I grew up on a homestead in Alaska in a big family. I learned how to cook for a crowd and then when I moved out on my own, I had to learn to make smaller amounts. When I get upset, you can find me in the kitchen baking something.
My favorite things to cook
Peach pie in July, enchiladas, beef stew, shrimp quesadillas, snickerdoodles.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family in Alaska still sells bags of eskimo donuts over the cb radio in the small village of Wainwright, AK. The family will get together about once a week and consume about 100 lbs of flour in the process.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering smaller amounts of food that I make.
My cooking tragedies
My first batch of rice. I though a 5 pound bag of rice would only make 5 pounds. I was 10 and wanted to surprise my family with dinner. By the time my mother came home, the rice was overflowing the pot. She had to transfer the rice into 4 different pots and we ate rice for about 10 days.
