Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2013
Ok..I thought I had found the perfect bread/roll recipe a few weeks ago on here but I was so wrong! THIS is the perfect bread/roll recipe! Hands down! I made as is...except that I made 2 loaves of bread and a pan of 8 HUGE cinnamon rolls. Turned out very light, very moist...the bread AND rolls...I will not be going back to the other recipe. Thanks so much!!

Unbelievable Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2013
I was the baker at a middle school for a few years and made some amazing rolls and have been searching for a good roll recipe since...well, I made these today and they taste exactly like those did! I did not change a thing! I like to pat the dough out slightly and cut it into portions before shaping into rolls. I put them in an oiled 9x13 pan so they'd rise high and they sure did! I made 20 big, fluffy rolls...the only recipe I'll need from now on!

Slow Cooker Tapioca Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2013
Can't believe how quick and easy this was...put it in the crockpot at 5 and had pudding about 8. Beats letting the tapioca soak overnight plus all the extra steps and ingredients. Tasted great too! The only thing I added was about a teaspoon of vanilla. Thanks for the recipe!

Sopapilla Cheesecake Dessert

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2013
I made this recipe exactly as stated a couple of years ago, took it to a reunion, and everyone loved it! Got requests for the recipe. I've made it several times since. Definitely my go-to dessert for something quick and delicious! You can also make fruit toppings to serve on it, but def not necessary. Make sure you use the "good" crescent rolls...not cheap ones or the sheet kind...makes a huge difference in my opinion. Thanks for a great recipe!

California Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2013
Very good change of pace for potato salad! I doubled the dressing and added a little bacon and chives (but it probably didn't need them). Great recipe!!

Spinach and Tortellini Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2013
Excellent recipe! I made it as written, except I used fresh, chopped up spinach, and the dressing . I made the Tuscan dressing on this site, as another reviewer had done. Perfect! Took it to a birthday dinner yesterday and everyone raved about it! I can see where you can put your own touches on this salad also, but I like to make a recipe as is first, if possible. Definitely will be making this a lot!

Fried Okra Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2013
Made this (almost) exactly as stated and took it to a birthday dinner yesterday. Everyone loved it! I say almost because I couldn't find breaded okra, so I breaded thawed okra in about 1 c. cornmeal mixed with 1/2 c. flour and a little salt and pepper then fried till crisp, about 7 or 8 minutes. Perfect! I might add a little cayenne to the dressing next time just to kick it up a little, but it doesn't need any changes at all! Definitely a keeper!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2013
Perfect recipe! I've been using this one for years. I love plain zucchini bread, but it's also excellent with 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries folded into the batter at the end. Freezes VERY well for several months!!

Cream Cake Dessert

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
I have been making this cake for several years. We have always called it Twinkie Cake. I also make it with chocolate cake mix, calling it Susie Q Cake. Cherry chip cake mix makes another wonderful cake (but no name). Very versatile recipe! The one tip I do have is to make sure you whisk the milk into the flour slowly, keeping it smooth. Then keep it stirred and cooking on med/low while thickening, as to not cause lumps.

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2011
This is possibly one of THE best desserts I've ever eaten! Everyone who tasted it said the same thing. Very simple and quick to put together. I made it exactly as stated, but baked it for about 40-45 minutes to get it done in the middle. I think I'll experiment with swirling some raspberry or strawberry jam into the filling before putting on the top crust next time, just to chage it up a bit, even though it's perfect just the way it is. Definitely my new favorite go-to dessert!

Hershey's ® 'Perfectly Chocolate' Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
Been making this recipe for years. Perfect every time! Batter will be runny, but don't change a thing and you'll have a moist, perfectly chocolate cake every time! This chocolate icing is excellent also! Just the right amount of chocolate in both!

Cream Filled Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
I've made alot of cupcakes, but I wasn't pleased with the results of this one at all. I made it just as written...wanted to try that first. Not much flavor at all to the cupcake itself..and the filling was just ok. Should've stuck with the traditional Hershey's chocolate cake recipe. Sorry.

Pumpkin Apple Streusel Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2010
VERY good muffins! Great muffin texture, wonderful flavor and very moist! I made the muffin part exactly as printed. But for the streusel, I substituted brown sugar for the white sugar, added about 1/4 c. chopped pecans, and used about 1 1/2 times the amount of ingredients the streusel called for. Perfect!! Thanks for a great recipe!

Mashed Potato Layer Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2010
Very nice change in place of regular mashed potatoes. Simple recipe, but quite tasty! Only change was that I doubled the amount of cheese called for. Otherwise perfect! I made this a few hours ahead when I had extra time and it baked up great! Thanks for the recipe!

Chicken Marsala Florentine

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
Really good recipe! We have tried a few other Chicken Marsala recipes, but none of them were this good. I made 3 small changes that made the dish perfect for us: I added about 1 teaspoon minced garlic with the mushrooms. I stirred in about 1/2 c. cream when I added the spinach (makes it smooth, creamy and richer). And I also put the chicken back into the gravy to simmer once the mushrooms were tender, for about 15 minutes. Our only Chicken Marsala recipe from now on!

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Perfect! Very moist and flavorful bread. Made exactly as stated, except for using frozen blueberries and 2 regular size loaf pans. I have made ALOT of zucchini bread and this is one of the very best recipes I've used! Wonderful! Wouldn't change the recipe at all!

Streusel Topped Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2009
MMMM!!! I made these this morning, and what a good muffin! Very easy to make. Made 2 simple changes: added 2 T. more milk, and used frozen blueberries. Other than that, followed to a T! Very moist and great muffin texture! Will definitely be my only recipe for muffins from now on!

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2008
MMMM!!! Very tasty! Very small change I made was to sprinkle garlic powder on before wrapping with bacon. Grilled on medium heat about 10 minutes on each side, starting with cut side down so that the cream cheese didn't all melt out. Bacon cooked up nice. Peppers were done just right. Extremely quick and easy! Good recipe!
