All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2006
I was so looking forward to trying this. I usually make a baked apple butter but after seeing this recipe and reading all the rave reviews I thought I'd found a suitable alternative. I'm sorry but I just didn't care for this apple butter at all. The spices overpowered the flavor of the apples and the color was dark and unappealing. I won't be making this again.

Gravy Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2006
I made this last week and my family thought it was so so. It was a little bland for my taste but overall it isn't a bad recipe. Comfort food for sure! I will try making this again but next time I'm going to add a little pork seasoning to the meat first.

Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2006
I thought the flavor of this marinade was absolutely wonderful! The steaks were tender and delicious and even the kids gobbled it up. For those of you who don't care for the pungent and stronger flavor of balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar makes a milder but equally delicious substitute.

Broccoli Cheese Bites

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2006
This recipe wasn't awful but it wasn't great. I made it twice, once following the recipe exactly and the second time I substituted fresh broccoli in place of the frozen broccoli. The second time around it was crispy and tasty. The frozen broccoli lacks flavor and leaves you with soft blobs of battered broccoli. The fresh broccoli works much much better.

Carrot Cake Muffins with Cinnamon Glaze

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2006
These muffins are awesome! Moist, chock full of flavor, and they turn out great every time I make them. I use the finely shredded coconut and it works perfectly.

Spicy Grilled Shrimp

Excellent! Lots of zip! Works great with lime also, for a different twist when you're up for a change.

Robin's Spicy Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2006
Spicy is right! Wow! This recipe calls for a good beer, some lemonade or iced-tea on the side! These ribs were pretty good but next time I'll cut down on the red pepper flakes. I found the intensity of the heat almost overpowers the other flavors, but all in all good flavor combination and the ribs were really tasty. Only reason I'm holding back one star is for the reason listed above, but for sure this recipe is worth making and I plan to make it again soon. Thanks Ryan!

Calabrese Style Spaghetti

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2006
This is very good. The only thing I did differently was use the butter to saute the garlic before tossing it with the pasta. I prefer a mellower flavor then you get with raw garlic. Adding a little bit of white onion to the saute adds a little sweetness, too. I found this recipe worked well with Parmesan cheese as well.

Tail Burner Firehouse French Fries

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2006
I thought these were great! After reading the other reviews I only made one small change in that I used less butter than called for, and instead of using little pats, I melted in first, tossed the seasonings in with the butter, and drizzled it on top of the fries before baking. It turned out perfectly. Nothing was soggy or greasy, and the fries crisped up beautifully.

Yum! These are great cookies. I can't possible see how the recipe can be tweaked at all. They're perfect just the way they are! Thanks for sharing!

Tortilla Rollups V

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2006
These are really good! I loved them, and they're addictive. I made them using a "tender" jerky, rather then the really dry, chewier jerky and they turned out great! Now that I've tried them, I'd make them for company without hesitation!

Baked Round Steak in Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2006
This recipe is good, but the first time I made it I found it to be a bit lacking in flavor. The second time I added some minced onion and fried it with the garlic and that seemed to do the trick because now it's perfect!

Maple Coffee

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2006
All in all not bad, but far too rich and sweet for my taste. I think though that this recipe will go over really well with people who like cream and sweeter coffee. My husband thought it was great!

Cajun Appetizer Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2006
These meatballs are just fantastic and such a nice change of pace from the traditional Italian flavor of most meatballs. I've made these tree times so far, changing only the hot sauce. The first time I made them with Franks Red Hot Chili and Lime, which was delicious. The second I used simple Tabasco. This most recent I used Cholula. I think I'll stick with Cholula because it has just the right zip, and you can't beat the subtle tang. I love this recipe and highly recommend it to anyone who's contemplating giving it a try.

Fake Sukiyaki

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2006
This dish is really tasty! Since I didn't have any noodles on hand, I served this alongside some rice and there were no complaints at the table. Next time, I think I'll throw in a little bit of garlic, just to play around with the recipe a bit. It's actually a very versatile recipe and you can add just about anything you'd like, according to personal preference. We really really enjoyed this as is though. Thanks!

Zucchini with Chickpea and Mushroom Stuffing

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
I'm sorry, but I just didn't care for this recipe. I found the cumin overpowering and I didn't care for the chick peas. Might like it better if I reduced the amount of cumin that the recipe calls for. My husband enjoyed it though.

Potatoes in Spicy Peanut and Sesame Paste

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
This dish has zip! It's quite tasty and not intimidating as it looks to prepare. i was able to find most of the ingredients at my local grocery store, although I didn have to hunt around for the curry leaf. I did slightly reduce the quantity of mint leaves however because I thought half a bunch seemed like it might be a lot and as a matter of personal preference, I prefer a more subtle mint flavor anytime I use mint in cooking.

This recipe is fantastic! I made it as a side dish when I was browsing the site looking for something to serve alongside a garlic chicken recipe I found here as well. Wow! Everyone in my family loved it! Thanks for the great recipe!

Victoria's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
I thought this was pretty good. The mayo was a nice twist, as I would normally opt for sour cream. I've made this twice. The first time I followed the recipe exactly as written, the second time I used white vingear in place of the mayo, although I used only 1/4 cup. Vinegar and cucumbers seem to compliment each other perfectly, and with the addition of the salt, pepper and garlic powder, well...it was just yum! I'll be making this recipe again...both ways.
