House Fried Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2007
This was really excellent, and I've made quite a bit of fried rice in my day :-) I didn't have chicken so I doubled the shrimp, and I left out the green pepper and added more celery. It was delicious. I made the rice about an hour before I started the frying, and put it into the freezer on a big plate to cool off. I drizzled it with Sesame oil before serving for a little extra flavor. This made it perfect. Loved this recipe. Thanks!

Long Island Iced Tea

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
These were grrrrrrrr8. I did mix equal parts of all four liquors, to make it easier to make a big batch. I also added a splash of sour mix in too for more froth when shaking. I multipled the whole recipe by 4 and made a pitcher, leaving the cola out. Then as my guests needed on, I used a cocktail shaker and shook the 6 ounces of "tea" mix to 2 ounces of cola with crushed ice, shook and served. I do have a touch of a hangover today :-)

A Simply Perfect Roast Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
I was getting ready to print this recipe for the third year in a row and realized I hadn't reviewed it yet. I've been making turkeys for 30 years now, and this is my favorite go-to recipe. It's easy, doesn't require a lot of fuss, and the turkey comes out fantastic. Perfect for Thanksgiving. I also love keeping a turkey in my freezer, then when we have a big snowfall coming, defrost the night before and make a big ol' turkey dinner.

BUSH'S® Corn and Black Bean Tortilla Cakes

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
This took minutes to prepare and was really delicious. I made a few changes: I added a packet of Salad and Vegetable Seasoning to the bean mixture, and I used corn tortillas instead of flour. The corn tortillas were a little smaller so it made five "cakes" instead of four. I served this with a head of romaine hearts that I slivered thin and tossed with Olive Oil, white wine vinegar, chopped black olives, a few chopped ripe plum tomatoes, and then sprinkled it all with crumbled Queso Fresco cheese. I also used a box of Mexican Rice and sprinkled that with queso fresco cheese, also. This was delicioso! Muy Bien!

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
This recipe is perfect as-is, thanks!!! Why are some users wrapping this dough AROUND a bowl? I think they must be attempting to shape the dough into a bowl before it bakes, instead of a big round loaf that is to be scooped out and made into a bowl -- LOL!

Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2010
Followed the recipe exactly as written, but only used half the marinade for the shrimp. As another cook suggested, I used the other half to pour onto a head of romaine that was cut lengthwise and grilled. Excellent! Thank you! (I only marinated for an hour and it was perfectly seasoned.)

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2010
MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING QUICK COOKING LONG GRAIN RICE OR THE RICE WILL NOT BE COOKED!!!!!!!! If you can't find the QUICK cook rice either, use the regular Long Grain and Wild rice, but cook the rice in the broth with step 1 according to the package instructions.)Wow, great soup! I did as others recommended and softened 1/2 an onion, some celery, carrot and garlic in a little olive oil before step 1. I would definitely make this again, Thank you!

Soft Giant Pretzels

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
I've probably made these 10 times in the past month, they are excellent. I used corn syrup instead of brown sugar, and both regular and fast-acting yeast. They come out great. I've wrapped a 4 inch square around uncooked cheese hot dogs, dropped into the boiling water for a minute, then baked, and they make amazing pretzel cheese dogs. Thank you!
