Award Winning Peaches and Cream Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2013
My husband LOVES this! Says it is his favorite dessert. Same way I make it except I use a small can of peaches and substitute fresh, plus I add a little more peaches than the recipe calls for. We like it very "peachy". I highly recommend trying this!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2013
I made this as is and it's great! I have also cooked the onion and celery in the butter then added the flour and boiled the potatoes in chicken stock(omitting the bouillon) for a deeper flavor. I added some chopped parsley for color. Boiling some diced carrots with the potatoes is also a good addition. I serve it with shredded cheddar cheese on top. I have to make a double batch or there isn't enough!

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2013
A keeper! The lid to my skillet broke so I had too put some extra broth in it. I made it as is and it is good. Second time I added a chopped green pepper so I could get rid of it before it went bad. and omitted the cilantro because I hate it (tastes like dish washing liquid to me). I also threw in a couple of slices of bacon and fished them out when it was done and the family raved. This is good as is and fun to play with!

Hot Tamale Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2012
It's good, worth making again. My husband eats such hot things that unless flames are shooting out his mouth it's "bland" to him. Versatile, you can easily tweak and substitute whatever you want in the meat mixture (adding black beans and such). I have added diced fire-roasted jalapenos to the corn mix before and it was good. My biggest beef with this recipe: spreading the corn mix over the top. UGH! It seems like there isn't enough and when you spread it it has to take the meat mixture with it.

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2012
Yummy! I added a can of cannellini beans to it too. I used the dried pasta because I didn't have the other on hand, just had to add extra water. Still turned out good!

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2012
I have made this as directed and made it using the gravy mix as so many suggested. I personally don't like the gravy mix added, to me it gives it a cheap Banquet frozen dinner taste to it. It is good as is, the only ting I do different is I make a milk gravy with the hamburger instead of the beef broth & omit the ketchup.

Slow Cooker Pizza

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2012
Good, but needed more sauce than stated. I will make again, but in addition to more sauce, will add extra pizza toppings like green peppers, mushrooms and such.

Easy Peach Crisp I

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2012
My little sister used to make this all the time and we LOVE it. Cutting the butter into the cake mix is ideal. As an added spin to this, we like to make a simple cream cheese glaze and drizzle over the top after it has baked.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2012
Not bad. Will omit the cooking sherry next time. I am not a fan of the pungent flavor. Next time will mix onion soup mix with the hamburger and some garlic, then maybe add some sliced mushrooms with the gravy. But is is a good base recipe, but for us was lacking something.

Fresh Tomato Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2012
YUM! I had some other veggies I needed to get rid of (zucchini, fresh mushrooms, fresh spinach and green peppers) so I sliced them up thin and put in there also. I also added the bacon as suggested by others, and for some added flavor I sauteed a couple cloves of garlic and added it. When I told my husband what I was making, he turned his nose up, but when he got the first bite, I had to just about threaten his very existence to prevent him from polishing off the whole pie!

Taco Soup II

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
Not bad. I had some extra green peppers I needed to use so I threw them in there too and it turned out pretty good. I am not a huge taco fan but I still liked it. I added an extra envelope of taco seasoning mix because my husband like more intense flavors, and this was a little to bland for him. He also added hot sauce to his bowl(s) and raved about it. Thought I thought it was good I felt like it was missing something....

Adrienne's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2012
Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the cucumbers do need to be salted first, and it doesn't state to use dill weed or dill seed. but the flavors is good.

Restaurant-Style Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2012
I fixed it according to directions. I found it to be sort of bland. It was easy to doctor though. I added salt to taste, Italian seasoning, diced tomatoes and cannellini beans. Then let it simmer in the crock pot most of the day.

Sunday Gumbo

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
This is a good recipe! Plus it is versatile enough to be tweaked to suit your tastes. I have young children so I had to omit the heat. And I wanted to make it healthier so I used brown rice. Plus, I am a Cajun food freak, so I cooked the veggies with the meat and made a rue with the drippings, and instead of plain diced tomatoes I found Huntz makes fire roasted diced tomatoes, which added even more flavor.

Old German Honey Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
Wonderful "Old World" cookie. Though most people tend to think as this cookie as bland by today's standards. This is a great recipe to get back to the days when our great-great grandmothers made treats. I think this was a comforting taste that wasn't overly sweet! Thank You!!!

Baked Corn

A favorite with all our family. I make it every year, but I have to double the recipe, and I drizzle it with a little honey when it just comes out of the oven to give it a sweet "crust".
