Sarah's Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2010
other than doubling this recipe, I didn't change anything or amounts, but i did add some grated ramano cheese at the end. I really liked this a lot. wait, I guess I did change something..I used brown rice instead of white which increased the cooking time by another 25 mins. or so, but the taste was fantastic. I will be making this again and can't wait to have left-overs for lunch!

Drop Biscuits and Gravy

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2010
This was fantastic. As it happens, I have never made biscuits ever before because I do not like them, at least the ones from cans! So when my 20yr. old son requested biscuits & gravy for his B-day dinner, I thought oh my, well this will be interesting. so to allrecipes i go and this is the one i settled on. the only changes i made was to double the gravy, double the biscuits and added dried sage to gravy. to my delight and the delight of the whole family, this was a hit and very delicious. gravy rocked and can't wait to make it for chicken fried steaks! even at age 44 i find if i didn't like something my whole life, just try it again homemade and i may be surprised!

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2010
There are so many reviews for this crust I know, but I just had to share mine as well! I've been trying to make a great pie crust for about 25 yrs. I finally gave up and started using the Pillsbury ones and liked them ok, but was making a peach pie like the one i had picked up fresh from my local farmers market and wanted to try my hand at a homemade crust again. instead of crisco like many others, i used butter and added 2 tsp. of sugar, other than that oh and doubling the recipe i didn't change a thing. I was a little unsure of what 1 crust meant, enough for 1 whole pie or just 1 bottom crust, thank goodness 1 review in there gave a recipe for doubling it which i did and needed for a double crust pie. So, my entire family said this was better than they've ever eaten anywhere ever and I agree. I told my son, i wanted to make this and just eat it plain without filling it's that good, and he agreed! I am going to make this for my entire family for the 4th of july week at the coast. I will never again try another recipe. it did stick a little when rolling out, but i can live with that! oh man is it good! please try this before any others, you won't be disappointed!

Shrimp Lemon Pepper Linguini

Reviewed: May 23, 2010
I just have to start by saying that I love it when a recipe with such few ingredients and little prep and cook time comes out tasting so elegant and delicious! my 11yr. old son who loves to know what's for dinner and if i got it off allrecipes and how many stars it had said this. "Mom, this is the BEST pasta I've ever had" Mom: " gee that's odd since we're Italian & eat a ton of pasta". Son: " on a scale of 1 to 5 when you are rating this tonight, i give it at least a 20" So there you go, and i'm just finishing mine up and writing this before i forget. I will serve this to guests for many reasons but mostly because it's easy, and yummy. i can have this on a plate fast and talk with my company the rest of the time which is nice when entertaining!

Cedar Plank-Grilled Salmon with Garlic, Lemon and Dill

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
this was out of this world. My 11yr. old son caught a 15lb. spring salmon and made this with part of it. the whole family thought this was one of the best recipes I've made to date with salmon and I've made A LOT!! actually made this about 3 weeks ago and am just now reviewing it because i needed to look it up because i'm making it again tonight with the rest of the fish! I almost never have fresh dill on hand and did then, but not tonight so will try with dried and i'm sure it won't be the same so if it's really a big taste difference i will update this and let you all know!

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2010
Really delicious!! so easy to make, it's a fast weeknight meal, but taste so darn good. again, probably not super figure friendly but once in awhile it's fine. i'm sure you could sub lo fat or fat free cream cheese but i never do cause i'm a nut for the full flavor of dishes!! that's simply my take though! will make this again..oh and i used some left over rotisserie chicken i had from costco which helped with time on this as well.

Halibut with Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2010
This was delicious. My whole family loved this dish. it is a bit rich and makes you feel a bit guilty about adding so much fat to healthy fish! instead of regular breadcrumbs, i used the Panko and it was fantastic. I too put that on top last so that when fish was done cooking, i put under broiler for a few mins. to crisp it up. will make again. oh and the family loved dipping the fish in the "extra" reserved sauce! This would probably be good with cod or tilapia too.

