Ham and Cheese Omelet Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2005
I made this for dinner last night, and my boyfriend and I loved it. However, unless you like things pretty bland, I would consider this a base recipe to be added to. I used sharp cheddar cheese and added some scallions. Next time I make it, I think I will add a little Pepper Jack cheese, some bell pepper and onion, and maybe even some diced tomatoes or salsa. I can't wait!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: May 17, 2007
I made this the other day, and everyone thought it was pretty good...just not the best. I followed the recipe, but cut the salt way down. I also let it sit overnight in the fridge to meld, which did add a lot to the flavor. Still, my daughter said it was good, but said she preferred my normal lasagna recipe. My boyfriend thought it was decent the first day, but when he had it for lunch the next day, he upgraded his opinion to "very good." I will probably make this one again, though, and add some fresh basil and oregano.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2007
I made this dough with my 10yo daughter for lunch today, and it was excellent. It was also extremely easy. I used olive oil instead of vegetable, let the dough sit for 40 minutes, and added Italian seasoning (after spreading on the pan). Then I baked the dough for 10 minutes, topped it and baked for about 15 more. I really thought it was going to turn out terrible, but it was terrific! My daughter wants me to make it again tomorrow!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2008
I saw this recipe this morning and decided to make it as a Valentine's Day treat for my family this afternoon. They turned out really great. Not the best cookie I have ever had, but certainly delicious. I followed earlier reviews and added a 1/2 tsp salt, and also I used Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder. They were a hit!

Ruben's Garlic Grill Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
Just made this baste tonight when the BF and I realized we had some chicken and not too much else. It is absolutely delicious! I added about two Tbs of Worcestershire sauce, omitted the cayenne pepper, but our pepper mill is filled with a mix of white, black and red pepper. Very, very good! Will make again, probably in a day or two!

Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
Very good! I just made these- in fact, I have some baking right now! Yummy! DD, BF and I all thought they were great. I used choclate pudding mix as that is what I had. Also, I did not measure the chocloate chips out- I just put the whole dang bag in. Very yummy!

Root Beer Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
This recipe is awesome! I let the chops sit in the root beer for about 6 hours. WARNING- Do not make if you don't love good food! EDIT- I thought I should add I let the chops marinate for 6 hours because that is the amount of time I had. Defintely will do it for longer next time. Also, I used a charcoal grill, which lends a nice flavor in my opinion. In addition, my pepper mill is filled with a combo of black, white and red pepper corns, which is a wonderful combo that adds another flavor dynamic. Finally, I used habanero hot sauce (Big Ben's BBQ brand- which I highly recommend), instead of chipotle flavored. Very tasty. A tip of my hat to you Ken!

Old Fashioned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2010
This is really good. It is even better if you can let it sit for awhile- like over night. I have never made potatoes this way- I mean boiling them whole and then peeling and chopping- but it worked very well. The only thing I did differently was I added four eggs (otherwise one little lonely egg would have been left). BF said it was one of the best potato salads he has ever had. Thanks for the recipe!

Best No-Bake Cheesecake

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2010
My BF made this cheesecake for me as a surprise for my birthday. He had never even heard of a spring form pan before! He followed the recipe exactly, and it was awesome. Everyone who I was kind enough to share a slice with loved it. Thanks for sharing the recipe :)

Lepp's Marathon of Love

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2011
I have made this many times and it always hits the spot! Just when you think there aren't going to be any leftovers, you can dig deep into the cupboards and find more to add. Sometimes I add a shoulder to lean/cry on to make it extra special. Great recipe RNG- thanks for sharing it! Strong hugs and much love to the Lepp family!

Angels on Horseback

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2011
I don't eat oysters, so this review is based on my father, boyfriend and boyfriend's son reactions- they loved them! A big success- they were gone as soon as the picture was taken. I cooked the bacon on a griddle first, until it was a bit cooked, but still pliable (I was afraid the oysters would be over done or the bacon would be raw without precooking it a bit). Also, I did not measure out the spices, I just sprinkled on what I thought was a good amount. Some of the bigger oysters took longer to cook than the smaller ones, so they had to be put back in the oven for a couple more minutes. Overall, everyone was happy and gave it two thumbs up!

