I can't believe it's been almost three months since I've last posted anything here.  *insert shameful look here*  I don't even have a good excuse - no wonderfully exciting story about a three month cruise or dream vacation.  Just life, I guess, which honestly hasn't been a bed of… MORE

It's a beautiful morning and the sun is smiling away out there yet I find myself feeling a little down in the dumps today.  Instead of moping about though (that is just way to easy) I am determined instead to bake the mood away.  It seems like a good cure for this particular… MORE

Here in Canada we celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday and this year I decided to scrap the traditional turkey and go for something completely different.  I flipped through many many recipes and cookbooks searching for a dish that would be spectacular without being too time consuming. … MORE

Confession #5 It is just way too hot to be cranking up the oven for cookies!  We are experiencing a (welcome) heat wave for this time of year and hit record-breaking temps again today.  Yay!  So....no oven for us! I mentioned in my last blog that I cheated (ie...got lazy) and or MORE

Confession #4 Took the easy way out tonight and ordered pizza from a local place for the boys and myself.  I have twinges of guilt because it was just so easy to do at the time yet my fridge is fairly bursting with food that needs cooking.  The worst part is that I had dinner all… MORE

Confession #3   I truly love having friends/family over for informal dinners or BBQ's.  The problem is that I am the type of person who wants everything to be perfect.  I'll spend too much money on all sorts of neat food items, fancy little toothpicks, that sort of… MORE

I try and I try to convince my boys (13 & 8) that broccoli is not evil but they just aren't buying it.  I know this is an age old complaint, lamented by Mothers all over the world.  I also know I am not alone....but when you are trying to coax your children into eating vegetables… MORE

Confession #2   Now that the kids are out the door and off to school I find myself with a few moments to enjoy a cup of coffee and contemplate the upcoming day.  I am fortunate enough to work from my home so I have a lot of freedom with planning my routine.  So with coffee in… MORE

Confession #1 I must admit to having some deep rooted obsession with recipe books and (more recently) culinary magazines.  It started when I was a young teenager - I have a vivid recollection of purchasing a cookbook through school and it seems I was headed happily down a long path… MORE

About Me
I am a single Mom raising two amazing boys who are, thankfully, willing to try out my new recipes! I am a die-hard Food Network fan and have to admit that it is on almost 24/7.
My favorite things to cook
My Mom's supremely nummy lasagna, almost anything of Mexican origin, a good sirloin on the BBQ and my boys favorite - Chicken Satay with peanut sauce.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making Eggs Benedict on Christmas morning while the kids open their stockings. I am also a very big fan of decorating for the holidays and that would include the dinner table. It is little things that can have big impact such as decorating the table with mini gourds and pumpkins for Thanksgiving. It adds a special touch that shows you care.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I tried to make Lobster Bisque. It turned out fantastic and I got rave reviews!
My cooking tragedies
The second time I tried to make Lobster Bisque! I sauteed the lobster shells for the all-important stock just a wee bit too much (ie...burned them) and it ruined the entire soup. What a waste!
