Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2010
Followed the recipe exactly as written, but only used half the marinade for the shrimp. As another cook suggested, I used the other half to pour onto a head of romaine that was cut lengthwise and grilled. Excellent! Thank you! (I only marinated for an hour and it was perfectly seasoned.)

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
This recipe is perfect as-is, thanks!!! Why are some users wrapping this dough AROUND a bowl? I think they must be attempting to shape the dough into a bowl before it bakes, instead of a big round loaf that is to be scooped out and made into a bowl -- LOL!

Spicy Hot Chicken Legs

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2010
Really tasty. I followed the recipe exactly, but took them out after 2 1/2 hours and baked for about an hour longer on 425. Really good! Also mixed up some more butter/hot sauce mixture to pour on top before serving with blue cheese dressing and celery. Delicious, thanks!!!!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
This is a good pie, 6 apples would have been plenty. I used three varieties of apple for a more complex flavor. Because there were 8 apples piled too high in the plate, the apples weren't cooked as much as they should have been in the time allowed. This is a really good pie; And I've definitely made better.

BUSH'S® Corn and Black Bean Tortilla Cakes

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
This took minutes to prepare and was really delicious. I made a few changes: I added a packet of Salad and Vegetable Seasoning to the bean mixture, and I used corn tortillas instead of flour. The corn tortillas were a little smaller so it made five "cakes" instead of four. I served this with a head of romaine hearts that I slivered thin and tossed with Olive Oil, white wine vinegar, chopped black olives, a few chopped ripe plum tomatoes, and then sprinkled it all with crumbled Queso Fresco cheese. I also used a box of Mexican Rice and sprinkled that with queso fresco cheese, also. This was delicioso! Muy Bien!

Cioppino

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
Really, really good. You do need a reallllllly big pot for this! I made it exactly as is, except without the scallops and water -- I am glad I didn't add the water, because this sauce is deee-licious! My cod fell apart, so next time I will leave it in big hunks instead of small pieces. Thank you for a great recipe.

Foil Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2009
wow, 1 tsp per potato of garlic powder for four potatoes was waaaaay too much. Half would have been plenty. Also too much salt, I'd half that next time too, especially if not using unsalted butter. We added sour cream at the table to cut the saltiness so they were edible. These are not for people who are wanting a crispy skin. I love crispy skin but this was a nice change. Be careful when wrapping the potato that it is sealed very tightly. When you put them into the oven, make sure the folded ends are pointing UP because the butter leaked out all over the bottom of the oven and smoked up the kitchen. I don't know why I didn't expect that. I would make this again, just half the salt and garlic powder, or use fresh garlic and sea salt. Thanks for the great idea, it really made the potato more flavorful.

This tastes EXACTLY like a juicy red delicious apple. Perfect! I've had it with vodka, apple juice and grenadine, but this was much more delicious! I used Canadian Club. Thank you!

A Simply Perfect Roast Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
I was getting ready to print this recipe for the third year in a row and realized I hadn't reviewed it yet. I've been making turkeys for 30 years now, and this is my favorite go-to recipe. It's easy, doesn't require a lot of fuss, and the turkey comes out fantastic. Perfect for Thanksgiving. I also love keeping a turkey in my freezer, then when we have a big snowfall coming, defrost the night before and make a big ol' turkey dinner.

Miss Betty's Super Quick Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2007
really good. I add lots of shredded sharp cheese to zip them up. They aren't going to be my favorite biscuit or roll by any means, but they are a good easy addition to dinner when you need something fast. Thanks!

Long Island Iced Tea

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
These were grrrrrrrr8. I did mix equal parts of all four liquors, to make it easier to make a big batch. I also added a splash of sour mix in too for more froth when shaking. I multipled the whole recipe by 4 and made a pitcher, leaving the cola out. Then as my guests needed on, I used a cocktail shaker and shook the 6 ounces of "tea" mix to 2 ounces of cola with crushed ice, shook and served. I do have a touch of a hangover today :-)

House Fried Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2007
This was really excellent, and I've made quite a bit of fried rice in my day :-) I didn't have chicken so I doubled the shrimp, and I left out the green pepper and added more celery. It was delicious. I made the rice about an hour before I started the frying, and put it into the freezer on a big plate to cool off. I drizzled it with Sesame oil before serving for a little extra flavor. This made it perfect. Loved this recipe. Thanks!

Burnt Butter Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2006
This was just okay, and I had such high hopes :-( I added some green onions for color, but the browned butter just didn't add much to it except calories and fat. My mom always fried our rice in butter after she prepared it the usual way, and I prefer that way to this.

This was really delicious!! I used half sour cream and half ranch dressing. I removed the foil after an hour, and I put a mixture of cocktail sauce and ketchup on the top and baked for an additional half hour uncovered. WOW -- The cocktail sauce REALLY gave it a delicious zing. Everyone loved this. Thanks!
