World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2010
Made this tonight. I used fresh basil and parsley. I also used cottage cheese. I drained the cottage cheese a little so that the lasagna would be runny. I added some nutmeg to the cottage cheese. I also doubled all the spices. I made three layers as well. I didn't cook my noodles, I soaked them in hot water for about 20 minutes. It was devored up so fast I didn't have time to sit down with my plate. Great recipe.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2010
I have made this pie several times, but it has been awhile since I made it last. Until tonight. I followed some of the others suggestions. I added vanilla 1 tablespoon, 1/2 tsp of nutmeg and I made a mistake and added 1 tablespoon of cinnamon instead of 1 tsp. But I went ahead and tried it. I also added 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. I didn't add flour because I forgot until it was to late to add it. I then poured a little over half of the sauce over the apples (used 5 granny smith). Covered with the top crust. I just cut some holes in the top crust. I poured the remaining sauce over the crust and spread it a little with a brush. I baked it at 350 for one hour. Let it cool to just slightly warm. It wasn't runny and held together nicely. I will add a little more sugar next time though....the apples were a little tart, but I love granny smith so it doesn't bother me. Maybe I'll toss the apples with some sugar next time to add a little more sweetness. But all around good pie. Thanks for the recipe and suggestions.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2010
I'm rating this recipes high because it is a great recipe. But I did change mine up. I was looking for a great corn chowder recipe and wanted to make it great. This recipe had great reviews and had all the making for a great chowder. So I followed the recipe except I added two cans creamed corn, about 1 1/2 cups of frozen corn and instead of milk I used 2 cans of evap. milk. I also added some extra spices, garlic, thyme and a pinch of nutmeg. I thickened it up with cornstarch, my family likes it thick. Yummy stuff.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2010
I made these for breakfast this morning and my family loved them. I doubled the recipe and used 1 cup white flour, 1 cup whole wheat, I also added some vanilla to the milk mixture. After mixing I did as other suggested and let it sit for about a half hour before starting to cook. They were light, fluffy and had a wonderful texture. We topped with strawberries, blueberries, whip cream and homemade chocolate sauce. Yummy! I want to make them even more healthy so I will try using all whole wheat as well as use applesauce in place of the butter next time. I will update when I have. Thanks for a great recipe and all the great reviews.

Dash's Donair

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2010
We just had this for dinner and we weren't disappointed. The meat turned out really yummy and I have always wondered how they made the sauce. Now I know. My sauce was a little on the thin side so I will have to make some adjustments there next time. I doubled this recipe thinking I could freeze the left over for another night. Yea right. My husband and my daughter (who doesn't like Donair, but love these) had seconds. Even my 3 yr old loved this and asked for more. Great recipe. Thanks for sharing Dashriprock.

Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
I tried this recipe this evening and wow was it good. I could taste the vinger a bit more then anything else, but it was mild. So I will tweak it a little next time by using a mix of vingers. I did taste it before using it on my steaks and it was a little strong so I did add about a T of brown sugar to take a bit of the tang down. Maybe I'll add a little more next time. This is a keeper though and I will use it again on more cuts of meat

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
I made these tonight using mini red potatoes. I did as other reviewers suggested and doubled the sauce and rebasted them half way through baking. I found with the minis they baked a lot quicker. My family liked them except my 3 yr old. All he said was Yuck! But the rest of us liked them enough to add them to our list of keep recipes.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
I made two double batches of this last night for my husband to take to work for his employees. They were a hit. I followed a few suggestions from other reviews like adding another egg to the double batch for a total of 3 eggs. I did use butter and not the oil others have suggested. I also don't know for sure how many bananas as I had two big bags of frozen that I have been collecting for awhile now. I would say I used 6 to 8 bananas per double batch. I put the bananas in a bowl by themselves and mixed them up with a fork leaving chunks. I put all the dry ingredients in a bowl and made a well in middle. Then mixed the eggs, sugar (1 cup brown, 1/2 cup white - remember this is for a double batch) and the butter in my stand mixer. Then I added the butter mixture and bananas to the dry ingredients and stired with a wooden spoon very carefully and only until the dry ingredients were just moist. Then I used a ice cream scoop and filled the jumbo muffin liners almost to the top. Then added a small amount of the crumble topping. Also the topping. I made one double batch and I still have some left over after 22 jumbo muffins. I'm making blueberry ones today for tomorrow and will use the left over topping on those. Note: I baked the first batch at 325 finding that the muffins didn't rise up much and took about 40 mins to cook. So I upped the temp to 350 for the second batch and got a much better result. I found that for jumbos filled to the top took about 30 to 35 mins.

Heavenly White Cake

Reviewed: May 9, 2009
I just made this cake and I followed the suggestions in the reviews. I wasn't totally awful, but it wasn't anywhere near great. It turned out really dense, almost to dense. I don't think the almond extract helped the flavor of this cake either. I wouldn't add it. I might try making this cake again, but I will most certainly change somethings.

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2009
Love this recipes. I always double it and make two. One to eat and one to freeze for a busy night. I just take it out of the freezer the night before and put it in the fridge. Then pop it into the over at 350 and let it warm through...usually takes 30 to 40 mins.

My family loves this every time I make it. I have used the dough in the recipes for the dumplings, but I have also used fridge biscuits too and it was great both ways.

Marinated Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2006
I made this tonight and my family loved it. My husband liked it so much that everytime he took a bite he would give a little moan...hehe. I poured the sauce over the meat after it was done cooking. Next time I'll double the sauce so we have extra to dip the meat in. It was really good. Thanks for the recipes.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2005
I just made this cookie dough. So, far I love the texture and I'm not sure why others had such a hard time with it being sticky, but mine was really nice to work with. I was able to scoop it up into my hands and form into 4 balls, wrapped and put them in the freezer...waiting 30 mins then I'll start baking them and finish this review. I'm loving it so far :) Yummy! They turned out great! The dough was a dream to work with. Thanks!