Perfect Apple Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2010
made granny opals and this pie, and really loved this one! granny opals isn't bad but you have to like the caramel type sauce in the pie which i'm not a fan of. when I made this the other night it was gone in no time! making another one in a few minutes and i use Pillbury ready made crusts which are simply amazing for box crusts!

Amish Yumazuti

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
This was really good. I didn't have any celery so I used celery salt and doubled the tomatoes and soup. I also mixed the soup and tomato mixture together then layered. added more cheese then called for as well. Also, I had some cream cheese so I put that on both layers as well. this would be super good with mozzerella cheese! really creamy and good!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
3 out of 3 of us rated this 5 stars! Put this together in 15 mins. and when we ate it, it tasted like it could have taken hours to make. I left everything exactly as written and wanted to make that homemade taco seasoning that the reviewer said but i just didn't have the time. after dishing this up, i put crunched up tortilla chips in, shredded extra sharp cheddar and a big dollop of sour cream. Made a batch of corn bread and we were in heaven. Having for lunch today! will make this often and use the beer, it's wonderful!

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
ok, this was amazing! Made this Sunday for my sons Birthday and the whole family loved it. even the kids were chowing on this. made as written but think i added a touch more green chilies and also baked in oven instead of microwave. used the small baguette breads that I broiled in oven for a few minutes and it was really the best for this dip. This is now going to be at all gatherings from here on out and so quick and easy to make!

Red Velvet Cake I

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
Made this with the changes that were most noted in reviews. added 4tbls. cocoa powder 1/2 regular 1/2 dark choc. Yummy! did the oil and more sugar. added full 2oz. of red color and it was rather dark, next time i'll use maybe 1oz or 1 1/2oz. the cake was delicious as was the frosting! my 11yr. old son and i made this for his Birthday party for the family and they all loved it as well..only a few pieces left over which isn't usually the case!

Pork and Green Chile Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
This was so fantastic! I had about a half of a pork loin roast i had made for dinner one night and decided to use it up a little differently this time. Glad I found this recipe! instead of brown instant rice I used my regular jasmine and since I didn't have any black beans on hand, used 2 cans of white beans and 2 cans of diced tomatoes so that the casserole would be more moist. used a mexican blend of shredded cheese as well and boy did our entire family really dig this dish!! we had it for left=overs at least twice which is rare in this house! Thanks and I WILL make this again!

Tomato Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
This was delicious! I had two chicken breasts I needed to use and needed to make a quick dinner. I didn't have pasta sauce but opened a can of stewed tomatoes and added all the italian seasonings and garlic etc. to beef it up. I also used some shredded mozzarella cheese for the top. I browned the chicken put them on the bed of sauce and baked for about 20 mins. then added the cheese on top and baked another 10 mins. fantastic dinner, hubby and I loved it.

This was delicious. I don't think I've ever made Cordon Bleu before and glad I tried it! I made with seasoned bread crumbs and my chicken breasts were so stuffed toothpicks couldn't hold them together! baked after browning in hot skillet to finish cooking and made the sauce that another recipe had with crm of chicken soup & sour cream in it and it was wonderful with the chicken..loved it for lunch the next day! will make this again for sure!

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
omg was this the bomb! Made this one night because it sounded easy, fast and with ingredients on hand and am I ever glad I did. I used chicken breasts and didn't make them into kabobs but kept the rest as is. So, between me, hubby and 10 yr. old son, we all loved this marinade so much! I seriously will make this often and that's saying a lot since we all know how many recipes are out there for chicken. The BEST flavor that you literally taste on the meat...mmmm mmm so good!thanks for sharing!

Baked Zucchini Chips

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
I thought the concept of these were fabulous and when I tasted them hot out of the oven, I loved them but after setting out for a few minutes and needing to be re-heated in microwave, not so great. My son liked the first one then, bailed out after that and quit eating them! The key is the hot oven to crisp them up and I also added more cheese than called for b/c we love our cheese in any form. All and all not bad but like other's have said, should be served immediately after baking oh and it was very quick which is a plus!!
