About this Cook
I love to re-visit the old kitchen arts, I.E.- Making sausage, cheese, wine, pickles, Jellies, and all the stuff people these days are too lazy to do. I get a kick out of it, and have MASTERED bread!!
My favorite things to cook
I love to re-visit the old kitchen arts, I.E.- Making sausage, cheese, wine, pickles, Jellies, and all the stuff people these days are too lazy to do. I get a kick out of it, and have MASTERED bread!! I really love getting deals on ripe produce and pickling and canning "on the cheap"!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Scottish trifle Shortbread at Thanksgiving,Christmas, Easter.
My cooking triumphs
Teaching myself to cook a beef heart and have it come out better than deli roast beef !! Learning to bake bread without a recipe! Perfect Pitas better than the store... recipe from this site (peppys pita)pictured above.
My cooking tragedies
My friends cat jumped up on the sink and ate the breast out of our Thanksgiving turkey while it was thawing in a coldwater bath. We woke up to a half eaten turkey Thanksgiving morning and all the stores were closed in the small town we were in!

Homemade Refrigerator Pickles
I had SOooo much fun with this recipe!! the taste is awesome ( I added pickling spice to a couple jars) and the recipe is SO versatile!!! I got 7 lbs of gherkin cukes at my market about a day before they were too ripe, got them for $2.00 and played for a 1/2 hour in the kitchen and got - pickles w/peppers, w/vidallia onions, and then anything else that needed to get used up. On the "chunkier" pickles I set the jars in simmering water for about 5 minutes or so and thay were awesome just 2 days later.

Peppy's Pita Bread
This is a definate 5!!! Now one of my "standby favorites". If you use one tblsp FRESH yeast and be SURE the oven is well pre-heated they will all puff up. Putting them in a plastic ziploc makes them even chewy-er!! Let cool a bit in paper sack first, till warm to touch. This one is a keeper!!

Basic Cheese Polenta
I have ALSO fallen in love with this simple and GOUMET recipe!!! It is a marriage made in heave for eggs in the morning. I too added a little garlic salt, chilled the recipe overnight in a pan. Next morning ct in circles like an english muffin, fry in olive oil, top with an egg and ham or bacon and your favorite salsa. OOOOH.. it's Sooo good!!
