Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2008
This recipe is SO WONDERFUL! (Be advised that this recipe as it stands is for a 9x9 cake not a 9x13 large cake.) I "taste-tested" it this past weekend to see if it was good enough to use at my daughters B-Day party... and OH MY GOSH everyone loved it! It is a dense cake, so if you are looking for light and fluffy, keep looking. But If you are looking for really good 'wedding cake' type of cake... here it is! I put on the "Buttercream icing" from LISKAGIRL on this site and it was really good combo!! One person said the cake with the frosting tasted almost like a really good sugar cookie! But it was not overpowering sweet. I followed other reviewers and added an extra 1/4 cup of milk. I also beat the heck out of every step. MAKE SURE you beat the sugar and the butter for 8-10 minutes!! BUT IT IS SOOOOO WORTH IT!! I couldn't keep away from it!

Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2008
This was really good! I took advise from other reviews and ONLY used Butter. I did NOT use shortening. I also increased the vanilla to 2tsp and reduced the sugar to 3 cups. Although no one else thought so, I thought it was a bit thick, and i think it may have been that my butter was not at room temp ( i had to warm it in the microwave.) When i make this again, i will make sure the icing is warmed properly. Try this recipe! It is really good!

Sloppy Joe Spaghetti

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2007
This is the first time i have felt compelled to write a review. This was awsome! I would have NEVER thought to use Sloppy Joe as the base fore spaghetti sauce! I did have to alter the recipe a bit (becuase I was out of a bunch of stuff) so I used onion powder (out of onion) and added a some italian seasoning (out of bread crumbs) and added some tomato sauce becuase it looked a bit to thick. But it was wonderful. My husband and I don't like spaghetti and rarely ever have it, but this will definatly go into the rotation! GIVE IT A TRY!!

Glenn's Marinated Pork Shoulder

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
Smelled great and tasted fantastic! Baked in the oven for 4 hrs at 275... we made tacos out of it. Yum. UPDATE: We used pork loin instead of sholder and it cooked MUCH faster... if you use loin, cut the time down alot and watch it so it doesn't dry out! Still fantastic!

Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2011
This is fantastic! I followed the recipe almost to a T. I added more veggies (2 lbs red skin potatoes, 2 sticks of celery, 1 lb of the pealed mini carrots). The other change I made was to bake it instead of crock pot it. I cooking sprayed a dutch oven, added the sliced onion, added the floured check roast, and poured the gravy on top. I put that into an over preheated at 375 for 2 hours, then tossed in the veggies and baked it for another 1 hour. I think this is our new "default" pot roast recipe

Asparagus Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
Even though the recipe is quite simple, it is bit time consuming with rolling the bread and whatnot... but SO good!!!! I made these to a T and it was fantastic! (Oh I didnt blanch them because I hate soggy asparagus, so I just wrapped them in a damp paper towel and cooked them in the microwave for about 20 seconds knowing they were going to cook in the oven... and it was perfect!! Not mushy like some reviewers say! )

White Bean Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2008
I thought this was okay. It seemed more like spicy vegetable soup instead of chili. Not bad, but didn't have that thick "chili" feel to is. It was good and healthy, but if you are looking for Chili, this isn't it.

Wowzers!! This was fantastic flavor! No cilantro and used lime juice. This was really really good! Made quac out of the other half of the seasoning mix with 2 avocados! YUMMY! We didn't add salsa to ours on top. I did add some guac to mine and it was even better!

Traditional Indiana Breaded Tenderloin Sandwich

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2011
These are very good! We made them twice once with Panko and once with crushed saltines. We liked the saltines better but think it is because of the increase of salt. Also, make sure you pound them out really thin... they seem to shrink back up so really really pound them!

Jalapeno Popper Cups

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
FANTASTIC!!! I made them as stated except I put them in Tostada Scoops! Recipe for 12 actually made about 30 with the Scoops. Fantastic! I baked them a bit too long at 10 minutes so I will bake them for only 8 minutes next time. Not too too spicy. They are more taste of heat then true heat. Even my daughter had some!

I used a slicer and sliced them thin. Mixed olive oil, paprika, and garlic powder. layed them on foil lined (sprayed with PAM) baking sheet, brushed on light coating of mixture and then sprinkled with Seasoning Salt. Baked at 450 for about 20-25 min. Crispy! Yummy!

Get a Husband Brunswick Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2007
There aren't enough stars to rate this! THIS IS WONDERFUL!!! MY GOODNESS!! It looks intimating, but if i can make it, you can! We ate this up until we were stuffed there were still plenty of left overs. Even my picky 7 year old loves it and wants me to make it again... SOON!! Using others comments this is how i made mine. I cut the original recipe in half and did this (much like the original): 3 chicken breast, 1 lb mild Italian Sausage, 1 lb ground meat, (I let the meet cook chunky instead of making it fine. and while that was cooking boiled the chicken and then cubed it instead of shredding it) when the meats were almost done cooking, added 2 stalks of celery, 1/2 cup onion, to cook for a couple minutes. Then combined the meats and 2 cans of diced tomatoes, 1/2 cup Ketchup, 1/2 cup BBQ sauce, and half a green pepper, dash of hot sauce, salt & pepper. Let that cook covered for 2 hrs on low/med. then added 1 can of creamed corn and 1 can of corn nibbles(drained). let it cook (uncovered) for 45 min. served with cornbread. AWESOME!!!! I WILL DEFIANTLY MAKE THIS AGAIN!!! SOON!!

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
5 Stars isn't enough! You dont even need butter on these babies!! Perfect! Made the dough the night before and refrigerated. I made these into clover rolls. Put them in my bread maker... looked dry so I added more warm water as it began to mix. When dough was finished, rolled it out on counter, then cut and rolled into balls. Sprayed muffin tins with Pam for Baking. Put 3 balls in each muffin tin. Was able to make 24 clover rolls. Tightly wrapped in saran wrap and put in the fridge. Next morning, took out, unwrapped, and set on counter for a hours until I was ready to bake them. They rose nicely on the counter. Baked for 10 minutes. Everyone raved about them! Even fought over the last ones!!! Will make again for sure!!

Firecracker Crackers

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2011
These are fantastic! Didn't have whole wheat crackers on hand, but they turned out great anyway. Suggestion: I took these to work, still in the ziplock bag. NOT the best presentation. No one wanted to even try them at first, but after they did they went like hotcakes. I'd move them to a different package for presentation. Again, these are fantastic.

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
INCREDIBLE!!!! WOW Was this good! I air popped mine then mixed it in a grocery store bag before I baked it. You might want to increase the temp while baking because it seemed like the Carmel wasn't melting until we increased our temp! Everyone loved it! Not way too sweet! Just perfect!
