Creamy Sweet Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
my man hates sweet potatoes (and soup) but he somehow loved this! i had sweet potatoes but no yogurt, so i used sour cream instead (also left out the parsley/cilantro because i didn't have it). while it wasn't as healthy, it was SO delicious! i'd like to try it with yogurt and cilantro someday. i'm still rating this even though i used a substitution because this soup had such a delicious flavor and barely any ratings. i'd never had sweet potato soup before, but i'm glad i tried this! YUM!

Gel's Green Beans and Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2004
I didn't really like this recipe too much. I'm not sure why. It was too gingery for my taste, and as it turns out I'm not a fan of green beans cooked this way. I substituted beef cubes for ground beef. Maybe that was my mistake, because I didnt alter the amount of spices I put in. May suit your tastebuds better than it did mine.

Spiced Sweet Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2004
this is my new favorite type of hummus. the red peppers add a natural sweetness. very tasty. i had a fresh red bell pepper, so i just sauteed that on the stove and used it instead of jarred peppers. this recipe is very tasty, and it's a very nice change from basic hummus.

Green Velvet Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2004
wow, this soup was amazing! my fiance didnt like it as much as i did, but he doesn't like pureed soups much. he did say that the flavor was really good, though. if you like pureed soups, this one is definitely a keeper! i wish i had brought some of my frozen leftovers to work today, as i'm really craving it. the potatoes make this soup surprisingly creamy. i bought some half and half because i really wanted it to be creamy. i didnt use any of it. the soup was perfect just as it was. really easy to make, too! the hardest part is the chopping, but i enjoy chopping vegi's. very healthy soup. i'm SO glad i have leftovers!! this may be my new favorite.

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2002
All I can say is... WOW!! I was looking for a nice bread bowl recipe for the simple fact that I love bread bowls with dip. I found this recipe and tried it one night... my friends and I just sat around eating until they were almost all gone! I actually made 4 larger bowls instead because I like them bigger, and it worked out great. I made these the day after I first made them, too. It's delicious with the "Best Spinach Dip Ever" recipe here. I'm picky about the bread that I eat, and this bread was perfect... I plan on making this recipe again tomorrow!

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2001
WOW!! These are the best pretzels I've ever had! These are even better than any mall or storebought pretzel I've ever had, and my family agrees. The hardest part was getting the dough to be 3 feet long, and I dont think that I ever actually made it to 3 feet, but that was okay ;) . I made these for the first time tonight for part of our New Years Eve stacking, and everyone raved about them. I might make these again tomorrow! They're so good!! It seems that this would be an excellent breadstick recipe as well. This is a *MUST* try!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
Wow, what a great pizza crust recipe! This really is the best pizza crust I've ever made. It's just as simple as all of the others, too. I'm so glad that it is here to share with the rest of us! I used to just deal with the crust of homemade pizza when I ate it... but now I can love it as much as the rest of the pizza! I had to add a considerable amount of flour to make it not so sticky, but that wasnt an issue at all. This is truly one of the best recipes I've come across on the internet. I dont know how to say this enough! This recipe made my dinner meal today a complete success. Thank you so much, Jay, wherever and whoever you are!

A Good Easy Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
Wow! What a simple recipe, with unlimited possibilities! Tonight I was making Chicken Alfredo Pizza, but I wasnt sure how to make the chicken. I wanted it to be quick and easy, and this recipe was my solution! It turned out GREAT! To me (and anyone with any sense!) the quick, easy, and delicious recipes are the keepers... and this one is definitely a keeper! So simple yet delicious :) .

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
I just used this sauce to make Chicken Alfredo Pizza, and it was amazing! This sauce is what made my pizza a total success. My father in law went to a very expensive restaurant earlier today, with very good food. When we had the pizza I made, he said that it was even better than at the restaurant. Again... this sauce made it happen! It's *SO* easy to make! I added just a little bit of flour to make it thicker. I will keep this recipe forever, and pass it on!

Aloo Phujia

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
This recipe is so great! Once I found it, I was making it like every other day, often times just for myself! I usually dont know exactly how much potato I'm putting into the recipe, so I just spice it to taste, and it's perfect. I must say... I do LOVE this recipe!! The only problem is... I dont know how to pronounce the name! I always refer to it as "that yummy potato stuff" rather than mauling the name.

