanly and easily and the yolk was cooked through without turning green around the edges. Follow recipe exactly...it won't disappoint!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

One of the best tasting cornbreads I've ever made! Would have been even better if I hadn't over baked it.

Ho Ho Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
We really liked this cake! My husband's favorite cake ever is the "Saunders Bumpy Cake" and this was close enough to please even him. Even better the second day! Store in fridge! Based on other reviews I followed recipe except for replacing the white sugar with caster (superfine) sugar to avoid any graininess. Cream filling sets-up in fridge and we liked the firmer texture. Family calls this recipe a "definite do-over"!

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
I tried this recipe to have for my daughter when she arrived home from college (she said she liked molasses cookies). These are yummy! I used only butter for the shortening but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. Perfectly spiced! I used crystal sanding sugar with some edible snow glitter mixed in for the holiday sparkle...beautiful. AND delicious. Adding this to my personal recipe box for good!

Kentucky Hot Brown

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
Not long ago we watched one of those travel/food shows on t.v. and the Brown Hotel's Hot Brown was featured. At the time we thought it looked interesting. Then just the other day I was browsing AR for recipes that would use up some of our leftover Thanksgiving turkey when I stumbled across this recipe. Made this today and we all loved it! Definitely a do-over! I followed recipe exactly for this first attempt; decided next time (and there will be many next times) that we'd like even more mushrooms (although I know they weren't part of the Brown Hotel's version, they are yummy). I also like the idea of trying more/other cheeses (romano, cheddar). Great recipe and very appreciative you shared it here!

Chicken in Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
Although very easy recipe, we were disappointed with this one. As hubby said, "this is not a do-over". Followed recipe exactly, but found chicken to be bland and have to agree with other reviewers that the appearance was not terribly exciting.

Curry Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
We didn't care for this one. The only change I made was the addition of half an onion as other reviewers had suggested. Neither myself nor hubby cared for the taste of this one.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
LOVE THIS BREAD! Had a partial can of pumpkin puree left in fridge and used it to make half a recipe (1 pan). Great flavor, wonderfully moist...yum!! Even hubby, who is not a huge pumpkin fan, loves this bread.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
We (hubby & I) really loved this soup! It is very similar to a potato soup I've made for years, but by making the roux as the thickener the texture was exceptional! Will definitely make this one again and again. Oh...but do not plan on leftovers...does not reheat well at all.

Pumpkin Cookies V

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
These look so good in the photo that I had to make them tonight. I think I may have let my expectations get away from me...they were good but just not quite as good as I'd anticipated. Followed recipe exactly, except baked each batch for about 16 minutes (yielded 4 dozen).

Halibut with Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
Not liking any "fishy" tastes, I was not expecting that I would actually like this dish. But I can say that I truly liked this dish and will make it again, many times! My husband is a fish eater and he also loved this. Followed recipe exactly and wouldn't change anything.
