Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2014
I loved this. I made a few changes based on what I had in the pantry (i.e. no bacon or celery and used canned diced chilies instead of fresh chili peppers) but it was fantastic. I wasn't sure of the taste alone, but when I served it over noodles with cheddar cheese and sour cream it was amazing. My parents raved that it was the best chili they ever had, better than my step-dad who makes some good chili. Almost as good as Real Chili in Milwaukee, WI. Don't let the long list of ingredients scare you. The hardest part is browning the meat and chopping the peppers/onion. All the rest of the ingredients you dump in.

1970's French Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2014
OMG this is so good. Exactly what I was looking for. I only changed one thing and that was to add 1/3 c powered sugar to the cream cheese as someone else suggested. It was perfect with fresh strawberries.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2013
OMG so good. I made some changes like others suggested. Added 1 T vanilla, dash of nutmeg, and 1 T cinnamon. You don't need to add corn starch (I made with and without and liked it without better). I only used 6 apples...I don't see how in the world 8 would have fit in the pan unless you have a deep pan. I could eat the whole pie myself and I really never liked apple pie. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Italian Pasta Salad I

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2013
OMG this is sooo good and easy to make. This is a good base recipe and you can add a lot of different things to the salad to personalize it. I added pepperoni, cucumbers, and cheddar cheese. I could eat this every night and it was a big hit at our party.

Oven Roasted Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2013
This is super good! Like others, I used brown sugar instead of splenda and regular vinegar instead of cider vinegar. Also, cook for about 40-45 min. Finally, if you have skin on your chicken either cover with tin foil or flip the chicken half way through to avoid burning the skin. This was soooooo easy to make and super delicious!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2012
Excellent! I added a few things that some other reviewers suggested. I can of stewed tomatoes, used beef broth instead of water, half a bag of frozen peas, and a dash or Worcester sauce. It is just soooooo good.

Brown Family's Favorite Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2011
This is the best pumpkin pie ever. I don't change a thing, but I do leave off the topping (just personal preference).

Pasta Pomodoro

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
This was excellent! A whole package of noodles, however, is way too much unless you double the sauce. I wouldn't change a thing otherwise.

Almost Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2011
This is a good base recipe but needs a lot of changes to be really tasty. 1. I used 1 cup of water and made the rice ahead of time. If you make the rice before, 2 cups of water is way too much. 2. Use 1 large can if diced tomatoes. 3. Use 2 green peppers. 4. Brown the meat in garlic and the onion for more flavor. 5. Add a small can of tomato sauce. With all these changes, it was really good.

Salsa Chicken Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2011
Very good. I made a few changes that others have suggested: added chilies, used half the onion (browned it first), added have a pkg of taco seasoning, added 1/2 t chili pepper. This recipe makes A LOT. Next time I would make half. Pretty good though.

Sweet Potato Enchiladas

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
Pretty good. I felt as if there was something missing, but couldn't put my finger on it. My husband thought it was perfect. I added corn and chilis. I used flour tortillas (next times will try corn for sure and toast them like a previous reviewer suggested). I will also add black beans. You do not need to use 5 sweet potatoes! I wanted to half the recipe and used 3 large potatoes and it was way too much. Ended up making the whole amount of the recipe. Also, like a previous reviewer suggested, I peeled and cut the potatoes and then boiled them. Did make it go quick. This will go in our rotation.

Stuffed Peppers My Way

Great recipe!! Followed almost exactly except I coated the peppers with olive oil like others suggested and added about 5T of tomato sauce as I thought the mixture was too dry. Excellent!

Oatmeal Pancakes II

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2011
Excellent! I made them both blended and not. I prefer the blended slightly more. I didn't have buttermilk so I used milk and lemon juice. It is not a breakfast staple in my house.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Excellent! Every body always loves this when I make it. I don't use fresh ginger and I omit the pepper sauce and it is still wonderful! Otherwise you don't need to change a thing.

Followed the recipe exactly. Came out fine, but I've had better cookies. A bit disappointing given all the rave reviews.

Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2011
Pretty good soup. Like some other reviewers stated, I used a rotisserie chicken, 2 cans cream corn, and rotel. I didn't put any hot sauce in because my husband hates hot, but now I'm kinda regretting it. Also like some other reviewers, it was missing a little something. I don't know if it was the hot sauce or some other spice, but it was lacking "bite." I would make again.

Meatball Nirvana

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
These were okay. My father, who loves meatballs, only had a couple of these. They did not hold together well, didn't have a great consistency (it was too chunky), and didn't have all that great of a taste. I won't try making these again.

Janine's Best Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
Pretty good! I added 1 tsp of vanilla like some others did and added a bit of cinnamon too. The top did start to get pretty dark, which I'm not a big fan of. At 45 min I turned the heat down to 325 and moved it down lower in the oven. Next time I might back at a lower temp earlier.

Grandma's Corn Pudding

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2010
This recipe did not turn out well. It had little to no flavor. It was just a big mush. I only gave it 2 stars as a couple of my dinner guests thought it was okay. I would recommend trying a corn pudding recipe that includes corn muffin mix. That is the recipe I meant to use instead of this one.
