Amish Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2005
I made this meatloaf last night exactly as directed. My five and four year old liked it a lot. My husband and I thought the meat had great flavor. The glaze was a bit too sweet for our taste. I was just thrilled my kids didn't notice the onions in it.

Easy Alfredo Sauce II

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2005
This was awesome! I did add some garlic powder to the butter mixture. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but as soon as I mixed it in with the pasta, it became instantly smooth and creamy. I used portabella mushroom stuffed tortelloni purchased at the grocery store refrigerator section for my pasta. This is a keeper! Thanks Becky.

Banana Cake V

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2005
Oh so moist! I doubled the recipe and used a 13x9 cake pan. I had six almost black banana's and used all of them in the recipe. Great banana flavor. I can't wait to eat another piece of cake!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2005
It has been raining all morning and my two little boys decided they wanted to make the "new" chocolate chip cookies. I always used the Toll House recipe before. Not anymore! Our entire family loves this recipe. The only change I made to the recipe was that I use half semi-sweet, half milk chocolate chips.

Jambalaya Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2005
I really liked this salad. My hubby wants more meat next time. I did use frozen shrimp as others recommended. I used more spices than in the recipe such as red pepper,Old Bay seasoning, and more minced garlic. I like the flavor of this salad at room temp. better than cold. Next time I make it I am going to add more cooked bacon right before serving. I don't like soggy bacon.

Half and Halfs

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2005
Very clever idea. My kids thought they were cool. The only changes I made were that I made all of the dough at once, took half out and then added the cocoa powder to the other half. I added some white choc. chips to the chocolate dough. Baked at 350 for 12 min. Yummy.

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2005
Nice thick soup. Added smoked sausage and potatoes,Old Bay seasoning,28oz tomatoes, and can of beef broth. Instead of vinegar I used some hot sauce. Simmered 3 hrs on low. Can't wait to sit down and eat a bowl of it.

Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2005
I took the advice of another reviewer regarding adding the chocolate chips after putting the batter in the cake pan. Big mistake. The chips burned and I had to cut off the burnt cake. I salvaged the cake by icing it. It tasted great. Next time I'll follow the directions as written.

Great tasting cookie and very easy to make. I rolled the dough in chopped almonds and used strawberry preserves.

Festive Shortbread

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2005
I was in the mood to experiment with a recipe that I could use to make cookies on a stick. This was a winner. Nice buttery flavor and the sticks stayed in the cookies. These also held up to the handling when I iced them. I did add some vanilla to the recipe. I am going to try lemon or almond as well. Thanks for the recipe.

Beth's Orange Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2005
This is the first cookie recipe I have tried in a long time that has shortening. I always bake with butter. If, and if, I make these again, I will use butter. I loved the icing. In place of the zest, I used orange extract. I also added some cream cheese as well. When it comes to the icing, our family liked them better when I frosted the cookies warm. The icing soaked into the cookie for more more flavor.

Christmas Crunch

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2005
Easy to make. Not as buttery as I had hoped. Very Sweet! I was not sure what exactly defines crispy rice cereal. I used rice chex but got to wondering if it meant rice crispies instead. Feedback from other reviewers regarding type/brand of cereal they used would be appreciated. I am going to a holiday fair this weekend to sell my homemade goodies and I'll see how this recipe sells. Thanks for sharing your recipe Debbie.

Sweet Party Mix

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2005
This tastes really good! Very easy to make. I used a disposable turkey roasting pan and mixed the dissolved sugar mixture and the cereal mix right in the buttered pan with no mess. I used almonds, cashews, and dried roasted peanuts. I couldn't stop eating this stuff. Very addicting! Your kitchen will smell wonderful while it is baking too. Thankyou for sharing your recipe Bobbi. The only thing I would change next time is to use parchment paper instead of wax paper to cool mix on. I had trouble with the mix sticking to the wax paper.

Chocolate 'N' Oat Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2005
Yummy for your tummy! I had to increase the butter to 1 stick plus 2 tablespoons because the mixture was too dry otherwise. I used almonds and walnuts for the nuts and substituted milk chocolate chips for semisweet. Super easy to make. I did spray my pan with no-stick cooking spray and the bars came out very nicely. This is definetly a recipe I would make again.

Ham and Fresh Basil Pinwheels

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2005
These were ok. They were pretty to look at, but we didn't care for the taste. Way too much basil! I took these to a coctail party and everyone who tried them said it was like eating straight basil. You couldn't even taste the ham. It also needs more cream cheese, too dry.

Homemade Banana Pudding Pie

I didn't make the whole pie, just the pudding. This was super easy to make. No more instant pudding for us. We can't wait for it to chill so we are eating it warm. Yummy!

Kentucky Butter Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2005
This is a keeper! Very moist, great texture. My hubby and kids gave it two thumbs up. I am going to use this recipe as a base for a bundt coffee cake and see how it turns out. I did use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke about 6 or 7 holes in the cake and I used a knife around the edges of the pan to allow the butter sauce to soak in. It is so exciting when a recipe turns out so well. Thankyou so much!

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2005
My husband took these today into work and everyone loved them. A very easy appetizer to prepare. I used thick sliced bacon. It took more than a pound, but looked nice wrapped around the smokies. I also sprayed my baking pan with no-stick cooking spray prior to baking and I had absolutely no messy clean up to fool with. I am going to make these again for Christmas. Thankyou for the recipe!

Boiled Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2006
I make this almost every week. The meat is so tender and flavorful. The meat can be used for salads, casseroles, you name it. The broth can be used for soup, rice, noodles. A very inexpensive yet versatile recipe.
