I am an eclectic cook. I tend to get into ruts and cook the same success recipes over and over. I have been married since 1970 and have two grown daughters. I love travel, cooking, and a really great mystery novel.
My favorite things to cook
Without a doubt, French. White sauces are quick, easy and look like you slaved for hours. I highly recommend using whatever small appliance you can afford to help in your cooking. Slow cookers, rotisseires, grills, electric skillets all work great for me.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every holiday morning starts with Dutch Pancake and some form of meat ( bacon or sausage or pork roll ). Tradition is an important element of family life and now one of my daughters is also getting up a little earlier to make her 2 little boys the same special meal.
My cooking triumphs
Just learning how to boil water was brilliant for me. Now I venture where I never did before and even flambe.
My cooking tragedies
Burnt turkeys. Oh yeah, cookies left baking while we drove almost half way to State College,Pa from New Jersey before realizing what we did. Letting my 12 year old make a pop tart in toaster and be too scared of my reaction to let me know that flames were coming out of the toaster (eventually, the smoke alarm went off). To this day my daughter does not even own a toaster.
