Curry Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
This soup is ridiculously good. I made this to use up some unused Christmas dinner ingredients, and I think it's going to be replacing my current pumpkin soup recipe! I made a few changes: I added one chopped yellow onion, and about 2 tablespoons of minced garlic to the curry saute, and I replaced the vegetable stock with chicken stock and the cream with evaporated milk because I had it on hand and wanted to use it up. I'm sure this soup is great without any changes though! I also added a pinch of ginger. Served it with some warm crusty popovers. Delicious! Thanks so much for the recipe!

Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2005
Super yummy and super easy. I added a shake or two each of ginger and nutmeg; not enough to be able to taste either spice, but just enough to intensify the flavor of the soup. I also added the cream to taste, which was about half of the listed amount. This soup would be excellent for company. I'll make this one again; thanks for the recipe!

WWII Oatmeal Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2006
These are SOOOO good!!! They're so soft and....fluffy! I replaced my shortening with butter and added 1/2t each of cloves and cinnamon, but kept everything else the same. This is going to replace my current oatmeal cookie recipe. Thanks so much!!

Eggplant Croquettes

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2005
Weird and delicious! These would make good appetizers for a party. We ate ours as burgers like another reviewer suggested here, and they were great that way. I had some jarred red peppers on hand from another recipe, and I chopped a bit up and threw them in the mix, and they complimented this recipe really well. Also added alot more spices, a few shakes of garlic salt, basil, and italian seasonings, and seasoned the patties with garlic pepper while I was frying. Versatile recipe, we'll make this again! Thanks!

Greek Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2005
YUMMY!!!! "Take 'em out to share with the neighbors" good. I've had cookies like this recipe that involve stuffing the cookies with pitted dates; looking for that recipe was what brought me to this one. I didn't wait for my cookies to cool completely before rolling them in the powdered sugar, no harm done. Those little cookies positively melt in your mouth when they're still hot from the oven.:)

Macadamia-Crusted Sea Bass with Mango Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2005
Delicious recipe! I didn't change anything except the type of fish I used. I used mahi mahi because certain kinds of sea bass have been terribly overfished due to irresponsible fishing methods. There are many excellent alternatives to sea bass (Chilean sea bass has been particularly overfished) that are more known for sustainable fishing practices. Mahi mahi and pacific halibut both have wonderful textures to complement this dish. Thanks for the recipe, I'll be making it again for sure!

Apricot Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
This is great! I love the lentil-apricot combo. Next time though, I think I might chop up the apricots a little more so I can have them more dispersed throughout the soup. I served this with the Blueberry Cornmeal muffins also on this website, and I thought the two recipes went well together. Added a 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper and a couple shakes extra of the cumin and thyme. As leftovers, this soup is delicious with some shredded cheddar cheese sprinkled on top! Thanks for the recipe!

Spicy African Yam Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2006
Sooo good!! I pureed the soup like some of the other reviewers did, and then added the peanut butter, rice, and salsa. I think the presentation is very nice that way. Also added a couple shakes each of ginger and paprika. It's great that such a rich tasting soup can be so healthy! We'll definitely be having this one on a regular basis. Thanks so much for the recipe!

Carrot Cashew Quiche

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2007
After reading the other reviews here, I was thinking that maybe these flavors were going to be too weird for us in a quiche, but we totally loved this. It got even better the next day as well. Other than lightly chopping up the carrots and cashews in a food processor, I didn't change a thing. I served this with the avocado quick bread also on this website. A great brunch or light lunch dish and we thought delicious either hot or cold. Thanks for the recipe!

Cinnamon and Lime Chicken Fajitas

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2005
Amazing!!!! So deliciously different. If I could give this one 10 stars, I would. I didn't change anything except an additional tablespoon of jalapenos, and a tablespoon or two of finely chopped cilantro to the skillet mixture. I LOVED the cinnamon, it blended perfectly in the recipe. Will make again and again, I'm sure!

Yellow Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2005
The recipe came out a little bit eggy for me, but the white wine was a nice touch for a squash casserole; I liked that combination. It also improved as leftovers, which is an additional plus. Very easy. Thanks for the recipe!

Zing-a-Ding-Ding Spaghetti with Albacore Tuna

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2005
I made this recipe because I happened to have all the ingredients on hand and was in a pinch to make dinner. Overall, I wasn't too impressed. It wasn't bad....it's just that the individual flavors didn't combine well in the dish. Probably won't make this again. Sorry!

The Best Artichoke Chicken Buffet

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2005
This was not a favorite with us. The flavor was pretty good, but the texture was mushy and a little unappealing. I didn't add the carrots because I thought they would be a strange flavor to add to this kind of casserole, but I can't imagine that they would have made a huge difference in the turnout. Probably won't make this again. Thanks anyway, though!

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
Delicious. Like others here, I added 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and I also added 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, because hey--when has banana bread not benefited from cinnamon? It came out darker than my usual banana bread recipe, but so, so moist, and it kept its crispy crust after refrigeration! Double bonus!

Smokin' Scovilles Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2006
Wow!! What a great recipe! This would be great for a Superbowl party. Or any cold day for that matter.:P After having some without any additions, try it Frito Pie style with a dallop of sour cream, some Mexican cheese mix, and some fritos tossed in. Delicious! Thanks so much for this recipe!!

Amaretto Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2006
Pretty good! I loved how the amaretto blended in with the other flavors. My sauce was a little thin, so I added a bit of cornstarch while I was whisking to help thicken it up...I think that helped. This dish went great over a bed of angel hair tossed with a little ground pepper. Thanks!

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2005
Nice recipe. I served it with the mashed sweet potatoes on this website as a side, and they compliment each other nicely. I think next time I'll mix just a tiny bit of olive oil into the dry mixture- not enough to make it wet or soggy, but just to get the dry stuff to hold together on the fish a little better. Will make this again. Thanks for the recipe, Christine!

Potato Chip Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2005
Good--I thought it was a little bland, but the boyfriend loved it, so I'll probably be making it again. I made it as is, but added a hefty dose of garlic pepper while I was mixing everything together, and also sauteed my chicken with a splash of white wine to boost the flavor.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2011
Made these for a party, and they were perfect! I didn't change anything, but next time I make these, I might replace the teaspoon of vanilla extract with almond extract or orange extract, for some variety. Thank you for the recipe!

Indian Dahl with Spinach

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2006
I'm on an Indian food kick, and trying to learn how to reproduce it for myself at home. This recipe was really good....but seemed to be missing something--a kick. I added a good amount of salt to mine; I would suggest doubling the amount called for. I also used frozen spinach and reserved the water from thawing it to boil with my lentils. That probably added both to the nutrition count and the flavor. I'll probably make this one again, and do some experimentation with it!
