I have adult children (twins)who are both married now and one much loved granddaughter. I have recently retired (loving it)and am active in my church and community. I love traveling to the NC coast or NC mountains to sightsee and visit family.
My favorite things to cook
Salads and fresh vegetables in the summer, soups and stews in the fall and winter, family & holiday dinners with everyone's favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditional foods on holidays. I use newer online recipe sources now but still treasure my handwritten recipes passed down from family and well worn cookbooks that I have accumulated for over 40 years.
My cooking triumphs
When I was working as a cake decorator in a grocery store bakery in 1976 we baked and decorated a cake in the shape of a map of the US for the Bicentennial and it was as big as the bed of a pick up truck! We served cake to the whole community.
My cooking tragedies
I cooked a wild turkey my husband had shot for company for Thanksgiving dinner. Luckily, I had cooked an extra turkey breast as a back up because the wild turkey still had buckshot in it. People ate the turkey and spit out the buckshot, but it was really delicious. Most fun dinner ever!