Taco Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
A very flavorful, yummy recipe! I served this at dinner with my in laws, and they all really loved it. I think next time I might just make it without the taco shells, and serve it over tortilla chips. We topped it with sour cream, and it was completely delicious. Next time I think I'll try it with avacado as well! :)

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
This recipe is the closest to the lemon bars my mom used to make, which our family called "Lemon Love Notes". My husband and I are huge fans of lemon bars, and this is a really great, fast, and easy recipe! We baked ours a little longer just because we like our lemon filling to be a bit more cooked. Good recipe, thank you! :)

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
These muffins were a perfect accessory to fruit salad. I dont know about the "crumb" top. It was more of a powder top for me, but maybe I didnt do it right. Next time I make these (and rest assured... there WILL be a next time!), I think I'll just sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar on the top. Everyone loved these muffins. Thank You! :)

Butter Crescents

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
I accidentally overcooked these a little bit (I like mine golden, and they came out "dark golden", to say the least), but they were still nice and soft when warm. These taste best warm, and become pleasantly soft again when re-heated. My husband and I ate more of these rolls for dinner than we did of the main dish!

Angel Biscuit Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2001
I wasnt sure if I was doing it right because it ended up so sticky, so I put the batter in muffin tins, and it worked out great! I used more butter than it called for, but I'm a butter fanatic. These biscuits were very easy to make. *EDIT* Well it's been a while since I first made these, but it's my #1 biscuit recipe. I always use butter instead of shortening because I just dont like shortending. It gives these biscuit rolls an excellent buttery flavor! Wonderful.

Absolute Mexican Cornbread

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2001
This is a very yummy cornbread! It isnt at all dry and tasteless like many other cornbreads out there. I admit... I havent gathered up enough courage to put the whole 1 cup of sugar in! I always chicken out and put 1/2 cup sugar, and it is still SO delicious! Also, I usually end up putting whatever cheese I happen to have into the recipe, and it doesnt seem to affect it negatively at all. Whenever we have mexican food, my mother in law cant help but request this cornbread! She says that she is in love with it, and I dont blame her!! I also made it for my dad, and he was sure to get the recipe from me. He said that it was the best cornbread he'd ever had! This one is a thumbs up in my family, all the way!! Edit (09/23/2005): This is still my favorite cornbread recipe. I made it for work today, and everyone loved it. One of my coworkers even told me that he hates cornbread and has never liked it, but he LOVED this cornbread! That right there says it all. I've yet to come across someone who doesn't love this recipe... and I've been using it for over 4 years now!

Chewiest Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2001
This is truly the chewiest brownie recipe!! As far as I'm concerned, a brownie isnt a brownie if it isnt chewy. I baked the brownies a little longer to make them chewier, and put in a little less cocoa the second time I made these because I dont my brownies as strong as many people do. I've finally found a brownie recipe for my recipe book! Thank You, Kristin!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2001
This was my first try at banana bread, and it turned out absolutely, without a doubt, DELICIOUS! Despite the fact that it's the first banana bread recipe I've tried... I think from now on it's my ONLY banana bread recipe!! I messed up a little bit when I was mixing everything together, but it still came out wonderful (and a forgiving recipe is always a nice thing). This recipe is extremely easy, and a fast clean-up (which is also very nice!). It's a great way to use all those bananas that you *thought* you'd end up eating. If you haven't tried this recipe, you're missing out on something amazing.

Cherry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2001
This is my husband's ABSOLUTE FAVORITE cheesecake recipe. Despite the many cheesecake recipes he has tried, this one "takes the cake"! ;) . It's actually quite a relief that this cheesecake recipe is so popular in our house, because it's probably the easiest recipe out there. Be sure when you make it not to over-beat your mixture, because that might make it too "soupy". We really like raspberry filling on top when we can find it. This is the only cheesecake recipe that has found it's "trophy spot" in my recipe book... it's a DEFINITE keeper! (NOTE: To all those who think that putting less lemon juice in is the answer to a "thicker" filling... NOT TRUE! One time I accidentally forgot to put lemon juice in it, and the filling was soupier than pudding... even after a FULL DAY of chilling! Lemon juice is the key.)

Taco Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2001
My husband and I both LOVE this recipe! We were going to have it on a camping trip, but decided to stay home. The two of us at all of the Taco Soup by ourselves... GLADLY! Our only regret was that our stomachs couldn't comfortably hold as much as we wanted to eat. Very very good recipe. A definite keeper!!
