Grandmother's Pound Cake I

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2006
Sorry, but this cake did not go over big in my house. In all fairness the cake came out good but it's just not the typical pound cake that we like. It was too spongy, where we like a more dense type pound cake.

30-Minute Minestrone

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
Not bad, but like other reviewers I added alot more veggies than what the recipe called for including squash & cannelli beans. Also, the more ingredients meant adding more broth and tomatoes and instead of elbows, I made small shells, topping off with some locatali cheese.

Whitney's Peanut Butter Cookie Balls

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2007
My husband came home from work and told me that someone brought in peanut butter cookie balls for everyone. He said that they were great. He asked for the recipe, but I couldn't wait. I started my search and came across this recipe and thought that I would give it a try. Well, he said that it tasted exactly like what he had. He did suggest to cut back a little on the mini chocolate chips. I guess the other recipe did not have as many and he isn't a chocoholic. I did refrigerate before I rolled them and it seemed to be alot easier. Thanks for sharing!!

Macaroni Salad for a Crowd

Reviewed: May 29, 2007
Not bad, I did make a few changes. I left out the black olives, cut the recipe in half, used sweet relish (all I had on hand)and reduced the amount in half. I will definitely make again.

Custard Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2008
My husband is always asking me for bread pudding. I found this recipe and gave it a try and he loved it. I wasn't to crazy for the custard part but he ate it for a couple of nights and said it was still delicious.

Special Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2007
Great dish!! I always bought the frozen box of Mrs. Paul's not anymore. I thought that they were so easy to make, smelled great while they were cooking and the taste was outstanding. I used butter instead of margarine and the oj I thought might keep it thin but that was not the case. They thickened up perfectly. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful bread! I used half white and brown sugar, apple sauce instead of the oil and wheat flour instead of the all-purpose flour. I will make this bread over and over. Thanks for sharing.

Chocolate Chip Pie III

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
This was prety good. It came out very moist and chocolate chips in every bite. I did use brown sugar instead of white and threw a teaspoon of vanilla extract. I left out the nuts because the kids usually complain. It's fast and easy to make and won't last long in my house!

Oven-Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2008
I increased the vegetables by using 3 zucchini, 3 squash, no red or yellow peppers because I didn't have them on hand. A pound of asparagus, a large vandalia onion, more olive oil and sprinkled garlic powder, basil, salt and pepper. Everyone went nuts over these veggies. I will make this quite often. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
I was a little nervous about the amount of cook time, since I had a 5 lb. smoked butt ham and I read many reviews and came up with a 4 hr. cook time and the ham came out very moist. I did use 1 cup of brown sugar on the bottom, pineapple rings on top of the ham with the juice and 1/2 cup brown sugar mixed with 1/2 cup of orange juice and poured over the ham. I removed some of the juice and put it in a pot and added cornstarch to thicken it up and then basted over the ham. I was so surprised on how good it turned out. I will make ham again this way for sure. Update 12/29/12, made this for Christmas, used a 7lb. butt ham and cooked for 4 hrs. it was so moist everyone loved it. I'll only use this way to cook a ham and the flavor was outstanding!!

Chef John's Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Very tasty, not much of a thyme lover, so i substituted a little bit of poultry seasoning in its place. I also used a small whole chicken to make the broth and used the meat to add to the soup.