Chocolate-Dipped Peppermint Bark

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
I gave this 5 stars despite hating this recipe....because I only hate it since I can NOT stop eating it!!! It is sooooo good! I followed the recipe exactly. I have to say, I got some aggression out while smashing the candy to smithereens, which was awesome. I used a hammer. I highly suggest that method. Also, I didn't bother with the measurements of the pans. While helpful as a guide, let's face it, this isn't meant to be a pristine, uniform candy. It is like broken glass...pretty in its own right, but who cares about particulars? So, Daughter and I broke it up and tasted it to make sure it warranted the melted milk chocolate step...yep, you can stop right there. Delicious! But, take it to the next level and dip it in the chocolate?!!! Oh my! Absolutely wonderful. Too bad for everyone else as it will likely be gone before they try it. Thanks for sharing :)

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: May 13, 2012
I made these for Mother's Day, and they were a hit! I made them last night, let them cool completely, covered them and popped them in the fridge. My mom, daughter and I all loved them. So much so that my 15 year old daughter passed by the pizza, wings AND cheesecake and ate only a plateful of these brownies!!! I followed the recipe exactly, except I did saute the onion to soften it, and I added a bit more cheese, since a little cheese is good, but more is better! I can see how this recipe will be fun to play around with, but it truly is 5 stars as written. My boyfriend and my dad were lucky there were a couple left after our girls day!!! Thanks for the fabulous recipe...it will be a staple in my home :) P.S. I took them out of the fridge and let let them come to room temperature...yum! But then I heated them for a few seconds in the microwave, and they were OMG YUM!!!

Banana Cupcakes

Reviewed: May 20, 2012
I have been craving banana baked goods, so when my daughter decided she wanted to bake cupcakes tonight for her grandma, we chose this recipe. We followed it exactly, and OMG they are incredibly scrumptious!!! We split one to determine whether we wanted to frost them. They are awesome without frosting, But we went ahead and put chocolate frosting on them. Wow- out of this world good!!! Thanks for the great recipe- I will be making these again and again!

Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2012
I made this today because I had some bananas to use up, and no milk or eggs. It is very, very tasty and surprisingly moist. I followed the recipe exactly, except I did add some chocolate chips because I happened to have an open package I needed to do something with. I have no doubt it would be just as delicious without them. Great recipe :) UPDATE: I have now made this recipe 2 more times. I wanted to add chocolate chips, but was out of them. So, I melted down some Godiva chocolate almond truffles for one loaf, and chocolate peanut butter truffles for the other. In both cases, I added about a tablespoon of milk to the batter to make it a tad looser, and then folded the melted chocolate in. Like before, I found I required an additional 5 minutes baking time. All three times I have made this bread it has been excellent. If you like chocolate, I highly recommend playing around with your favorite brands/flavors- so, SO good :)

Lemon Yogurt Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2012
This made more than 12 muffins for me- I got the 12 plus 8 minis. I should have checked them sooner, as 20 minutes was a tad too long- but luckily I like them that way! And the moistness still shined through :) The only thing I did differently was I used orange zest because I had no lemons. Also the yogurt I used was Greek (which is awesome). I still haven't completely made up my mind about the topping...I like it well enough, but I almost think I would like them better without it. Either way, these are very, very good! Thanks for the recipe- I will be using it often to get my lemon fix :) ***UPDATE*** First, I should clarify that I baked the big muffins for 20 minutes- not the minis! Anyways, I wrote this review after trying a muffin right after adding the topping. I had one just now, and it is absolutely rocking with the topping! I guess giving it some time to soak in is the key! YUM!

Pastry Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
I made this today to incorporate into a trifle. It was very simple to make, quick and delicious. Like other reviewers have said, I tasted it before refrigerating it, and it was very difficult to not just grab a spoon and have at it! However, willpower prevailed, and now it is layered with chunks of chocolate donuts, fresh strawberries, chocolate pudding and Cool Whip in a most delightful and incredibly tasty dessert :)

Zucchini-Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2012
Well, these are just plain awesome! I followed the recipe exactly, only I added more chocolate chips. At least, I assume I did- when it comes to chocolate chips, my measuring cups need not apply! I made these into mini muffins (I am out of cupcake liners, and if you could see the sad state my ancient, but much loved, regular sized muffin tins are in, you would know why I am hesitant to bake in them whilst they are naked!)...and they took about 12 minutes to get that lovely brown color. Very moist, very delicious, and I thank you for the recipe...I am sure it will be a usual suspect in my recipe box :)

Dog Treats I

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2012
I have made this before (and thought I reviewed it, but I guess not), and my dogs love it! I have tried it as written, and have changed it up by using chicken bouillon and mozzarella cheese. But never have the "pupper-azzi" gone quite so crazy for them as they did over the batch I made today- I had some roasted pumpkin leftover, so on a whim I subbed the pumpkin in for the milk. I wasn't sure if the flavors would work, but all three of my dogs are thrilled with the results. (Of course they have been known to snack from the kitty litter box, so their tastes may not be as discerning as some ;)). Any way I have made these, they have been a success, and they will be going out in my holiday gift baskets to my friends and family with dogs this year. Thanks for a terrific recipe :)

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
This is quite yummy! I added some cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice for some extra flavor, and some chocolate chips for good measure :) I had a situation in which one more banana was going to be too much...but I also didn't want one leftover super ripe banana, so I went ahead and added it. Therefore, I found I needed to bake it a little longer, and also drop the temp of the oven to 300 in order to finish the inside without burning the outside. The result is a super banana-y and moist bread, which is great served warm with a nice cup of coffee or tea :)
