Cranberry Scones

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
I made these for Christmas morning and my parents loved them! The were fluffy and tender. In place of the half and half I used 1/2 cup of lowfat plain yogurt and 1/4 cup 2% milk.. I thought this gave a good consistency - the dough was a bit wet but it formed into circles easily enough. Also, I made 8 larger scones instead of twelve, partly because I did not realize quite how much they would rise and expand when baked. I would definitely recommend using a large cookie sheet and leaving ample room in between the scones. Parchment paper made for easy cleanup. Overall, a delicious recipe.

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
I made this for Christmas dessert and everyone loved it! It was delicious, and it really was pretty simple to make. In addition, it made the house smell amazing. I just sprinkled it with powdered sugar before serving. I made it exactly as written. I didn't feel it needed extra spices; it tasted like I expected it to taste, but I can understand how some people might prefer it to be "more ginger-y." This will definitely become a Christmas tradition.

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
Made this to go with breakfast this Thanksgiving, and everyone loved it! I didn't use the nuts (my dad doesn't like nuts) and I substituted applesauce for all of the shortening. I thought it was delicious - will definitely make it again.

Classic Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2006
These came out great! I made a few changes that others have listed... used whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup applesauce for oil (a snack pack size thing),cut down to 1/2 cup sugar, and omitted raisins. They were just lightly sweet and the texture was quite satisfying... thanks for a great recipe!

Scottish Oat Scones

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2006
At first I wasn't going to give this a star rating because I made quite a few changes,(whole wheat flour for AP, brown sugar for white, raisins for currants and applesauce for butter, with the addition of a half teaspoon of cinnamon), but then I realized that if I could make that many changes and they could still come out good, it must be a REALLY great recipe. They were just lightly sweet, and had a good, substantial texture from the oats. And my mom loved them, which is always a good sign! Excellent and versatile recipe.

Pancakes I

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2006
I followed the advice of other reviewers and added a little vanilla, and I did as an article on this sight suggested and let the batter sit in the refrigerator for about an hour, and these came out amazingly good! I had never made pancakes from scratch before, and this recipe is perfect for my small family as well. Also, I made them a second time with whole wheat flour and they still came out perfect!

Biscochitos I

These cookies are delicious. They are lightly sweet, and the combination of anise seed and cinnamon sugar make them pretty different. They take a bit of work to make, but the end result is certainly worth it.

Fruit Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
This recipe is simple and easy to prepare but everyone who tastes these bars is really impressed by them. It's great, especially for someone who is just learning to bake (like me).
